is having both parents with high school as highest educational level considered a hook?

i have other things going for me, but I was just curious.

Yeah, I think first to attend college is a hook

if my sibling attends our local state college, does that hook "lessen"?

jus curious

technically you are still "first generation" so I doubt it.

ok i dont know if anyone reads this far into these threads, but here are my hooks.

I am founding four clubs, a dont do alchohol/drugs club (im from WI and drinking is a real prob here) a culture club, a debate team and a freshmen help club. i am writing their consitutions

I will be a second degree black belt soon

I ran the Chicago Marathon at 16 yrs 1 wk; i was one of 20 16 year old finishers. (this is prob my main hook)

Im hoping to become the ap state scholar of WI. i know i wont find out about it until im a freshmen in college, but i still want to get it. i will have taken 10 ap exams by the end of my junior year

im president of the scince club, captain of sci olympiad, a gold medalist in forensics (speech) id bet i will be pres of all those clubs im founding. im also probebly going to be elected hosa (health ocupations club) president (next year) i am a NHS member and i hope to be elected president.

I also won a few awards like this ymca teen leadership thing.

The only thing i have a prob with is my sat score and grades. i took a practice sat and its looking like its in the 2000 range, i want to improve this at least to a 2100 before submitting (its harder then it looks)

another prob is that, i was super lazy when i was in my first 2 semesters of school. i took all honors classes, but i got alot of B's. this has trashed my gpa and rank. After the first three semesters though, i got straight A's in all honors classes giving me a weigted gpa of 5/5. i think i can continue getting. straight A's, but i dont know if its too late or not. i think i have a cum gpa of 4.2 (weighted) im ranked 32 of 360, and i doubt its going to change much.

basically what im saying is that i was lazy but became much better, will harvard skip me beacuse im not perfect or will they look over me and think that i have improved and deserve admission. can anyone help me with this? thanks guys

What year are you? A lot of your stuff sounds like "plan to..."

Starting clubs is hard. I'm only an officer in 4 or 5 and of those, only one I started, and things still get really hectic.

well, ive started working on the constitution of 2 of them, and it looks good so far. my principle and guidence counsler are giving support. all i need is the student councils aproval and a advisor (that shouldnt be to difficult) also, i just barely lost out on some in some of those elections to seniors who dominate. i should be able to win next year (i hope!)

I'm half-nigerian, but get this, my first language is Ukrainian! and I live in Alaska...

that is sooooooo cool. I want to meet you, lol

I know, who can resist a black Ukranian? I should be on a vodka commercial

I applied EA. I have the good scholastic crapola/sats that every other applicant has but I guess what sets me apart is that I'm the drum sergeant (head drummer) of the fife and drum corps that has won the Northeastern United States championships for the 3 years that I've been sergeant and I'm the NJ state ancient rudimental snare drum champion. I found out a couple weeks ago that the corps is a community service organization, so I've logged hundreds and hundreds of community service without realizing it haha. I'm also a colonial blacksmith as a summer job. Intended major is history. I'm also the drummer and manager of a rock band that has played charity concerts that have raised almost $10,000 for local organizations and charities. I'm also from a <$30,000/year family. Unique enough to count as hooks?

After the 2004 election campaigns I started a Republican Club and kept active for quite a long while.

Then, when a local union battle broke out between the city municipal employees versus our the City Council, I started an organization called the "Citizens for Enid Tax Payers". We supported the city workers reasonable demands for better wages and higher benifits, but were active against their demands for the establishment of a D.C. based union which would suck Enid (my town's)Tax payer money and use it for causes that did not represent the views of our city. We've spoken in the city council and written editorials for our local newspaper. We've (especially me) have taken a lot of love and a lot of hate from others as this is our city's most controversial issue in a long time (there is even a recall effort against four of our elected officials!).

Recently I've helped organize the Oklahoma State Teenage Republican Convention and have a bunch of other political activities that keep me going strong.

Hooks or not I love what I do.

Don't you guys ever get sick of sitting around and speculating?

obviously not

haha

sorry i asked.

so is running a marathon special at all or am i sunk? i was most likely the youngest one their, and probebly since the min age limit is 16, one of the youngest people ever (to run it.)

didnt u say u were one of the 20 16 year old finishers???

what about westinghouse regional finalist

"didnt u say u were one of the 20 16 year old finishers???"

yeah, but im worried that its not enough of a hook. if it doesnt count as a major hook, im stuck. what do you think? does it really make a difference? im hoping it shows my athletic side and says that im dedicated etc. im thinking that with the boston marathon right there, most of them will be familiar with a marathon.

how important do you think it is? is it president of a club big? or is it won national award big? or even better is it played in national symphony big?

I'm not really sure that it is a hook. At my school at least 50 kids run it each year.
