Hey Jking, When you say you got "36,000" financial aid, are referring to the total including loans? Or are you referring to the total amount of gift aid?

I don't think that Colby sends out likely letters...Bates does.

hey Austin,
The financial aid lady at Colby emailed me and said that international students never/rarely get loans in their aid package. I don't know how that works for you though since you mentioned that you are a US Citizen. Atleast as far as Colby is concerned, I think it is better to be an international applicant for aid...I got $42,370 out of the total $43,370 + an additional $2000 every summer. The aid for me might be a bit different because I am a Shelby Davis Scholar as I applied as a UWC(United World Colleges) student. Anyway, ask if you have any questions....hope this helps!

Hey memyselfandi,
Yeah that makes senese since most of the loans are through other organizations/federal loans which are only for US citizens, so I guess the College is forced to give you it all in gift aid. That's a nice amount of aid there, you're basically getting a free-ride!. After appealing for more aid I got about $27,000, plus a bunch of loans. Where are you from?

Tee hee... I know, it's a good deal but considering the fact that my family has no money, I would't have been able to attend any other way! I'm Sarah and I'm from India- We 'met' on the Colby website too...

Has anyone heard anything about the waiting list or how accurate they were this year? I made sure to let them know how badly I wanted to attend, but if I don't hear soon I will have to send in my deposit to Colgate.

Wizard. I just read your post and stopped still. How ridiculous is this... Colgate is my favorite (was?), but then I got rejected. However, I did get into Colby. Too bad we couldn't trade, because I totally would.

Oh, and wizard, would you help me out and tell me why you prefer colby to colgate? it might make me feel better. However, if it would make you feel worse, don't worry about it.

Wizard probably got waitlisted at Colby as they may have "assumed" they were being used as a backup. My D attends Colgate and let them know very strongly that she loved Colgate, and she was waitlisted by less desirable schools. I really feel they want to offer acceptances to those qualified students who will not then reject them. Congrats on Colby as it is a wonderful school and I'm sure you will love it.

I also chose Colby over Colgate. First of all, Colgate is located in even smaller town than Colby. I heard that wealth was flaunted by students on campus and that really bothered me. Overall, although I liked the presonal notes on the letters from admissions office, on a personal contact Colby admissions officers were much nicer to me.
Academically speaking, I really don't think that Colgate is better than Colby or vice versa. However, I do know that Colgate is much more into American studies while Colby embraces the interantional studies.
