Decision: Rejected

[] Applied ED? Yes, accepted.
[] number of emory applications from your school/scholar apps Only scholar app.
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2030/1300, 700-CW, 580-Math, 730-Writing (I think THAT was the real killer, I should have taken more than once.)
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT II: World History 630? Chemistry 650
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.8
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): At the time 20/600something, 700ish?

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): Texas
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Gigantic public.
[] Ethnicity: Wonder bread.
[] Gender: Female.
[] Income Bracket: Not sure.
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I moved schools, mild eccentricities.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: ECs, essays, teacher recs.
[] Weaknesses: STANDARDIZED TESTS SCORES, should have beaten up my counselor a bit more.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Test scores (they're a listed prerequisite for ES), and then I'm not sure if my counselor did her portion entirely, because she ended up faxing things in about five dys before the DECISION deadline for ED...I'm so glad I didn't get in trouble for that!! D: Ultimately I wasn't planning on it, but I am sad because that's a lottttt of money. Hopefully I can get a chunk of that endowment through future scholarships.
[/ul]General Comments: Dude, you accepted kids scare me! I'm soooo excited to be in the same environment as you cancer-curing geniuses. Good luck second round!! :D

cellochick: You were admitted ED with a 580 in math? You must have had amazing essays and EC's....Congrats on that!

Second round has actually already passed. Nobody bothered making a Finalist thread, really, but it seems that scores and accomplishments were secondary to essays and character in the Finalist cutoff anyways, since near everybody had around 1550+ SATs (1600 scale of course).

I think after semifinalist cutoffs, they stop worrying about your high school record and about you as a person.

Decision: ACCEPTED (and Semifinalist)

Does anyone know around how many of each award level (half, full tuition, full ride) Emory offers?

Huh??? Wasn't Emory Scholars acceptance long ago? Weren't the finalists chosen in February?

Oh sorry! I meant finalist xD

I think last year all finalists got either one of 25 full-rides or one of 50 full-tuition.

So how many recommendations do I need totally if I'm applying to admission and Emory Scholars Program?
2 from counselors?
1 teacher for admission and another for Scholars???

THIS IS URGENT!!!

For those of you who applied regular decision and applied for the scholars program...did you get your admission notification at the same time you were accepted/rejected to emory scholars ( Mid-Late January)?

Afridi_Ladkhi - If you apply for Scholars & RD, you'll get your admissions decision @ the same time you find out about Scholars.

scarecrowluv - To answer your question: 1 counselor + 1 teacher for Scholars, so 2 total.
If you're not doing the ES program, there is no required teacher recommendation, just the counselor one.

I have a question, if you apply for Emory Scholars as a regular decision applicant, when do you find out if you got accepted into the school?

I think we find out in January. I'm not sure though.

No, if you are an Emory scholar, you find out. if you do not make scholars, you find out about your admission to the University in late March. Hope this clears up the confusion....

So when would an Emory Scholar find out?

Um, as Rodney and others have said. If you make the cut for Emory Scholars, you will find that out in January, and that (obviously) includes your admission decision. If you don't make the cut for Emory Scholars, you find out your admission decision when all other RD candidates do, i.e., late March.

I noticed that the ES semifinalist decisions came out on January 13th last year (2008)...how did you find out it would be the 13th, for those who were chosen, since on the website it only says "late January"? When should we start checking Opus?

If I remember correctly, everyone just sort of found out by obsessively checking OPUS, and for those who were accepted there was a letter indicating such and those who weren't had no letter (although for at least some of those who applied ED and got semi, they sent an email like a day later, but opus never had the official message for them)

But the date changes every year. I think last year's was just relatively early.
