Official December SAT Math Thread

Several people have been asking about that bacteria question where they give you t= 4 and you have to figure out which equation fits the "r" percent...I tried and tried and just couldnt even figure out really what they were asking. Can anyone explain that problem? I had the test with two math fill ins by the way.

Thanks.

Can anyone explain this one to me! I was so ****ed that I couldn't figure it out. It gave something like if r / t = 2 / 7, what is a possible answer for r + t?

Then the answers were something like

A) 14
B) ...
C) ...
D) ...
E) 32

Did anyone also get an inequalities(or something like it) question? Something like (1) / (2x +1) < 0, then it gave you

I.
II.
III.

(All negative fractions)

Anyone remember this one as well? I had the most trouble with these two problems more than anything.

For that one with r / t = 2 / 7 , I just multiplied 2X2 / 7X2 = 4 / 14, which gave r + t = 18, but that was not one of the answers. So I continued with 4X2 / 14X2 = 2 / 7 . But that gave 38, which was too large.

ahh damn it..

i missed tshirt one then... -1...

on bright side..i did get 60 degrees..

and i did get never for column one...

which is right..never or more than 3?

the answer to the r + t was (C). It was like 27 or 28...something like that

Anyone get the hexagon ratio problem?

It gave a hexagon with all equal sides, and had two triangles drawn in the middle. You had to find the ratio of the area of the big triangle to the little triangle.

it was like
5:1
4:1
3:1
2:1
1:1

what about that one number line one....

----------x----------y------------z
xyz= neg integer

I.all are odd
II. ??
III. yz>0 <---------false for sure..

what was the answer?

you multiplied each by 3

2/7 = 6/21

6+21 = 27

for this one: (1) / (2x +1) < 0

the answer was only the III or answer choice B

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe I just did that. I am sooooo stupid, sadly there goes my 800 on math right there. I actually guessed on that section question with 1 / 2x +1 < 0 and I got that one right.

i put 2:1 for the hex cuz it was 1x^2(sqrt 3)/.5x^2(sqrt 3)

im not really sure if I did it right though

Yea matrixebloated I put 2 to 1 also. I was assigning it values and check what ratio area would be. But based on the figure it didn't look at 2 to 1 but nevertheless i put 2 to 1. Hope its correct..

------x-------y--------z---- question.
if xyz odd negative interger

i put I,II,and III

because

1st possiblility x (negative) y (positive) z (positive)
2nd possibility x (negative) y (negative) z (negative)

I. x < 0
II. yz > 0
III. x,y, and z all odd number

88888888, I made the side of the hexagon x, and I used 30-60-90 triangle to find the height of the smallish triangle...then doubled it to find the total height for the bigger triangle

both had the same base length, x and x, and the bigger one just had twice the height

yea me too . I did 30-60-90. I assigned each side of hexagon 4. Then found the areas of the 2 triangle and divide big by small lol and it came out to 2 to 1. Do you think its right? I HOPE SO!!. Any others?

what was the question Ldu1207?

Guys, for the bacteria one im pretty sure its (1 + r/100)^4 = 2

The original equation was 25(1+r/100)^t right? And it said that t was 4 days, and the population doubled. What I think they wanted you to figure out was that 25 was the original size of the population. Therefore, with t=4, you get the equation 50 = 25(1+r/100)^4 which simplifies to 2 = (1+r/100)^4.

What im scared about is if I made an incorrect assumption in saying that 25 was the original population. In all the the bacterial growth problems I have learned, the number that goes in the spot of the 25 is always the original population.

what about the question

a^2 - b^2 = 4....which of the following is a possible value for (a+b)?

i put 4 for that one btw ^

i took the same one...i put 4x4x7 for the box one...and remember the years one...it was 2017?....and what bout the arithmetic mean one X x...it was only y? right???

i put down only II???? is that right???
