Official Georgia Tech Presidential Semifinalist Thread

Here you are welcome to discuss the process of selection, post stats, and ask each other questions. It's more like a discussion thread. Congrats to all those who are semifinalist and I wish you the best of luck throughout the selection process!

Any past scholars can give any info on the interviews?

I too would like to know. Is it relaxed like college interviews or formal like professional interviews?

Does the interview alone decide if you become a finalist or not?

BumpppppppP

Have the notifications is semifinal status gone out? If so, was it by mail, email? At our visit last year we were told January 11 was the day. Thanks!

@parrotdr yes they went out by email on January 8th

Thanks, Soco. Guess my son didn’t make it…oh well! He applied in time with good numbers/extracurriculars, but just got his Ga Tech acceptance via email on January 4th.

Good luck to all you other hopefuls!

All students who applied in time (November 15), should get an e-mail. My S did and unfortunately didn’t make the cut (1410 CR+M, 32 ACT, 3.98 UW GPA), but he’s been accepted to Mechanical Engineering.

Logon to Buzzport for access to the scholarship review.

So, to those who are semifinalists, do you guys have any idea as to what this resume is supposed to compose of? I have basically all my activities on the Common App, as well as a bit of school information, but there isn’t much else that I can fit in on one page…I’m just afraid that my resume is basically just my Common App.

Thats pretty much what mine is too.

How’s the interview process like? What sort of things do they ask?

I just had my interview today and they asked why i wanted to go to GT, what makes me a good leader, why I deserve to be a presidents scholar. Things like that

My interviewers asked about stuff on my resume and then asked a lot of generic questions givin to them on a sheet… like “whats the most difficult decision you’ve ever had?” or “describe a conflict, what did you do and what did you learn?”

February 7 (5:00 p.m. EST)
All Semifinalists notified of their Finalist status. Those selected as Finalists are invited to the annual PS Weekend.

cross your fingers, everyone a priori has 10% chance.

Just realized this is 2013-2014 calendar, I am not sure that means current calendar year, or for calendar year. But I think it is accurate for this year, since Jan 4 and Jan 8 matched reality.

I had three interviewers. They didn’t ask anything about my resume or why I was a good presidential candidate, which I thought was surprising. Instead they asked a bunch of generic questions; some of them were quite hard.
“If you were to die tomorrow what five words would you have written on your tombstone?”
“Describe a conflict you had in the past year and how you overcame it?”
“Tell us about a book that change your perspective on something in life.”
And more questions about instances with failure, people of influence me… ect.

The questions required a lot of thought but the interviewers were nice. My friend was mainly asked about his resume and had a few generic questions. It just kind of depended on which interviewers you got

anybody get anything yet?

Son NOT advancing to finalist… oh well. Got an email from psp@gatech.edu today with the bad news.

Hey everyone! General question about the President’s Scholarship Program. If you get the scholarship, are you required to room with another President’s Scholar? Or can you room with any incoming Freshman?
