JohnC613 and Sequoia,
I agree with you both. Learning to handle disappointment and move forward in a positive direction is more reflective of who you are than the institution you call your alma mater, albeit discouraging to have come so close. There 's more than one path leading to ones ultimate destination. Maximizing opportunities along a steady course assures success (grad/med school).
I hope you enjoy this exciting journey in which you are all about to embark!
Best wishes!

Not to give false hope to any of us on th waitlist (I am no longer optimistic), but let's not forget the supposed "inside word" we heard last week (post #553) that their first wave of acceptances was going to be 144 students. That would give them approximately another week to choose 60 or so more, until until they hear yea or nay from the first wave.

LOL, once again, hope springs eternal.

I've been a reader of the waitlist and feel for everyone. I just heard the admissions dean of Yale speak and he was terrific. My son's (and mine) biggest regret was not applying to Yale because this man has a heart. Harvard misled my son after telling him he would be "a great candidate" and "just wait "for the waitlist to be activated. He didn't pursue the Princeton waitlist because of that. This process has reminded me of taking someone off life support (the 3/31 waitlist decision online), slowing watching the agony of losing hope (the actions this month when the waitlist began to move, and people were plucked off it one by one), and then, waiting for the time of death (the rejection letter). I know we're talking about college here, not life or death, but after seeing how Harvard plucked people one by one off the list, it feels like the end is near.

I was told today from the admissions office that all decisons have been made and beginning Friday (tomorrow), you can call the admissions office and they will tell you one of 3 decisions: 1. admit (you would already know) 2. rejection 3. remain on waitlist

If any of you have other kids, I'd be sure to apply to Yale...he was terrific!

was the guy Nick Strohl? He's the man!

I heard from my admissions officer yesterday that I was admitted for class of 2012!! : )
I am an international student(Korea) so I got an e-mail. / no phone calls
There may be others who will be hearing from Harvard a lil bit late like me, so don't give up! Good luck everyone!

p.s. and even if you do not get in.. I'm very sure that all the CCers on this thread will have successful/fun/incredible years at the colleges they are planning to attend!

I quote another CCer "In the end, it is not where you go to college, but how you take advantage of the opportunities"

Kudos sparkley!

Still rootin' for all other waitees!

Congratulations, Sparkley!
I am certain other international waitlisted students will be glad to hear from you, in particular ccer, Themoonofdeath, who has been desperately seeking news.

YEY finally an int'l that got in! that's certainly good news, congrats!!

i wonder if they just started with the int'l wait-listees or if they've finished it all yesterday in one day.. i'm also korean so not much hope here :(

wait, so we can call harvard tomorrow and get our decision?

Everyone just remember one thing:

Harvard rejected Warren buffet

Just think about it.

Also, everyone go to the Harvard decisions thread and look through it. Its true that harvard is not a crap shoot because you do have to have good grades, etc even to apply and think you have a chance. But if you go through the stats of people who got accepted and rejected you'll see that some who were accepted had lower scores, less EC, lower GPA than some who were rejected. So I think at some point it is a "crap shoot.

You all have a great college in your pocket. Now push yourselves away from the table, dust yourselves off, and walk out the doors into the beautiful, dawning day.

And Congratulations Sparkley!

Warren Buffet = THE RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD!!!! WORTH $62,000,000,000!

Still no news, does this mean I should give up hope?

Never give up hope!

Harvard admissions staff said letters were mailed yesterday. They will give decision by phone today, but ONLY TO student (not parent).

Hi MomPhd-thanks for sharing the info--it is the same info I was given on Monday-did you get the feeling of how many students were going to be left on the waitlist? Also, if you don't get a letter would one assume you were left on the list? I know my son will not call---he feels you can never alter fate!

They have released.
They have three possibilities: admitted or rejection (you will get a letter for both of these) or "holding position" which means you're STILL on the waitlist and will not get a letter. Once the first round RSVPs they will go through the remaining people again to fill spots.
I forgot to ask how many were admitted/ waitlisted/ rejected though.

just called H, i'm still in the running... so no letter ahh

good luck to everyone!

Congrats Gadli! Did they tell you how many would be in your status category?
