Receiving your AA in May will not reduce your chances and your GPA is definitely within the competitive range. I wouldn’t worry about the definition of “junior standing”. After you’re admitted, they’ll assess which course will transfer and then classify your standing.

I applied for transfer during my second year at UCLA; I was already in junior standing by the time GU was reviewing our applications. But when I started GU that fall, I was classified as a (2nd semester) sophomore.

According to last year’s transfer thread, notifications started around mid-to-late May; that’s consistent with when I received my letter. So, relax and stay focused on your studies.

I recommend you call the admissions office to verify they have received your application and before the deadline! Let them know you did not receive confirmation of your application being submitted/received. Also, be sure you have copies of your completed application handy should issues arise!

I had to FAX my SAT scores, well after the application deadline, because GU never received them from ETS.

I don’t mean to bring bad news, but I’m at Georgetown now and admissions said transferring this year is very competitive as not a lot of spots are available

Usually ~200 transfer students enroll each Fall; not a very large number. So, yes, it’s already competitive. I’m very interested to see the stats in the Fall if that number drastically decreases!

Applying for sophomore standing (during your frosh year in college) is very difficult since they’ll use your HS stats too. The majority of my GU cohorts (back in the day) applied during their sophmore year for junior standing. That doesn’t mean you have zero chance; it just means it will be very difficult if you are not “as competitive”.

@ SFS Rules
Thank you. My stats are way below average for the Georgetown admitted applicant - 3.76 GPA and 30 ACT. I suppose I’ll just try transferring as a junior if I don’t get into NYU (which I have no chance at either as a sophomore transfer).

@Rain 202, you GPA isn’t low AT ALL. I applied with 3.71, and haha, you wouldn’t believe my bad my SAT score was. 1260/2400…that’s probably the lowest score Gtown has ever received…so, my situation is MUCH worse than yours… but so what? we got none to lose…just about a month to find out…Think positively :)

@SFS I hate to bug you about chances, but could you give me any estimate off the top of you head please. I would really appreciate it!

Basic academic stats:
HS GPA: 92/100
HS Rank: Top 10/Top 3%
College GPA: 4.0
SAT: 1450/2160 (Superscores 1470/2180)

I know you haven’t worked for admissions for 4-5 years now, but it would help ease my mind to know that my stats were decent. I saw plenty of people with similar stats get reject last year, so I am not feeling very confident at all.

@SAT
Based upon your numbers, you are a competitive applicant. Is this your 1st or 2nd year in college? That may affect chances.

Fortunately, depending on where your strengths are, GU admissions is not a purely numbers game. The quality of your essays, ECs, and work experience (if any) will play a major role.

Do you know as a transfer student, how much weight is put on high school records? If the answer is a lot, then it seriously will kill my chance.
