NYU as a safety? I’ve read about kids who were accepted by Harvard/Yale and rejected by NYU. Perhaps those were just freak incidents, but isn’t NYU a little above being a reliable safety? Just wondering… (I’ll also be applying there, RD, if the Harvard SCEA doesn’t go well)

Hello All! Rising junior here! Lol, I know I’m not a senior yet but I want to say good luck to all, in advance. I’m very excited for this year’s application process for you guys. I can just feel the amazing things that will happen! Just curious, I’ve heard the Common App like “opens” sometime late summer, or is it that essay prompts are released, or something like that? Correct me if I’m wrong. Anyways, who plans on getting started as soon as it’s out?

@poisonivy20 essay prompts are already out. The prompts were the same as last year. The common app opens up on August 1. If the students applying SCEA already have their test scores, grades/transcript, essays, recommendations, etc where they want them to be then they could submit everything that day.

Wow I can’t believe that I will be applying next year! If I got into Harvard that would be amazing, but it’s probably a long shot lol

Applying to like 13 school

I never knew that, but I was just saying in terms of grades and test scores those are the schools I will be pretty competitive at

@tola2015 Are you an AA by any chance? Sorry, just curious by your name here on CC.
Anyone planning to finish or at least get much of it done before school begins?

@PoisonIvy20 Yes (it’s a nickname since no one can pronounce my real name). I already filled mine out; I just have to write supplements and decide who I’m asking for LORs.

@tola2015 Haha so am I. That’s literally my daily struggle.(ppl pronouncing my name) Good luck on Apps!

I’m applying to 20 Common App Schools, 5 UK Schools, and 5 Canadian Schools. I better get accepted to college! Hahaha, anyone else starting/finishing their college lists?

@WooTheDay I’m trying to shorten my lists! I don’t want to write all of these supplementals :(.

Checking the Common App this morning, it looks like they removed the “Describe an extracurricular activity in 250 words or less.” Is this true or am I just missing it?

@tola2015 I’m trying to be optimistic, but I feel as though I might end up taking a few off here and there come fall. Bless the UK and their UCAS. One application, one essay, all 5 universities. Beautiful!

@mouse777956 You’re right. Some colleges incorporated it into their supplements though. I think Harvard does, for instance. The mini activity essay is gone from the Common App portion, though.

And the grind begins…

Is Red Sox fandom a huge thing at Harvard?

Hello.
I am an international student from ethiopia , I am going to apply to harvard with SCEA. I know it isn’t the wisest of choices,but As the saying goes “Go Big or Go Home!!!”.

@bktohelp,

I’m not sure it’s fair to characterize application to Harvard as “unwise.” If you apply, and you understand that your chances at success are slim, even if you have a most impressive application, if you apply to other schools where you have a good chance of acceptance, and you’re willing to let the chips fall where they may, well, there’s no reason not to apply. The golf ball must fall on some blade of grass. Someone’s going to get accepted to Harvard. All things being equal, it probably won’t be you, but it could be.

I’m also applying to Harvard SCEA and I look forward to freaking out with you all over decisions. I’m so obsessed with Harvard/Boston/the East Coast in general (I’m from California!) I know that chances are slim, but you miss all of the shots you don’t take, right? Anyways, I am already counting down the days till admission decisions. Good luck to everyone!! :)

Are the SAT Subject Tests required or optional?

What is the average ACT score range for Harvard?

@notjoe

Why are you quoting me with word “unwise”, i never explicitly said that. On another point, you see admission statistics of harvard, for ethiopians is extremely low(i know it is low elsewhere), So it is reasonably fair for me to ponder over whether to use my only EA on harvard or not.

Besides I wouldn’t claim it is not wise to apply on a regular decision. Harvard admission officers claim that their SCEA, is equally selective as that of their regular admission. So again i am allowed to rank how reasonable it is to apply.to harvard.

Finally, thank you for your words of encouragement, i never knew my chances were slim!!

:D

Good luck if you are applying to harvard ~X(
