anyone know how many applicants Cornell received this year for RD?

Hopefully we’ll get even more apps in this year and drive down that admit rate enough to beat out Penn (last year was 19% vs 17%). Then we’ll finally stop getting this dumb flak about being the “easiest Ivy”. Not that I’m against you 2014ers, just as a current student it’s something I’d like to see.

Seems kind of petty and vindictive…who cares what other people think of Cornell?

Read this info from a thread @ H: "Dont bother with Harvard for undergrad education. My brother is a prof there and says all classes are taought by ta’s. Harvard is publish or perish and that is their focus-- he wouldnt send his own kids there! "

“All classes are taught by TAs” – Is it true? How about Cornell and other IVY schools?
I think TAs are prof.'s assistants. All classes should be taught by prof.s

TAs are not professors assistants. TAs are graduate students trying to get their PhD (most of them so they can teach and be a professor afterwards) who are required to teach classes as part of their financial aid package.

Most classes are split into a lecture and a discussion. Most of your classes will not have their lectures taught by TAs; it’s usually only introductory engineering math and FWSs that have lectures taught by a TA. Discussions, will be taught by a TA. That’s when I consider the “real learning” happens. You have the ability to bounce ideas off of peers and learn from your fellow students, as well as get a more focused lesson from your TA.

While I agree most classes should be taught by professors, don’t discount the TAs. I have had 3 classes so far where I felt the lectures by the professor were useless, and I ended up doing extremely well in the course just by learning from the TA during discussion. They are often younger, peppier, more creative in their teaching approaches and more willing to help out an undergrad

@chendrix, thank you again.
If you could be back to high school, would you like to choose a local college or Cornell?

BearAttack, I’m sure you’re fine with your school constantly being ragged on, but do note that perceived prestige has a significant effect on a lot of elite applicants…CC should be a perfect example of that. Only good can come from getting rid of the “easiest Ivy” tag.

I need to call the admissions office to see if they finally obtained a copy of my supplemental essay soon. Hopefully, it’s enough to get me into the university.

If I could do it again, I would choose Cornell again in a heartbeat.

hello…regarding Penn’s admit rate, Penn supposedly is seeing a 10% increase in applications this year.(more than 25,000 applicants overall.) And the fact that Penn is now filling half of its incoming class with binding ED applicants, that is also pushing down the admit rate. People are saying Penn is expected to have around 15% (or lower) admit rate this year. I really hope Cornell also gets a big boost in applications so that it can come close to the 15% range.

@chendrix, what are you most like Cornell so far?

This thread has kinda gotten lost in the pages.
So…
What are you doing to pass the time until decisions??? :slight_smile: :)

waiting…ugh. i really hate waiting but i’m so anxious to receive an acceptance from Cornell!
