General Comments:
Congrats to everyone who got in! My advice for Cornell A/S (and most colleges in general) is to show interest in the schools you’re applying to. All of these top schools have a ton of applicants, so that extra interest can really help you stand out among other fringe applicants.

@prj
Though your profile was excellent, you are male, orm, no direct hooks, played along to stereotypes. Unfortunate, but this year has been pretty tough, especially since you are applying to cas/engineering.

pr, ivys and MIT, Duke, Stanford, etc are always a crap shoot. Northwestern is a top school and often selected over many other top schools by applicants. you should be proud of your acceptances. yes you will see some who got in with higher and lower scores, gpas, ecs, at all the top schools, whatever, but that makes no difference for you. You should have sent in that ACT 34.
maybe you can call admissions and ask them about their guaranteed transfer program; it is usually in the original decision, but maybe they will take another look.
and Berkeley is also a very respected school. you will see many threads here about people debating between berkeley and cornell - and while they are usually ca residents, it is still a great option for you if you like the pacific rim of the US and the much more temperate weather…
good luck to you

General Comments:

Well, it hasn’t been an easy path, but I guess it finally came to an end. If I have anyone to thank for my success, it would be CC. Thanks to all of you for your advice and help through out the years. I will make sure to stay active to contribute back to the community. Congratulations to everyone who got in. You deserve it! Everyone who got rejected or wait listed, keep your head high and keep moving on.

Hmm…never thought I would get into an Ivy as a 16 year old, but I guess hardwork does pay off. Also, even if I didn’t get accepted into any of my top choices, I wouldn’t have really cared that much since I spent my high school years doing what I love the most outside of school. Anyway, I’m happy.

does anyone know which schools are the “public” colleges? and the ones that are “private”?

The contract colleges are: Human Ecology, Agriculture and Life Sciences, and ILR.
The private colleges are: Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Hotel, and AAP.

Decision: Accepted by College of Arts and Sciences

[] Teacher Recommendations: One was outstanding, the other was pretty solid.
[] Counselor Rec: Again, pretty solid.
[] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: SO BAD! It was a total trainwreck - my interviewer had just graduated, was a total jerk and thought he was god’s gift to women. Also, he unzipped his fleece’s collar to expose this disgusting carpet of chest hair that I kept staring at throughout the interview. Oh, and he pretty much reamed me with questions, like a rapid fire round in Jeopardy or something. Anyways, it was BAD.

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): South Dakota
[] School Type: Very small public school
[] Ethnicity: Pakistani/Irani/Kashmiri
[] Gender: Female
[]Income Bracket: Both my parents are doctors so…
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I guess South Dakota is an URM? My ethnicity is not, however.[/ul]

Reflection:[ul]

[] Strengths: My essays, my well-roundedness, recommendations, class rank, and GPA.
[] Weaknesses: My test scores could have been higher, and my interview was definitely a fail, and my school did not offer very tough classes.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My well-roundedness and being a South Dakota applicant
[] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted - University of Chicago, Boston College Honors Program, University of Minnesota - Twin Cities Honors Program & Presidential Scholarship, Boston University University Scholar and half-tutition off scholarship, Tufts, Brandeis, NYU, William & Mary, Creighton; Wait-listed: Dartmouth, Northwestern U, WashU, UPenn; Rejected - Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Duke, Brown, Columbia. [/ul]

General Comments: I’ll admit I was extremely disheartened by the turn out, as my interviews with all of the Ivies (except Cornell) all went so astounding - each interviewer said they would do their best to get me into their school. Moreover, I thought Cornell would be the last place I would ever go! However, in the end, it came down to me deciding between UChicago and Cornell, and for some reason, Cornell grew on me and now I’m so excited to go! I agreed to be put on the wait-lists for Dartmouth and UPenn, but I’m not getting my hopes up. My Dartmouth interviwer (who loved me!) has already contacted the admissions office, and I never interviwed with UPenn, but we’ll see what happens. For now, I’ve already cashed a deposit for being a part of Cornell’s class of 2015 and I’m pretty excited. GO BIG RED!

no offense but why are the stats mediocre compared to those of other ivies… i mean so many people with less than 2000 get in… maybe its cuz of the state schools?

As I’m going through this thread, I find that there 2200+ SAT scorers are rejects and kids under 2000 seem to be getting more acceptances… So weird. My scores sucked pretty bad too though, as I only took each test in one once, so I can’t judge too much.

Thanks for your input your collegeboundin12! It was also reassuring, as I was beginning to feel a bit disheartened that Cornell was living up to its stereotype of being extremely easy to get into.

Regardless, congratulations to all who gained admission! It is an Ivy League nonetheless, and it is something to be proud of. (:

It’s not extremely easy to get into if it rejects so many of its 2200+ applicants. All that shows is that it’s looking for something other than perfect SAT scores, and possibly that its hard to get into for applicants who don’t demonstrate a good fit at Cornell, regardless of their scores. Schools that are easy to get into would accept all of the higher scorers along with the lower scorers, but the higher scorers wouldn’t necessarily attend the school.

You honestly used the term “extremely easy to get into” when referring to a top 20 college… It is posts like this that make me doubt the sanity of CC.

I used the term “extremely easy to get into” comparatively - I was taking other top 20 schools’ acceptance stats into consideration.

Regardless, I apologize if I offended any of you. As I said in an earlier post, Cornell IS something to be proud of, and I’m sure I’ll be meeting 12302874954327 people way more intelligent that I am when I attend. So, no need to get your panties in a bunch.
