@chendrix. I mean how many students in one class. I hope not hundreds of students take one class at one classroom. the class size @Harvard is about 20. How about @Cornell? Why is GPA so low? Is it very hard to get higher GPA @Cornell?

A) Class size ranges tremendously from major to major, and from introductory to advanced courses. In smaller majors, in advanced courses, you could have as few as 1-5 people. In large engineering introductory courses, you can have 200-400. In intro psych, you can have 1100?
Don’t let Harvard’s misleading statistics fool you. They have their share of large classes as well. All colleges do. For introductory survey courses, having small class sizes is inefficient and not proven to be any better.

B) The GPA isn’t much lower. It is on par with peer schools.

@chendrix. Thank you very much.

Hello everyone! i’m applying ILR and i’m from Oregon. Good luck all!

bummmp.

my cornell interview is next wednesday!!
did anyone already have theirs?

I didn’t get a request for one yet. When did you hand in your application WG?

hmm two days before jan 1?

Good luck on your interview wg90210!
I had my in early December and it went pretty well.
What school are you applying to? I’m a prospective hotelie.

@teamfrangela - I’m pretty sure you have to request an interview if you want one, but I my be wrong. Cornell may contact you for an informal alumni meeting, but it isn’t a formal interview. I wouldn’t worry if you haven’t gotten one yet, unless you are applying to a school that requires one (Hotel and AAP), which means you should request ASAP!

@cline: Hmm I’m really confused! I thought that COrnell only had informal alumni interviews, but my researching abilities aren’t too good. I’m in Human Eco, so I guess it’s not mandatory.

You should be fine then! Hotel and AAP (perhaps only the architecture program? I’m not sure…) are the only schools that REQUIRE interviews - which you have to request. Cornell is still processing all the apps, so I wouldn’t expect an alumni interview for a few weeks at least…I wouldn’t worry at all.

What program are you applying to in HumEc?

another one from oregon!

I got my interview email today, it’s really cool actually. my guy is a really famous author from the north west. nice!

^haha yes!!! go oregonians!
Yeah so far I think we have three on CC for Cornell!
That’s exciting about your interview! Good luck!!!

Does Cornell offer interviews for ILR? If so, does every one get offered an interview or just some people?

@cline: Human Development mostly, but I also like the Nutrition department. What are you applying for? And thanks for the helpful interview related info.

@ED: Well according to Cline, its only for AAP and Hotelies. But, you might get an alum interview, not all applicants get it.

@teamfrangela - Cool! Human Ecology offers so many unique programs! It’s always interesting to see which program/major people are applying to.
Since I am doing hotel school, there is only one major (Hotel Administration). However, within the general hospitality industry I am interested in hotel management, hotel design, event planning, and cruises! :)

@ED - here is the info on interviews:
"Frequently Asked Questions About Admissions
Q: Are interviews required?

A: All students (both freshman and transfers) who apply to the architecture department in the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning or to the School of Hotel Administration are required to have a personal interview. Transfer applicants to the School of Industrial & Labor Relations must also complete a personal interview. Interviews are also recommended, though not required, for students applying to major in fine arts. In architecture or fine arts, you should be prepared to present your artistic ability through the required portfolio as well; and the hotel school is particularly interested in your knowledge of and commitment to the field of hotel administration.

In all other programs, interviews are neither required nor offered. Campus visits are always encouraged, and most students who apply for freshman admission will be contacted by a member of a local Cornell alumni committee in the fall or winter. These informal conversations with alumni are not required and are meant only to allow an additional opportunity for the student to learn more about Cornell—and for Cornell to learn more about the student. (Please note that alumni contacts do not take the place of the required interview for architecture or hotel.)"

I know for sure that interviews for HAS are required. And as is in my case, if there aren’t any interviewers available in your area you have this online sort of interview where you have to answer four questions and this should be submitted I think by feb 1st or 15th.

I applied to CAS.

Oh sounds very interesting Cline! I always thought the hotel school was really cool =]

Hmmm, internationals don’t even get interviews, I believe. Or at least, I don’t really know of anyone who has interviewed here in Singapore.
