[] State (if domestic applicant): WA
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type:Large Public
[] Ethnicity: 1/2 Filipino, 1/2 Puerto Rican
[] Gender: M
[]Income Bracket:about $40,000

Reflection
[] Strengths:My focus, my essays, and especially my ECs!
[] Weaknesses:My GPA! My SCORES! Also, I was once suspended :open_mouth:
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I have NO idea at this point, but I have a feeling like being multiracial made a little bit of a difference!
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: NOWHERE!

General Comments: The entire process is so tiring but SO worth it! I have wanted this since the end of sophomore year, and I can tell you that if you want it, you will get it. Make the most out of High School, make good friends, have a little fun, and try your hardest! Also, it feels AMAZING NOT TO HAVE TO DO ANYMORE SUPPLEMENTS!!!

Also, a message to everyone who was not accepted: You are the same person now that you were before, and not getting into Dartmouth ED is just a sign that it wasn’t meant to be. You are going to get into somewhere you want to go, and I have faith that you will be successful. Best of luck in the rest of the application process.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): didn’t send in, but it was 2160. 780 M 670 CR (ugh) and 710 W.
ACT: 35: 36M 35W 34R 33S and my essay was an 8 (also ugh)…
SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 Physics, 790 Biology M
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.85 unweighted
AP (place score in parenthesis): US History (5)
Senior Year Course Load: AP Biology, AP Physics, AP Statistics, BC Calculus, World Crises, and Three Worlds Literature (my school doesn’t level english and history classes, but those are considered to be very hard)
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Commended, Massachusetts Association of Mathematics League (14th in state)

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): School newspaper (Editor-in-Chief), Track and Cross Country (I have been captain all through junior year, and was captain for xc senior year.) Boy Scouts (Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow)
Job/Work Experience: Tutor kids in math, lifeguard at local swim club
Volunteer/Community service: I did a bunch for boy scouts, but never actually reported to my school because I was lazy. I think I had like 29 hours reported though
Summer Activities: took Neurobiology at Harvard SSP in summer 2010 (got an A), Health Science course at Tufts in summer 2011 (A-)
Essays: My short essay was amazing. it was about how the night I was told that I was editor in chief this year, Obama announced that OBL was killed. I had to stay up until 4am writing an article about that because we were going to press the next day.
Long essay was okay. It was about how the lessons that I learned while getting my black belt at age 9 affect me today. When I submitted it, I really liked it, but i have since had second thought about it.
Additional essay was about the Tufts class and how I intubated a dummy and learned other medical shenanigans. Basically I talked about how I want to be a doctor. Overall, I thought this one was pretty good.
Teacher Recommendation: Sick. I saw parts of both of them and they were really good.
Counselor Rec: Also amazing. I read the whole thing, and I honestly didn’t think he could say anything better.
Additional Rec: I had the advisor for the school newspaper write me a third rec, which I never saw, but she basically told me what was going to be in it, and it sounded pretty good too. My peer rec was also pretty good.
Interview: Didn’t get one. My mom is friends with one of the interviewers from Dartmouth, and I guess I was assigned one, but they never contacted me. Oh well…

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Being Asian, poor grades
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I think my essay was pretty good, and my SAT I was at least acceptable other than the fact that my reading score :frowning: also, I didn’t study at all for my SAT IIs and managed to mess them up pretty badly
General Comments: I didn’t really expect to get in, but I hoped I would! IB is just starting to hit hard this year and it would have been great just to say that I’d gotten into college already… oh well

[] Summer Activities: working/ soccer practice
[] Essays: risky and hilarious, yet good nonetheless, a guidance counselor (not mine) who has been here for years said it was the best one she’d ever read

[/ul]Reflection:[ul]
[] Strengths: GPA, rank, great recs, very well-rounded
[] Weaknesses: subject tests could have been higher, over-represented state, no research or majorly impressive extracurriculars
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: i prayed every night for the last month. also my essay was very unique and probably made them take a closer look at me, despite my run of the mill stats.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rutgers [/li][/ul]General Comments: be a little risky with your essay; i’m sure after a while they get tired of the same self-aggrandizing, multi-paragraph narratives.

other than that, I’m soooo excited to be going here! (and to be done with the loathsome college app process) haha just ordered some apparel

Looking at everyone’s stats here, I realize how much of a crapshoot this whole admissions game is, so if you got no dice this time, just keep rolling. It’ll all work out :)

Amazing results this year for CC!

Acceptance: 65%
Deferral: 19%
Rejection: 16%

^That is incredible. To those who got rejected, you’ll end up at a fantastic school and remember, the school doesn’t make the person, the person makes the school.

It would be awesome if some more deferred people would post their stats so that we could know where we stand in the deferred applicant pool! pretty please!

Is there a “deferred applicant pool” or are the deferred apps all thrown in with the RD apps and reevaluated together

In “Acing the College Application” by Michele Hernandez it says that the admissions committee goes through all of the RD applications first. Then, sometime in mid-march they revisit the deferred people. Who knows if they still do it that way, but I’m guessing they still probably do. I’m not sure if that’s better or worse than just getting thrown in with the RD applicants…

•Counselor Rec: Really strong, it was from my ex-AP Environmental teacher/ sponsor of the community service club that I’m president of.
•Peer Review- from the most amazing writer/friend/human being I’ve ever met.
•Interview: My interviewer really liked me. I was a bit nervous when we spoke over the phone so the first thing he said when I walked into his office was “Don’t worry it shouldn’t last more than 30-40 minutes.” It lasted an hour an a half. I’m really sociable so he had to slow me down a bit because I just spoke and spoke.

Other
•State: From Miami, they don’t get a lot of South Floridians
•Country: I was born in Colombia and lived there for 10 years
•School Type: A public school, best in the area

Reflection
•Strengths: I guess all of my letters of recommendation were VERY STRONG, including the alumni interview report, peer rec, the 2 teacher recs, and the counselor rec. I also have very unusual extracurriculars that I’m very dedicated to, very strong community service experience, a lot of awards and recognition, and AWESOME essays. Also, my SAT Subject Test score for Biology and my AP scores.
•Weaknesses: ACT testing, class rank, and GPA
•Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’m a very strong candidate when you don’t count GPA and ACT scores, which is a really dumb comment, but it’s true. Everything else in my app was really strong.
General Comments: Dartmouth is still my top choice!
