Official Fall 2012 SOM Transfer Thread

I understand that most of us transfer students are pretty anxious to see what other student's credentials look like as far as the transfer pool is concerned so I figured that we should conveniently keep everything in one thread! I've edited a larger template from another forum. Here is the format:

2200 sat
33 act
80 GPA
3.7 suny geneseo

They never asked me for high school information nor for my SAT score. I thought the SUNY application was very very simple? I don’t think I even had to include extracurricular activities. I wonder if the absence of that information is going to hurt my application :/

Anyway,

College GPA: 3.97 from Northern VA Comm. College
Credits Completed: 72
Courses Completed:

-All basic Gen Education classes needed for an AS; -Micro/Macro, -ACC 211 & 212, -Intro to Business, -Business Law, -Accounting for Governmental/Non-Profit Organizations, -Vector Calculus, -two history classes, -World Literature, -two science classes.

-Transfer credit for Statistics, AP Calculus BC, Psychology, English Comp 111

I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to worry you. You’ve done everything you were supposed to on your application and from the looks of it, at least in my opinion, your record looks perfect for them! Some people chose to fill out the Common App and I just decided to send in extra materials because I felt as though my course selection and load was less than perfect for SOM (unlike yours!). Again, everything looks great on your end.

aww thanks for that. It does make me feel better, but my eyes are still shut tight and fingers still crossed until I get that email hehe. Let us know how you do when you hear back from them.

So it looks as if I’ve gotten in! I hope you did as well!

Got in, my friend! =D

I knew you would! See you at orientation!

im still waiting… with 3.87 Gpa from cuny.

I’m still anxiously waiting like a nervous wreck, sigh… :(

I don’t have many extracurriculars and honors either…

@arthos & @toocollege2010, when did you guys submit your applications? because mine was around middle of january and i still didn’t receive a response yet… :(

Believe it or not, I paid and submitted my application at the beginning of January, however, I did not have my transcripts on file until early march and I also sent a bunch of supplementary material around that time.

By the way, have you tried logging to pay your deposit here? https://secure.binghamton.edu/newadmit/loginform.jsp</a>

If you can log in using your BU Brain username and password, supposedly that means you have gotten in. It’s important to note that if you can’t log in, that does not mean you’ve been denied.

yeah… i tried logging in, hopefully i’ll get in and join you guys!

A simple clarification:
The ability to log in to a BU Brain account does NOT indicate admission UNLESS it offers the option to “Pay Your Deposit”, too.

To clarify what I was trying to say, you can only pay your deposit through the link I provided using the same info you use for BU Brain.

Got the acceptance packet in the mail today! Yea. If you can pay your deposit, you’re in.

Did anyone hear back from Bing yet?

Overall GPA: 3.47
2.67, 3.60, 3.94 respectively

I’ve only applied to 2 schools- Boston U SMG and Bing SOM.

I’m a 3rd semester sophomore at St. John’s studying accounting. STJ is way too expensive and I can no longer afford to attend next semester…if I get rejected from both what should I do, should I take a gap year and apply for schools again for Spr 2013?

Please help!

Thank you.

I highly recommend applying to other schools that either admit transfer students on a rolling basis or have deadlines placed further down the road. I also understand that is wouldn’t be the most desirable option on your part, but you could also consider attending your local community college for the next semester and reapply to your top choice schools if you don’t get in this upcoming fall semester.

In regards to taking a gap year, you probably already know this but I’ll just point it out just in case I’m wrong in making that assumption. I’ve heard that the concept of taking a year off is only a good idea so long as you’re are planning on doing something significant during that year. For example, people go abroad, take on full time jobs and, in some cases, learn a trade. Again, you probably shouldn’t limit yourself to those two schools and might benefit from applying around a little bit more.

I obviously can’t say how they are going to make a decision but so long as your essays, extracurricular and/or supplementary materials look good, it’s my opinion that you should be competitive in the process. Below you will find examples of New York schools that admit students on a rolling basis, consider applicants beyond the listed deadlines or have deadlines placed later this year.

I hope that this post was a help to you!

Hey i just got accepted as a sophomore and im still looking for a roommate! Has anyone found a facebook page or anything for Binghamton Transfers for Fall 2012?

-Carly

Thank you so much for your input! Unfortunately community college would not be a viable option for me.
Hmm… I see. So a gap year is definitely not an option either. So I’m stuck with applying to colleges past the deadline. Syracuse really interests me but their deadline is Jan. 1 which was 3 months ago and Whitman is fairly competitive. Fordham is too expensive and the other schools don’t really entice me, although I did get in the SUNY’s for Spr 2012. I probably should’ve went.

Again, thank you so much for giving me feedback as to what I should do at this point. Hopefully I’ll be accepted into somewhere… BU hasn’t even received my college transcript and I sent that out two weeks ago.

Last option- walk in admission for Baruch (their deadline was Feb. 1 I believe) they allow you to bring your transcript and have them review it on the spot.

Whats your take on this?

I really want to attend SOM… but at this point my hopes are giving up.
