@need2learn Has your DS decided yet between Grand Challenges and Honors? My DD will do GC if she goes to GA Tech. Still waiting on some other schools.
I never got a rejection or waitlist email for honors, are they still sending decisions out?
Hey has any admitted EA international applicant received a package in the mail from Georgia tech? I still haven’t gotten one. Are we not going to get anything from GTech? ):
@awesome kid—On the website, it said HC would have rolling acceptances. I think that’s code for “We’ve sent out offers to our first choice candidates. If they go to other colleges, some slots may free up and we’ll contact our second string folks in April.” Good luck.
At the list of sounding ignorant, what’s HC and GC?
Honors College and Grand Challenges, although I think it’s an Honors Program and not college? I’ve forgotten.
Have any RD admits heard back from GC yet? They said they would start releasing decisions today.
GC received many more applications than in previous years. Last year they received 900 applications (EA & RD) total for 110 spots. This year they received 1100 EA applications. Offers were extended to EA students and 113 students sent in acceptances for their spots. Since the GC dorm only has room for 110 students, it is anticipated that GC will not extend any offers to RD admits. As for being at 113 students, GC expects that some of those students will not enroll at Tech since GC acceptances were sent in before the ivies and financial aid awards were announced. If the number goes below 110 then it is anticipated that they will pull some students off either the waitlist or the RD admits.
GC is a wonderful program and its popularity grows each year. I’ve been told that GC staff were surprised with the number of applicants from the EA group and if my memory is correct I think they got about 1500 applications from EA and RD. If you have been waitlisted, I suggest you contact GC to express your continued interest.
If you are a future applicant interested in GC, then I highly recommend you apply EA to both Tech and GC.
All the Honors offers should be out. They are waiting for offers to be accepted and where offers are turned down they will offer to the next candidate. Also the Honors program Admin told me that Freshmen can apply again to the Honors Program in October of Freshman year since they will have a few slots open realizing they missed good candidates. Generally you take two core courses and three electives for the program. . Next semester one of the electives offered is called Robin Hood. Sounds like fun.
So I got waitlisted for the Honors Program and I just made my deposit two days ago. I got my Honors Program notification the day after depositing. Did my late deposit affect my chances? I was a little surprised that my notification came so late because I thought the Honors Program decisions came out in March.
I’m currently waiting to hear back from the waitlist at Harvard, Williams, and Carnegie Mellon. The Honor Program at Tech is more appealing to me than going to CMU. CMU waitlisted me as a ECE major, but they don’t expect spots to open off the waitlist for ECE so they placed me on the priority waitlist for every other major in CIT. However, I understand that at CIT you declare your major after freshman year, and if I do well, I could still declare ECE. Should I email Tech to show my continued interest for the Honors Program?
@ Korsan My kid also got the WL for Honors Program and we have not deposited. So, maybe the email was independent of anything you did. And, it’s my understanding that kids were notified in March (first choice candidates) for Honors Program. I think now it’s a matter of someone not going to Tech in the Honors Program.
@Skrunch that makes sense. Thanks.
Yes as kids offered Honors turn down their acceptances to GT, slots open up. You can also apply again as a freshman in October since more open up at that time according to the Honors Administrator. My kid just picked an Honors elective course called Robin Hood which he needed as an ethics course. Yes its all about the history of Robin Hood but in the Old English language which makes it tough. Lots of class discussions and it forces kids to contribute to the class discussions.
Has anyone heard of they’re taking folks from wait lists yet for GC and/or HP?
@ccmama120 Rejected GC accepted Honors within 2 days of each other. I just got GC yesterday
I heard GC might be full. Hoping she could sneak in!
Kid got a GT Honors Program offer today. I think there is still shakeout from Waitlist Offers. Don’t give up hope.
My D got her offer and accepted her spot.
oh boy i can’t wait to meet all you honors program people
super excited
@Nebeyu6317 are you a legacy? Did you apply as an in-state?
