Official Human Ecology Thread

@Kungpaoasian, Based on ED thread you PAM folks have another one:

@ Kemri786

and, yes, I am stalking cc to help pass the time …

@connect1234, I’m sure more are watching who choose not to contribute, but 8 on College Confidential is a ton! I wouldn’t be surprised if admissions was more selective this year than before.

This is the updated list of PAM majors. Removed the spaces from before so you guys can discuss about interests if you want.

@ kungpaoasian (Me)
@BearBear10312
@Connor2019
@Kemri786
@ncurcio6
@Sams16231
@wemadeit15
@wowihatecalculus

@Kungpaoasian, Hard to know because 8 is still a small sample size, but I am a tad surprised that there seem to be more PAM majors posting on cc than any other (even from the larger Cornell colleges). Maybe you all are just the best of the best. :slight_smile:
Also this PAM group seems skewed male, hardly typical of CHE or Cornell as a whole.

@Connect1234, I’ve talked to quite a few from the list and our interests are quite different. The only thing we have in common is our fundamental interest in policy (Foreign policy, education policy, health policy, corporate policy…) I think I finally understand why HumEc is about fit because it seems like some interests correlate with AEM or ILR better.

Everyone on that list is a guy as far as I know. The only person I’m not sure about is @ Kemri786

Does anyone actually know for sure that we’re being compared to other PAM applicants and not just HumEc in general? From my understanding after CAS, it’s the most liberal arts-esque college at Cornell. At least for the ED round, I don’t see why they should necessarily have quotas by major.

@Connor2019 I looked into that after we last talked and found a PDF on their website that says we are not compared to each other. We just need to demonstrate fit with one or more majors.

Here’s the link: http://www.human.cornell.edu/upload/Freshman-App-Tips-2014.pdf

This is the line I interpreted to mean that “While we do not admit students to specific majors in Human Ecology, we expect all applicants to be certain that they are interested in the education, experience,
and goals of the College.”

@Kungpaoasian thanks for the info! Yeah that makes sense.

I wonder how many applicants applied ED to Human Ecology. The yield rate is around 50% and they usually accept 140.

how many of you guys put global and public health sciences as a major?? do you know anyone that is? its their newest major but idk anyone but me (in my school; basically my entire senior class is applying to cornell) who wants to major in global and public health

@anumrah, I have researched into Human Ecology quite a bit, and I found this line on their website:

“While we do not admit students to specific majors in Human Ecology, we expect all applicants to be certain that they are interested in the education, experience, and goals of the College.”

It’s great that you’re interested in that, but
(a) applying for that major won’t help you get into Cornell more than any other major at HumEc
(b) don’t apply to Cornell if you’re not truly interested in a program/major they offer. The admissions committee can easily identify who these people are through their application.

Good luck!

@Kungpaoasian‌ Thanks! I actually really want to go to HumEc and major in public health so i was really excited that cornell was finally offering it as a major since there are already so many schools that do. I have many friends applying to humec but most of them want to major in HBHS so i thought that gphs was unpopular. I was just wondering if anyone else was majoring in it :slight_smile:

@anumrah Cornell has a social media for accepted students, and I’ve seen a few that are doing it. If you’re interested in public health it seems like a great major. I would encourage you to go for it!

Someone asked me for some essay tips, and I came up with a list of four questions that I think the Cornell Supplement should answer:

1) How has what you have done fit with one or more of Cornell’s majors?
2) How will the major allow you to pursue your interests and facilitate your academic growth?
3) How will a Cornell education help in your goals after college?
4) Why Cornell instead of a comparable college?

If you address these four points, I’m sure you’ll have a great essay. Make sure it flows and concludes nicely. My essay addressed all these points, and I think that’s what made it so strong.

It’s been a great 3 months on here! Good luck everyone and have a great 2015!

Goodbye,
Kungpaoasian

Just recieved a very nice handwritten letter from a Cornell HumEc ambassador. Also going to visit again on April 17-18. Hopefully I can meet some of you guys there. :smiley:

@Kungpaoasian Out of curiosity, was it an acceptance letter or a likely letter? If so, congrats!

@CCClassof2019‌
I was admitted during the ED round. It was just a nice letter talking to me about the program I got into, and a student’s experiences in it. :slight_smile:

How many people have been accepted into Human ecology so far?

@lisaol Not sure of the exact number of ED acceptances but there are presently 60 people on the Cornell social media website who are in human ecology. Given that a great portion of admitted students are members on Cornell’s social media website, I would assume that this number is very close to the number admitted.

What is the social media website?@kungpaoasian
