is the 144 thing confirmed?

alohasam,

you're right, no one has even confirmed the 144 or 147 thing. There may be lot's more waitlistees to be accepted until June

Can everyone still check their application status?
Mine doesnt seem to work..... hmmm

Well said, dunster!

I suspect the unnecessary stress is impacting significantly more than the 70 kids/families who have posted on this thread. (I confess to being one of many hundreds of lurkers.)

Consider this: Since the Crimson reported on the waitlist a week ago, there have been more than 66,000 views to this thread alone. As I write, the number of views approaches 95,000, nearly 50% more than the total views on the RD Decisions Thread! And sadly, the 700+ posts contain substantially more questions than answers.

I hate to be a cynic and I am loathe to believe that Harvard would practice arrogance in favor of basic good manners, so I appeal to the Admissions Committee (if youre listening):

PLEASE show some humanity. Provide waitlisted applicants more complete information and updates on the process as it occurs. The candidates and their families deserve no less.

Sparkley,

Rot Ro, I just checked and my son's status is unavailable, maybe the end is near, and probably not in a good way. I'm totally ready for this to be over.

My applicant status still works, but it's been working for a while, and I suspect that it works for most waitlisted applicants.

But why should it work for some and not others? Everyone try it, please, including those admitted.

My son's had been working, I can't remember if I tried it yesterday or not, but it was definately working on Wednesday, oh well, like I said before, if it was meant to be, then it would happen.

mine still works fine

has anyone called harvard and specifically asked about the 144 rumor?

Mine still works. I'm beginning to think that the fact that it works isn't actually a good thing

How come CNI?

I'm surprised that we didn't see any posts from people getting calls yesterday for admittance. I would have thought we'd see a couple. This is all so strange. I don't think my son is completely purged from the system because I asked for the automated email to send us his code again and it did. I know, I'm grasping at straws now. lol

Hi everyone, I just called the admissions office, 9:20 eastern time, and she said the process has been started and is ongoing until the end of June. I told her I had heard rumors about a large number being asked to attend, but she shook that off and reaffirmed strongly that the process if ongoing. She also said that the fact that the status page on the website doesn't work has no bearing on anything.

In the meantime, my son has received paperwork from the university in which he is enrolled. My suggestion to all is to focus on getting your own paperwork done, and if we get a nice surprise by the end of June, then great. If not, I'm sure you will have terrific experiences at the schools you attend.

In the end, it is not where you go to college, but how you take advantage of the opportunities where you are that will determine your future happiness and success. So in the meantime, try to imagine who you want to be and how you'll fulfill your potential.

Every one of you is incredibly talented and you will all, no doubt, enjoy interesting careers, many making important contributions to our society.

Thanks for the update Terry. I'm starting to feel that this is totally overtaking our lives at this point, and I need to move on, but on a good note, my son got his first outside scholarship yesterday for $2500. I know it's not much, but I was thrilled. Now we only have to come up with $49,250 for BC. Yay! (little bit of sarcasm there BC)

I agree that we have to move on. My son is not obsessing on this at all, as a matter of fact. He's very involved with end of high school activities. I'm happy that he's so level-headed.

Access code still works for my D, but as Terry learned, it has no bearing on a decision made.
My D too is not obsessing at all and is already emotionally invested in her college.

Congratulations emmabelle on your son's scholarship.

Terry, Thanks for the update. My son called admissions office Monday of this week to confirm if they received his supplementals sent back in April. Admissions staff couldn't be nicer but told him since adcom reconvened, the staff had no access to his or any of the waitlistees' files as they were in the hands of the adcom. They also wished him good luck and advised the process is ongoing (rolling basis) until June.
As many have posted, it's a wait and see game and, thankfully, it appears our kids are faring better than we parents :-)

As they should be, most kids are "in the moment," even though they might have been initially very disappointed. I really believe, though, that there are infinite possibilities at any of the schools our kids got into. They have to seek them out and get the most out of their educational opportunities.

I agreed 100% with Terry's comments. After sending multiple kids to colleges, I truly believe that their own efforts in the college are going to be more important than where they go to. The waiting list kids here are admitted to top universities in the world. They are going to be fine.

Thank you, Terry. I copied your post and sent it to my son via email. I'm glued to this forum but he's not wrapped up in this at all. I didn't go to an ivy or even a prestigious school for undergrad, but I got lots of opportunities to shine, went on to get a MBA from a good regional school and then a PhD from a top university in my field. I now own a market research firm and am thoroughly enjoying my career. It's what you make of it.
