Official Ed Decisions!

kebree,

That artwork is excellent! Don't get yourself down about not getting into Princeton ED, there's always RD. And by the way... the Ivies could use someone as good looking as yourself! Lol...

Kebree hugg I'm sorry. But now you can join our deferred party, and please keep Yale on your list so we have more chance of being together! Love you!

Thanks, zante! looks behind at deflated orange bubble
I was looking at that Echols scholarship at UVa---it certainly looks like a possibility. Hey, I wonder if UVa counts as an orange bubble, too...

Well, I'm out for the day. I'll check and see if anyone gets on AIM, but finals have suddenly become all-important again. M'eh.

holy macaroni!!! if you didn't get in with that artwork I don't stand a chance lol
well...I just hope we all end up at princeton next year, one happy familly sigh of contentment. Best of luck for RD ;)

Kat,goodluckin the RD round.You are a strong applicant at Princeton and Yale,but god forbid you end up at Harvard.. :) Man, I really hoped you get in this round, but the second match is coming up. I 'll be praying for you,so good luck.

Kat, you already know how much I adore you and your many talents. You're going to be successful wherever you're at. That's one of those "duh" things, hehe. I can only hope we'll still be able to be classmates next year, but if not, I know I'll be seeing you or your atwork in galleries around the world. You rock! I ice-cream-cone you :)

still nothing yet... :(

ilcapo

"He said they often take the EC 1's"

EC 1's are interntionally ranked ppl.. like olympic level swimmer.....

well im assuming i was an EC 1?

Decision: Deferred
Stats:
* SAT I: 1550 (750v / 800m)
* SAT II’s: 720 writing / 710 US history / 790 literature
* GPA: 4.65
* Rank: Top 5% of 300 students (school doesn't rank, just decile)

Subjective:

* Essays: 1 good, 1 very good, 1 great
* Teacher Recs: Extremely good
* Counselor Rec: Extremley good (for a new counselor)
* Hook (if any): Filmmaking/reel (won grant and produced short for national PBS, credited production manager/research/cameraman on 2 major feature documentaries (1 on breast cancer, 1 on Chagas, a south american disease), lots of advanced work experience and interships.

Location/Person:

* State or Country: VA
* School Type: Public (VERY competitive)
* Ethnicity: White
* Gender: Male

Other Factors:
* College Board messed up and did not send SATs, complaint resulted in complementary rush report, BUT didn't recieve "2nd Confirmation" some of you mentioned. Was this a postcard similar to the "We recieved your application" note?
* Pres of NHS, Pres of Honor Council (like at many colleges, deals with lying/cheating/stealing), Editor in Chief of School Newspaper, Captain Academic Team, Varsity Tennis, lots of EC activities inc. Humanities GovSchool.
*Asked for financial aid
*1 AP last year (only 1 avaliable), 5 this year (all possible), BUT schools classes are NOTORIOUSLY difficult (took all honors).

Why do you think you got deferred/admitted: Not sure, I'm looking into it. Obviously I'm not at the top of their list of applications but I'm curious as to whether they ever GOT my test scores. Perhaps a bit too much of a focus on film. Not sure if essays were as good as they could have been. Not too many APs (though took all avaliable). Any ideas?

Oye, now for five or so more applications in the next two weeks....
Looking at Columbia, Chicago, Brown, & UVA (I'm a Charlottesvillian)...any comments on those four or suggested additions?

Oh and thanks guys, reading this thread has been surprising, interesting, and comforting.

Joe

[] GPA: not sure, but I think 3.8 or 3.9
[] Rank: school does not rank
[] Other stats: a bunch of AP tests, but I don't know his scores, Nat'l Merit semi-finalist
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: amazing
[] Teacher Recs:didn't see, but one asked to write his rec, so I suspect they were good to great
[] Counselor Rec:didn't know there was such a thing, but it would be good to excellent
[] Hook (if any): recruited athlete -- 25 - 30 hours a week, 51 weeks a year devoted to sport
[/ul]
Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: SoCal
[] School Type: small private
[] Ethnicity: caucasian
[] Gender:male
[/ul]
Other Factors:*

He is a gifted poet, which I suspect provided an interesting contrast to his being a recruited athlete. Not a dumb jock.

Joe, i cannot believe that you were not accepted. The adcom must have been having a bad day or something when they reviewed your application... or perhaps they had already accepted someone with a film grant???? Virginia schools are very competitive (as i observed during a recent trip to UVA) and i would assume that the admissions office would know this and think favorably of your high stats.... strange

Kebree--

I'm so sorry!! I was rooting for you all through yesterday and after seeing your art I'm convinced that some idiot with less than half a brain was the one picked for you and zante. How could they?! I don't have a blue iguana to cheer you up...will a green camel do?

And as a sidenote, when I read your stats: "Kebree's a girl?! Damn. All the good guys are gay, taken, both or girls."

I'M DEFERRED!!! I was so depressed yesterday, but I guess life has to move on... after all, like my sister always says, these are probably blessings in disguise. She predicted that I might meet my future wife in some not-so-popular university... And, of course, knowing that most of us are deferred and not rejected, there's still a second chance.
Kebree, I'm always a big fan of your artwork. If you get Princeton in RD, you deserve it; if you don't, don't worry, you still have your artistic talent which is much more valuable than a place in Princeton...
Btw, I'll put my stats, probably, next week. I don't want to recall what I did during the Pton application process, heh. Good luck everyone!

Dizzymom i am so proud of you and your son! People don't understand but athetlics are VERY hard. people are always liek "i should have just done a sport" it isnt easy like that. ur son is both smart and obviously very talented at his sport. i commend him. congratulations! you must be very relieved. i am glad that your son got in!

go princeton tigers class of 09!

yeah, big congrats to dizzyson! He's obviously worked hard to get in, and it's great he has such supportive parents backing him up. On to Princeton! Away! whoosh

'09!

Congratulations, Dizzymom. I was worried we were going to have to pick you up off the floor. Now we're going to have to pull you down from the ceiling!

Thanks so much, shrek and phil - when this all started, with recruit trips offered to all the Ivies, we were thinking that Dizzy-son was a pretty smart cookie, having juggled very rigorous courseloads and heaploads of homework along with years of dedication to an all-consuming sport with no promise of any kind of payoff.

Then I came to CC and saw what a truly smart kid was made of. Zante, Gracilisae, Enconium, Kebree, LegendofMax and the others -- you all just amaze me. Btw, Kebree, I would love to have the link to see your artwork.

I tried to steel myself to Dizzy-son's eventual deferral, given what I saw here. As it turns out, he was academically at the top of his sport, and I think that certainly was a factor in his acceptance. Long ago we had a pow-wow with the headmaster of his school -- we knew he was capable of the perfect GPA and the 1600 if he gave up his sport; we were counseled against it. The athletic 'hook' appeard a better bet than perfect transcripts or SAT's. Were we just lucky or was it a smart decision? I have no idea. Dizzy-son loves his sport -- his whole life is built around it, so it's not something he 'does' just to put on a resume.

You can't imagine the sacrifice it has required from Dizzy-son individually and from our family at large. We cannot ever take a family trip because of the demands of his sport. Weekends are dedicated to it, as is every spare hour of the day, and then homework has to be somehow managed. The stress is beyond imaginable. Dizzy-husband and I are kind of like a "pit crew", providing whatever food or other creature comforts are needed at regular intervals just to keep the Dizzy-son 'organism' going.

This was S's goal, so we signed on. Personally, I would rather have had my family life and seen him somewhat more relaxed. However, he seems to have inherited the Type A (chasing down the mailman...) genes of his parents. Apples don't seem to fall too far from the trees...
