Official IB Exam Discussion Page

Discuss IB exams here but please do not break IB rules..

What are IB rules?

I tried to start one earlier, but it failed miserably. Hopefully this one will do better. :)

What exams is everyone taking? I've taken Chem HL and English HL and still have to take History HL, Biology HL, and German SL.

Chemistry wasn't that bad (options were Fuels&Energy and Environmental Chem). I wrote a lot (~7 1/2 pages) on Paper 1 (prose passage) for English; I take Paper 2 tomorrow.

You are done with your HLs...

I take Paper 2 for English HL tomorrow, as well...what are you Topic 3 Works, warblersrule?
~I wrote 10 pages for the prose passage on Thursday (I write big, lol)
-I really liked the passage, the poem was good as well, but I thought there was a lot more to write about for the prose.

~I take History HL also :)
~I take Environmental Systems SL on Wed. and Thurs. (dropped Chem HL last year sudders)
~Spanish HL on Friday the Thirteenth (not a good sign I am thinking)

My Topic 3 works are Madame Bovary, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, and Heart of Darkness.

What about math, everyone? I took Methods last year, Calc BC this year.

I took Math Studies last year (super easy), Calc BC this year
~My works are A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Sound and the Fury , and The Storyteller

I also took IB Music last year

warblersrule, are you diploma?

Yep. Extended Essay, TOK, and all the other fun...

IB Music?!??!? I would KILL for that class. My Wind Ensemble was a regular class.

I looooooved IB music! The only problem was that it was the first year it was taught so we messed up some of our IA's/EA's, but it turned out ok.

Done with IB English! I dominated Paper 2! :D

I'm off to study for IB History. I have to learn American history (last year) in one night. At least I remember International history.

IB History here as well...6 essays in two days!! I mean you would think that 4 would be enough. What DBQ option do you do?

I wish my school had IB History. I just took Paper 1 for Geography SL... not too bad at all. Paper 2 for Geography SL is tomorrow morning for me... wish me luck, everybody! I'm aiming for a 7, and at the very least, a 6.

Papers 1 and 2 done for history!
Paper 1- I did the DBQ on Russia under Stalin.
Paper 2- I did #1 under wars/revolutions and #12 under single-party states.

I'm cramming for American History (Paper 3) and Biology (Papers 1 & 2) tomorrow.

Good luck, geminihop and powerabe13!

Thanks, warblers. I think I did pretty well on Paper 2 for IB Geography SL. I definitely think that my chances for a 7 are very much alive. Good luck to you for your IB American History Paper 3 and IB Biology Papers 1 and 2 tomorrow!

geminihop, you have a funny schedule.. math studies followed by calc BC?
took methods SL this year, seemed pretty easy although i read part of a question wrong. anyways anyone know the score distribution for past methods SL exams?

Can someone explain to me how the IB system and IB testing work?

Here's the "IB system and testing in a nutshell."

IB requires that a student take 3 SL courses and 3 HL courses (although I think that some fellow students at my school are taking 2 SL and 4 HL... go figure). SL courses are one-year courses, so you take the SL exam the same year (could be either junior or senior year) you take the course (at the end of the same year). HL courses are two-year courses, so you take the HL exam at the end of your second (senior) year. Essentially, the IB program in itself starts with your junior year. Freshman and sophomore years are usually designated as the pre-IB years, as you will enroll in challenging courses, but they are not necessarily part of the actual IB curriculum. IB includes an extended essay, several internal assessments for different courses, CAS (Creativity, Action, Service), and other stuff I have forgot to mention in addition to the challenging IB courses you will take. For an example of an IB schedule of courses, here's mine (note: I will only put IB classes for the sake of convenience and relevance. Also, I will be writing in the present tense):

JUNIOR YEAR:
1) Music Theory SL (I am currently taking this one-year SL course and will take the SL exam towards the end of this school year).
2) Geography SL (I am currently taking this one-year SL course and will take the SL exam towards the end of this school year).
3) English HL (I am currently in my first of two years in this course and will take the HL exam at the end of the next school year).
4) Math HL (I am currently in my first of two years in this course and will take the HL exam at the end of the next school year).
5) Biology HL (I am currently in my first of two years in this course and will take the HL exam at the end of the next school year).

SENIOR YEAR:
1) English HL (I will have studied two year's worth of this HL course and will take the HL exam towards the end of the school year).
2) Math HL (I will have studied two year's worth of this HL course and will take the HL exam towards the end of the school year).
3) Biology HL (I will have studied two year's worth of this HL course and will take the HL exam towards the end of the school year).
4) Spanish SL (I am currently taking this one-year SL course and will take the SL exam towards the end of this school year).

Of course, not all IB candidates' schedules will look the same for several reasons, including the different range of courses offered at certain schools, as well as some freedom on the part of the IB candidate to choose his/her courses. I hope this answers your questions, cannednish.

Oh... now that I think of it, maybe you meant Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3? Well, IB tests typically have different "papers," which can be viewed as sections. From what I know (and it is truly limited), most HL exams have Papers 1, 2 and 3, while most SL exams have only Papers 1 and 2. Anyhow, depending on how your school adminsters the IB exams, some exams are taken as a whole the same day (for example, Papers 1 and 2 for an SL exam), or split into two days (for example, Papers 1 and 2 the first day, and Paper 3 the second day... for an HL exam). I think some IB exams might have only one paper though... like IB Music Theory SL? Oh... I have my own question... what does IB Music Theory SL test?

Papers 1 & 2 done of Biology. I think I got about 32 or so of the 40 MC right. Paper 2 wasn't so bad; I did questions 5 and 6 for section B. History also went well, thank goodness.

You forgot TOK in your schedule, powerabe! It's the most important IB class! (well, not really)

To answer your question, I looked up IB Music. There's only Paper 1, and it lasts 2 1/2 hours.

Last year (while I still cared about my score), I took the following:

SL Economics: 7
SL Physics: 6

This year I have already taken:

HL Comp Sci: i predict a 4/5
HL English: again a 4/5
HL Math: yet again 4/5

I still have to take SL Spanish, in which I'm predicting a 1/2. I'm not kidding. I took the practice test and I got a 2. But none of this really matters, since I don't get any credit for any of these tests, even if i have straight sevens.

I've taken Math HL, History HL, English HL so far... Did anyone else think that Math HL Paper 1 was harder than normal?
