im beginning to regret applying to AEM, that 8% acceptance rate is so daunting.

There don’t seem to be very many CAS applicants on CC this year. Strange.

@bizmajorlar I’m applying to NYU too, but RD. That’s the last school I haven’t done my supplement for, I’m putting it off till cornell decisions lol

CoE applicant passing by…

Hey SSSSSCCCCC, I am CoE applicant as well! Good luck :)

Kazteq, I’m also applying for architecture. While we’re not alone in having to submit portfolios (other AAP majors + some CHE majors have to submit them), and, as you noted, we’re not alone in needing interviews, we seem to be alone in needing both, haha. I guess they really want to make sure they’re choosing the “right” students for their program.

How did you feel about your interview and portfolio? And where did you find that 400 students apply ED for AAP? And what do you mean that you have nowhere else to go for top schools in architecture? Sure, it’s the only Ivy with an accredited undergraduate architecture program, but who said that Ivy League schools are the only good schools? (Although that seems to be a popular mantra.) If it’s location that’s limiting you, Syracuse University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute are two other New York schools with architecture programs that usually rank in the top 20 in DesignIntelligence’s rankings. (And I would take position on the rankings with a grain of salt.)

Sorry for the bombardment of questions. Good luck to you (and everyone else)!

@ForeverFish I’m applying to CAS for physics. I’m glad that there doesn’t seem to be many. Less competition haha

@alexmer I’m applying to CAS for physics as well, but I’m applying RD. Good luck, hope we’re classmates next year, hehe

Yo, I’m a COE applicant also. The sub-major within engineering you put (I put Computer engineering) does not matter for admission right?

Coder90 I don’t think it matters because you are applying to engineering school and then you have two years to choose a major. I think it is just for them to understand what you are mainly interested in and what are your passions etc

My S applied to CAS but we also went to the COE info session. They said that if you left your major blank they evaluate you as if you are Mechanical Engineering, as that’s the most likely major. So it makes sense to express a preference if you are leaning towards something else. You’ll formally apply to a major in your third semester (if you haven’t earlier).

My S applied to CAS CS/Biology.

Is the average Cornell applicant like that of an average CCer (ridiculously high scores, boatload of ECs)?

@Coder90 i chose CS but alsp interested in CE. Wish we both have good luck in CoE admission…

What matters more in admission, ECs, SATs, GPAs or essays? I know they do “holistically” but surely they do have some priorities…

@jerry Thanks you too. I think for admission they try to paint a pretty broad picture of who you are and your past experiences while trying to predict what you may contribute to Cornell in any of its aspects (research, sports, activities, etc). They clearly value grades and courses but I feel the overall story matters most since they piece together various parts of your application to gauge your involvement, passion, character, etc. So, its not so much they look at each individually and prioritize but aim to figure out who you are as a young person interested, in your case, CS.

@coder90 i’m bit worried about the fact that I do not have awards, but I have some activities where I taught computer to young people. Well, I am most confident in my essay as I had extensive research about cornell and imo wrote about myself and my inspiration quite well. I dont think getting less than 700 on my SAT CR matters that much as I heard that cornell adcoms consider other factors more than grades. Well, i and everyone did all i could, so all we can do is pray for good results…

THEY CHANGED THE DATE.
