[] Gender: female
[] major strength/weakness: weakness-writing score; strength-good ECs [li] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: NO IDEA. but i suppose it's because i really showed them i want to go to NU through the "why northwestern" essay and definitely - LUCK[/li][/ul]Other Factors: none

On a side note, i think the factor "international" isn't that important in my case, or in cases where the country of the student comes from takes up a pretty large % in the NU community. I know quite a few other HK students who got accepted to NU this year, and they all have really good numbers and ECs. But perhaps for other countries as mentioned above, e.g. morocco (just guessing, correct me if i am wrong), then numbers are less important because they contribute to the diversity. That's what i think....

I don't agree with "international" being a favorable factor either. To say so seems to imply "internationals" are not as qualified as the domestic ones; but when I was there, the ones from my hometown almost all had pretty high GPAs and as a group, we definitely did much better than NU's average. It seems that many people don't realize when an international who's not a native speaker scores a 1400 (600V, 800M), it's an incredible score. 600V is not low when you realize its equivalent to an American scoring better than average Frenchmen in their native language exam in France.

totally agree, sam. When english is not your first language, but only a language which you learn at school through lessons; a verbal of score 600 and above is not easy at all. Like for example in the city where I am from, you walk on the street/ get onto the bus - there's almost NO ONE who use english. Even the government is speaking in chinese rather than english nowadays. It makes such a great difference when there are at least some people who use english around you.

I sometimes do wish the adcoms know how hard it is. =P

It'd be interesting to note whether you plan on going to Northwestern next year or not. Of course you don't have to decide yet, but who is pretty sure that Northwestern is their first choice?
