Official Cornell RD Class of 2018

Hey guys - do you know if Cornell allows the department for your specified major to review your application? That’s something I heard, and I wasn’t too sure about it…

@accepted2018 @roxy481 @appplicant You guys have amazing scores! Makes me feel i have no chance at getting in. My stats are: 2100 SAT, 41/42 (IB grade points), Top 1% of my class, No SAT2 (i now wish i had taken it). Btw i was deferred from ED1 to RD.

@iloverainbowsyo Sounds like a good idea for CS majors (offered in both, CAS and CoE)

My rationale for applying CAS primary and CoE secondary was that I’d get to study CS either way, but preferably with the flexibility of CAS. I don’t think it’s a big deal. I actually called them up and they said they don’t even look at the second essay or consider it in most cases.

Hey guys - I’ve posted in here before (I think). I received a likely letter for women in engineering but am worried I will still get rejected, as I have recently received two rejections from equally competitive schools. I also haven’t received a copy of my likely letter in the mail. Is there a real possibility I could get rejected?

@snn6396 maybe the physical likely is just taking a bit longer to get to you. I wouldn’t streas too much about it. I’d say you’re good. Are you an international maybe?
@needanap my son applied CAS also and had his interview back in feb. They really hit it off and his interviewer said he thought he was a pefect fit for cornell. Hopefully they take alumni opinions into consideration somewhat.

@aviraldg My thinking exactly.

@debrules
Just because likelies are given mostly to URMs and female engineers doesn’t mean they are given to MOST URMs and female engineers. Really. I don’t understand what is so hard to see about the rarity of likelies. Not getting one just means you’re more like the other 90% (probably more) of accepted students who don’t receive one than the few that do.

@iculater nope! American. From Florida

@snn6396 I still wouldn’t worry. I know It’s really hard not to be nervous, especially when decisions are only a couple of days away. But at least you got an email…maybe they just skipped the snail mail. I’ve never heard of anyone getting a likely and not getting accepted. :smiley: best of luck to you!

Thanks @iculater! You too

Regarding the question of whether listing an alternate choice college is a negative, my son is a 2nd year student, and he listed an alternate.I would not be concerned about that.

@CMA1, did your son get into his primary choice or alternate school? Thanks.

Did everyone receive an email yesterday from Cornell indicating that there would be an email on Thursday with a link to check the decision?

I did.

Yep yep

My son did

Everyone is supposed to have gotten that. Not a big deal guys. 2 more days!

should we…sql it?

You aren’t suggesting we hack into their system, right? @APushed96

@Keepyourshirt
I think we can definitely hack into their system! I have some experience in hacking and we can utilize those skills at this desperate time on the several colleges. :wink: Hahaha jk jk.
