Official Harvard SCEA 2016 Applicants' Discussion Thread

Whoops, I’m sorry, I forgot. That may have been for a different college. I guess Harvard only lets you put in 1 career interest.

Did anyone else get a letter from collegeboard about the “Siemens Award for Advance Placement”? If so, does that mean that you got the award or are just a candidate? Also, does this warrant an update?

Question - I emailed fileroom@fas.harvard.edu and got a reply from fileroom2@fas.harvard.edu, to which I replied (with a supplementary resume) because it said to reply to “this message.” Are these two emails linked (ie. did they actually ever get my resume?)

@Sebelius - I got that letter on Monday and faxed in the form later that day. Must have been evaluated and then was notified of finalist status Wednesday. Good luck! and it was the best start to break haha.

When do you guys think it is best to send in supplementary material? I want to wait for a few scholarships/competitions, but dont want to wait so long that they have already evaluated my app.

@calgirl considering taking a gap year.
@ sebelius, not gonna get it, taking comp sci and enviro sci since my school got mad at me for taking 6 APs last year. >.< looking back, i shouldn’t have taken apush, and done comp sci instead, and would have taken enviro by myself.

@7yearman
Wait, does that letter mean that we got it? Like we actually get $2000?

Does anyone know when it’ll be too late to update the admissions office? I know the full committee meets on Dec. 1st, but when do the regional committees start eliminating people?

According to “A is for Admission” approximately 25% of Dartmouth applicants got rejected before they got to committee. With Harvard’s regional adcom system I don’t know if that number will be, but I bet it’s higher.

@sebelius - I don’t think it means that you got it. I think it just means that you had the highest number of APs in your state, but it is still possible that someone tied with you. At that point they will see composite scores.

I second @collegeinfo1994, any ideas on that?

@7yearman Haha, ok. That’s nerve-racking… So they look up what you got in the actual AP tests and then compare you… sigh Did they tell you when they notify you if you win it?

I think that they start rejecting people from the very first read, but I’m going to wager that the vast majority of students on CC, especially on this thread are going to make committee. Since we have no idea when in committee we will be reviewed, I think that it is important that we get in all of our updates by the 1st.

Yeah, I got an email Wednesday that I had won.

@collegeinfo, 7yearman: I would send updates as soon as possible. I updated them as soon as I received my awards. Earlier the better I guess…I wouldn’t wait.

I have an update for volunteering (promoted to senior position in a global online volunteering program…haven’t even told Harvard I volunteer with them), but I’m waiting on Coca-cola to see if I’m a semi-finalist or not. Anyone else in the same position(waiting on Coca-cola)?

I doubt I made it past the regional committee, though. Awful ACT score + last-minute supplementary essay. The topic of the essay wasn’t bad, but I’m afraid a metaphor I used doesn’t make much sense to the reader :(

Have you gotten an interview for Cambridge? My friend applied for History of Art, and St. Johns’ contacted her, offering an interview. She’s flying over december 14th for it.

@frenzied- I have gotten called for an interview at Trinity for economics.

Anyone here apply for engineering?

@lifeisbeautiful YES I AM  I’M PROUD, AND BEFORE YOUR POST, VERY VERY LONELY

Is it true that applying for math or science will improve your probability of being received by harvard?

another question, how many AP courses did you take?

(PS:I will apply for Harvard next year, and it seems that the competition is becoming horrible…)

really sherry? applying for math and physics improves your chance? hurray hurray!!!:D
