Just wondering if any of the regulars (or those who are just stopping by) are taking IB exams currently. If yes, share the agony :D

yeah, im taking the IB exams.
english HL and Physics SL last week.
this coming week is HL history, HL Math, and AP calc BC.

X X

U

ew don't remind me.

what are you guys taking? I finished up physics and english last week. this week its history and most of math. then ap's start....

This week is going to be the worst one. Taking math and history...I feel bad for the people taking chem since it's on the same day as the History papers!!

What did you guys think of English HL? I thought both papers were pretty sweet. (24 hrs have passed so feel free to discuss)

Don't even start me on AP's...I am so irritated by them right now. I can' take the AP spanish test because I have an IB exam that day..and then my IB Spanish exam is on the Alternate AP Spanish exam...ughh..so they were going to give us an alternate-alternate AP...NOT! AP called on thursday and said they are not doing that...so I have to take AP Spanish..take a 30 min break and continue with IB Spanish...around 5-6 hrs of testing...Ole!

I didn't think English HL was bad at all. I wrote on the prose for paper one and question 3b (Their Eyes Were Watching God and Ceremony). The physics sl was mind numbingly easy (i did advanced mechanics and special relativity options, they don't offer HL at my school).

Seriously I feel sorry for you but check this out. I have HL History paper one on Wednesday morning starting at 6 AM, FOLLOWED BY the AP English Literature and Comp at 9. SAYJVDWYUVFwyf yeah, that day is going to suck. I have to get up at 5 and I will have written so much by 12 my arm will be likely to fall off.

I also wrote on the prose for paper one. I was glad to read a passage full of stuff to talk about. For paper two I did 1b, drama. We read Their Eyes were Watching God in 9th grade! Weird.

Thankfully my testing starts at 12 and will end approximately at 6pm. I feel bad for you...I personally hate getting up early!

me too, my friend, me too...

I did prose for paper 1 too, but a lot of people at my school did the poem though. For paper 2, I did 3b about the physical and mental boundaries for The Grapes of Wrath and Remains of the Day.

This week is going to be really bad for me. I have math Monday, math and anthropology Tuesday, anthropology and history Wednesday, history and chemistry Thursday (!@*!), and chemistry Friday. I'm kinda glad that I wasn't able to take ap calc bc test b/c of scheduling conflicts...otherwise, I'd be sequestered, stressed out, and most likely to fail...

Wow! Good luck to you tj!

Yeah the agony during high school... especially Math HL during that year (2005). It was really horrid - like everyone thought they were all going to get 3s.

for english, i talked about 1984 and Blindness on paper two. it was definitely the better of the two papers for me.
i wrote the first essay on the prose, and i thought my paper wasn't too organized.
but i did have a lot of literary terms and such

As an ex-victim of IB, tenniscraze, do you think it really helped you at Uva?

bah HL math today was annoying. I only finished with like 5 or so minutes to check my answers ( I was getting at least 20 on my practice ones). I answered all of the questions with reasonable certainty, and was confident on all but a couple. My justifications were kind of bs on some of them though... bagh it'll be okay.

paper 2 tommorow! which options are you doing for those of you doing hl math?

I am not doing Math HL (long story as to why but I am starting to like that fact) but from what I heard today people didn't feel very good about it. Good luck on paper 2.

I actually ran of out time...for the first time in my life as a math student. I barely finished the last problem and the last part wanted an exact value but i just gave the freaking decimal from the calc as the woman said to put our pens down. My friend in front of me was crying! Ughh..its an SL...that is my only confort since I know I will have to take math at UVa anyway. I am still shoked that I didnt have time. But the first 10 problems I checked and rechecked and was very careful so I am sure in they are correct. I used to think math is my strongest subject...hahaha...

Jeez, IB seems far harder than AP yet offers no real credit advantage. I guess it does prepare people better for college though.

I am afraid that universities are not very familiar with how rigorous IB is. It's an Europan program after all...some classmates were shocked when tour guides didnt even know about IB when they were visiting colleges. I really think that SL classes deserve college credit..but oh well. One thing I really learned in IB is to write papers and college seems to be all about that..kinda.

yeah, I agree BGjeez. The things you have to do for IB beyond the exams are much more time consuming and in depth than whats covered in their AP counterparts. If you combine these things in with requisites like IB TOK (which, for a lot of people, turns their brain into jello and requires tons of writing about said jello) and the Extended Essay then you have a program that does not get the credit it deserves.

I have heard from a couple colleges that they do look at IB as stronger but the mass majority of them treat them the same or have a stronger connection to AP.

My extended essay took me almost all of my summer before senior year. Thank God I did it at work (I based by EE on what I did as a nasa intern) otherwise I don't know how I would have done it.

and btw, HL math paper 2 ate my soul... literally.

It's very sad to see colleges' treatment of IB and credit...all you said was sad but true.

A friend of mine was a nasa intern this summer. Josh H. Ring a bell?

well, math SL paper 2 wasnt bliss either. After the testing several people who sat around me started praying for a 3..well, that made me feel better..at least I wasnt the only one feeling ****ty. I heard other Time zones were easier but I dont know how true that is...if that makes you feel better, our HLers also felt...umm lets just say not that good about the experience..haha

History tomorrow. What topics have you guys covered/prepared for? I was just Stalinizing for Paper one :P I think my hand will fall off by the time Paper 2 is over.

hahaha. Five of the HL2 students raided our class (HL1) after the exam. One of them had bloodshot eyes, and the rest of them couldn't complete a coherent sentence. My teacher just stared at them and laughed for like 2 minutes (our teacher is the devil), and the rest of us laughed nervously. We have to take that God forsaken test next year... Indeed, this is why we refer to IB as 'AP on steroids"

Actually,

Majority of IB classes in my area get massive credit from colleges: VCU for ex. Most kids in my school that are taking AP classes, only get credit for those offered. I looked into it before starting this dreaded IB program and came to see that IB courses get a fair amount of credit. Well what do i know, im a sophmore IBer. =

.. any advice for next year?
