**Official** Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Movie Thread(Warning: Spoilers!!!!)

You guys knew this was coming...I was just waiting till a sizeable number of posters on CC had a chance to view this film.

So what do you guys think???

I thought it was a fairly decent movie that had fairly good acting, direction, and screenplay. Some of the action scenes were pretty wicked and I love how Mike Newell made sure that there always something in motion in the movie. It was like a runaway train right from the very beginning!!! I especially enjoyed the dragon and underwater sequences becasue they were shot so wonderfully.

However, I do have my share of qualms about the movie. First of all, where was Ludo Bagman, Winky, and all those other random beasts that Harry and his comrades had to face in their quest? WHAT HAPPENED TO SPEW!!! It is clear that an extra half hour could have made this movie far better. The LOTR trilogy showeed us that 3 hour fantasy films can indeed be very enjoyable for the audience.

Besides the subplots that seeemingly vanished entirely from this movie, there was also a little too much teenage drama. The quirky comments made by Ron were quite amusing but it just got plain annoying when random kids like Neville broke out dancing right in the middle of the Gryffindor Common Room. The Yule Ball was definitely overplayed in this movie and arguably the event itself and the preparations leading to it lasted about 45 minutes. These 45 minutes could have been better alocated to reveal some of the book's many subplots or just to elaborate on the main plot. Some of the quests only lasted for 5 minutes!!!

I was also kind of hoping that the World Cup scene could last longer than 5 minutes. As a big fan of Quidditch, I was hoping to see some high-flying International action but that dream unfortuantely never materialized. All in all, it is definitely a movie worth watching if you are a HP fan, but otherwise, it may be a little too fast-paced for the casual moviegoer.

P.S.: What was up with Moaning Myrte practically "raping" Harry Potter when they were in the hot tub in the Girls Bathroom, while Harry was trying to unearth his Triwizard clue???? Bloody Hell!!!;)

Haha yeah I liked it I guess, but I've read all the books so I knew what was going on (usually). I have a feeling that if you don't know the series too well, you will be lost after the movie.

Bump
Bump
Bump
Bump It Up Baby!!!

Haha, the most hilarious part of the whole movie was when Harry spit up his drink when smiling at Cho. I was sitting there DYING laughing! You could just empathise so much for this insecure geeky adolescant boy.

I really liked GoF. It was more funny and entertaining than the other Potter movies were, probably because it was rated PG-13. Some of the funny scenes were when:1. Snape pulled his sleeves up to hit Harry and Ron, 2. Harry when he spits out his drink when he sees Cho, 3. when the Triwizard Champions have to take pictures and get interviewed by Rita Skeeter, and Rita touching and complimenting Fleur's cheeks and suddenly slapping her, and Rita carelessly rubbing through Cedric's hair.

Another thing I liked about this movie is that many teens can relate to the characters in this one. I thought the Yule Ball scene was very cool and Ron's hand-me-down robe was hilarious. However funny the movie was, it was also very emotionally intense.

I cried in the part where Harry had returned from the graveyard with Cedric's dead body in his arms as Fleur screamed and panic and Cho bawling and simultaneously have the crowd cheering and bellowing,"He made it!" and have the bands playing triumphantly and watching Amos Diggory hug his wife jubilantly, because they were all unaware of the hell Harry had just been through. That scene was just...really intense! When Dumbledore made his speech at the end of the movie, chills ran up my spine, but I didn't cry.

Nick Newell's approach to this film was really cool. It was interesting to watch Newell leave out the Dursleys entirely and have the World Cup scene be like only 5 minutes long. His approach to this movie was interesting...everything was fast-paced and he had cut many scenes, i.e. as Harry flies to retrieve the Golden Egg, we see him with it cheering in the Gryffindor Common Room. Newell made this 2.5 hours film feel like a 1.5 hours film...I wish it was longer!!

I thought Newell should have included Sirius more , but oh well. I thought the movie should have included Rita Skeeter and her being an Animangus.

Although the movie left A TON of things out, I thought that the movie was overall satisfying. Newell and the producers HAD to leave subplots out because of time restraint, and all Potter fans should just accept that. GoF has a little bit of everything, and it'll make you laugh, cry, smile, and swoon ( like when Harry takes off his shirt in the bath ;))

If I had to rate it on a 1-10 scale, 10 being the highest, I would give it a 9. My fav. Potter film.

I loved it, much for the same reasons ls47xx did.

The World Cup was done quite well, especially how it transitioned from the match beginning, to the kids celebrating in the tent, to the Death Eaters' rampage. The sudden shifting of emotional tones between scenes was well done, and it -- and other scenes in the movie that do similarly, such as the scene when Harry returns with Cedric's body -- does an excellent job illustrating the feelings of the teenagers, and capturing the essence of the book.

I agree too much time was spent on the Yule Ball that could've gone elsewhere, and I thought Hermione had been turned into a whiny little girl, but... that was it. I loved it!

OOpes...I said NICK Newell. His name is actually MIKE Newell. Haha, my bad.

I thought while the trio's acting improved, dumbledore's either got worse or they had him break away from Rowlings portrayal of him. From the books I've always got the impression he almost never loses his cool, so I was startled when Harry's name came out of the cup and Dumbledore runs over to him and is nearly screaming his questions.

The scene at the graveyard I didn't like either. I have to admit I never pictured in my mind specifically what type of hair Voldemort had, but I didn't picture him bald. I also don't think Fiennes(spelling?) captured Voldemort's essence very well, he didn't seem evil enough and I pictured him to be more calm, not running around snatching off the death eater's masks. I imagined he would just pace around staring at them while speaking in a low intimadating voice and scare the bejeesus out of them.

Anyway so I do think its the best of the films so far but they messed up some of the critical scenes.

yeah I've never pictured dumbledore or voldemort as very phsyical when it comes to actions. They both have incredible minds and it would make sense that that would be what is so remarkable about them.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

What makes this thread official?

i guess it's official when the poster names it official with two stars on both sides :p

lol, GoF was def a great movie. Might go see it again around Thanksgiving weekend!

i was dissapointed..i left the movie theater feeling really tired.

I thought it was cool, but I also thought that it was sad that so much had to be cut out for time contraints, such as Rita Skeeter being an Animagus, the different creatures in the maze, etc.

this movie was pretty good, but there were things that i didnt like, like dumbledore practically strangling harry when his name came out of the goblet, and the durmstrang people's cartwheels and flips when they came to Hogwarts. i was sitting there like, what the heck?!?!
the neville-yule ball thingy was nice though.
but i thought the beginning was too fast. the scenes were like ten seconds each. my friend, who hadnt read the fourth book, had absolutely no idea what was going on.
but still the movie was funny and the end was sad. i didnt think it was scary, though, like people said. oh btw it made a smash at the box office - 101 million on its first weekend, i think.

yeah according to boxofficemojo (my online bible :)) its estimated at 101. i think that puts it at like 3rd or 4th best weekend all time

spiderman 112
shrek 2 108
???
HP4 101

i think its something like that. I'm fairly certain its the best harry potter movie opening (90 HP1 88 HP2 ?? HP3) but I know HP1 is a tough overall beat with 317mil. but it's very possible as long as it has a nice thanksgiving weekend (which we all know will happen)

sadly i have some resentment towards the HP series as it stunted LOTR's box office totals... notice how the year there was no HP movie to compete with (2003) LOTR ROTK totals soared... oh well a couple billion internationally for a trilogy aint so bad...

Given its total lack of competition and excellent reviews, GoF should exceed the first movie's earnings.

I am also inclined to agree in reference to Dumbledore's and Voldemrt's behaviors. They did seem very physical, and at least Dumbledore's practically strangling Harry did seem very out of character. I've also thought that Madame Maxime seemed quite different from how I had pictured her while reading the book. It was also a bit sad that the lines seemed confined to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Krum, Fleur, and many others hardly ever had lines.

I think that the people making the movie may have been able to do better jobs if they actually read the book like a die hard HP fan does.
First of all....
they didn't get details correctly - Hermione's dress? yes, it clearly states that it is BLUE! NOT PINK! And Sirius in the Fire? his head is supposed to be in the FLAMES! not the EMBERS! Dobby gives Harry the Gillyweed, NOT NEVILLE!!! Since when is Moody being Barty Crouch Jr. foreshadowed with his tongue idiosyncracy?
Not to mention all the relationships that the movie failed to establish, which will catch up to the movie makers later when they make the next movies because those are important relationships! Where was the whole Hermione vs Rita thing? And it wasn't Barty Crouch who tortured the Longbottoms, it was Bellatrix Lestrange... who plays a HUGE part in the 5th book when it comes to relationships with the Longbottoms. Dobby and Winky!?!?! I was looking forward to seeing them! Both play semi-important parts! What happened to Hogsmeade weekends? They were definitely in the book!!!!
Ugh! I wasn't satisfied at all walking out. I understand there are time constraints, but I don't think HP fans would mind sitting through a super long but super accurate and good movie. Or to say the least... they could've made it 2 parts - like the original plan!
