Hey, I applied to CoE and I got rejected too. My stats were very similiar to yours - minus the research. I’m really disappointed and sad that I didn’t get deferred, but hey- at least it’s a definitive answer, right? I think my advice for prospective applicants is to make your essay as strong as possible. I recently reread my supplement and my commonapp essay, and although they don’t have any grammatical errors, I could’ve done a better job.

[/ul]Reflection[list]

[li] Strengths:I don’t even know
[/li]

[li] What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: I tried to make it look as genuine as I can. In my supplement I wrote about how I cut corners during my summer job and a janitor taught me that I had to think for the customer. As much as I love the hospitality industry, I ironically detest community service and that’s why I did not do any during my four years in high school.
[/li]

[li] Weaknesses:[/li]I’m bold, stubborn, sometimes even stuck up, which may have affected my application.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/li]Lacking of grades… 85.8 GPA is terrible, and so is my SAT since I didn’t get anything over 700. I’m also an asian who is not good at math…

[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/li]I only applied to hospitality programs, and so far i’ve gotten acceptance letters from Purdue, Penn State, and UMASS Amherst. Only applied to four schools though, so not bad.

[li] Your “Big Red” factor - the most unique thing in your application:[/li]I don’t even know… I think my passion for the industry is definitely demonstrated. The fact that a lot of people with better grades than me got rejected shows that not only the admissions does a comprehensive job in viewing student applications, but also shows that they either loved my essays or honored my recs.
