Thanks lab845. She's already been accepted to Fordham and Fairfield. I think she could be happy at any of these 4 schools. This CA girl really wants to go to a Catholic school on the East Coast!

ocmom, We live in Socal also, won't say where as d does not even want me posting. She has acceptance already to east coast school. Catholic school is not necessary but east coast is. We are formerly from east coast and we introduced our kids to it's charm many years ago. Both daughters will attend east coast schools. D's stats are very similar to lab845, and she has some great ec's but all good schools are inundated with great prospects. Good luck to you and hope my d handles things as well as lab845.

ocmom and oldhat...Your daughters are very lucky to have moms that care so much for their happiness. (I have one of those, too!) Sometimes we get a vision of our future at certain colleges and then, in a matter of seconds, those dreams are gone. Sad that we don't even have to open the letters to know what they say! Who says size doesn't matter? Anyway...the East Coast is great...your daughters will be happy and thrive wherever they go and their campus communities will be better for having them there. Best wishes, Cali moms and daughters!

You are all so kind and encouraging. I have faith that she will end up at the school that is best for her. As much as I was impressed with HC, the winters are pretty brutal. Baltimore may be a little more mild. All those stairs may be an issue for her too. If she gets rejected by both, that will be a problem. Her stats are pretty good for Loyola though.

I'm listening for that mail man. He should be here in the next hour or two.

Dear Lab845, Just a note, thin letters are not always rejects, D's acceptance came in a thin envelope though I must admit my heart plunged. Thanks for the kudos, you are a great kid!!!

Oldhat, are you saying you got the HC acceptance today?

ocmom,

No, sorry to scare you.....previous acceptance letter from another school was thin. Also, last year I had a d going to college also......but let me know if you get mail as I am at work and cannot check.

Anyone else hear today? Good luck to all.

The mail just came. Nothing from HC. There is an envelope from Loyola though. It's not as big as the other acceptance envelopes, but it's bigger than letter size. It's about 5 X 7. It's not super thick, but has more than one sheet in it.

D won't be home until late tonight!

oc mom, the only thing worse than not getting mail is getting it and not being able to open it. Our d states we cannot open unless we call her and she is unable to get home. Our d leaves on 4-2 for a trip with her grandma and then we can open all. I feel for you and will let you know if and when HC envelope arrives.

Rejected... oh well, it was like my number 4 or 5 school anyways. i think my SAT IIs did it. still never good to get rejected

tcolgate, where are you located? What are your stats?

Accepted! With $20,000 thrown into the pot, too. I will probably not attend, but I am still waiting on two more decisions, so you never know.

im from austin texas
catholic from competative catholic high school
3.5 GPA, 6 AP courses, 1250 SAT, miserable SAT IIs
lots of community service (including 2 week long mission trips to mexico)
summer programs, great essay, fantastic recs
visited the campus, had an interview

Just got the mail. D was waitlisted, which is actually good news. We were prepared for a rejection. The bad news is that she was waitlisted at Loyola, which we thought was a safety!

Good luck to all.

Oldhat, any word?

oc mom, I am responding under d's username as I am at home and not set up here. Anyway, yes, D was accepted. We are very happy. I am sorry to hear about the waitlisting for your d. My older d was waitlisted last year at an elite lac, and got in. I will happily share with you what she did to get off the waitlist if your are interested. P.S. This is oldhat.

I'd be interested Oldhat, I was waitlisted at my 1st choice (BC)

Oldhat/CaliGrl, I would love any advice you may have. I'm not surprised by the HC waitlist, but we were SHOCKED by the Loyola waitlist. I almost wonder if it was a mistake/oversight. It doesn't make any sense. Someone waitlisted by Loyola should be all out rejected by HC. HC is so much more selective.

tothemaxbro and oc mom,
As I'm sure you know, many kids are put on waitlists. You must stand out. My daughter sent a picture fed-x to her adcom. It was a picture we had taken when she visited the school in front of the sign. A month later, again the same picture, now enlarged to 8 x 10 with speech bubbles coming from her head saying all reasons why she had to attend their school. Also, gc called the adcom at least twice to reiterate what a great student she was. She also advised them of year end awards she had received and sent another writing sample, as that was her strength. They were very patient, amused, and receptive. They admitted her and with good money. They told us her picture is framed and hangs in their office as an example of someone who never gave up. She was admitted on 6-17-04. It was the best thing she ever did. She is incredibly happy.

As to not making sense with admissions, I can also attest to that. She had been admitted to UCSD and rejected at lesser schools. It is a heartwrenching process and I am glad caliGrl is my youngest and last to go through this with. Any advice that would help, I am happy to oblige.

Oldhat...CaliGrl's Mom

Any more admits? Would like to hear from you. Is this a #1 choice for any of you? Are you waiting to hear from others. Did not get finaid package, did anyone?

Got my package (If you would call it that) today. I got a $20,000 Scholarship and a Stafford loan, nothing else. Oh well.
