Semi-finalist! I was so sure I wasn’t getting recognized that I didn’t even check when they released at 3 lol. My research teacher called me and let me know, I couldn’t even fathom. As for advice for future applicants, make sure in the essays that you show your passion, and it has to be real passion too lol. They aren’t necessarily concerned with how much of a genius you are, they want to see your dedication to the field and how well you can think critically.

Wow, I’m a semifinalist! Congrats to everyone else. To those that didn’t make it, I know you guys will be making great scientific discoveries in the years to come, and plus, the experience of doing research is in itself the most important part of this process. So, what category did you guys enter you projects into? What were your projects about? I did a project in the materials science and engineering category. :)

Did anyone else get both the research badge and scientist initiative badge, but no semifinalist??

For all of the badges, there are rank numbers provided. Do you guys think that those numbers are indicative of the order of the semifinalists? As in, rank #1-40 are the ones who have been chosen as finalists? Because I don’t really see why they would have to take two extra weeks to evaluate the semifinalists…I’m sure they already have the finalists picked out, and that they’re just creating some suspense lol

@HanConWas
I received both the initiative badge and research report badge but wasn’t selected as a semifinalist… i think this is probably because i’m an international student :(

choconips, where are you seeing the rank numbers? I don’t see a rank number on my semi-finalist badge…

I had a popup when I logged in, is there any way to show you a screenshot? But also if you click on the badge, the number “rank” appears at the end of the web address lol idk

Okay I see it.

Well, I have 33 so I guess I could let you know on the 23rd…I kind of doubt they would make it so easy to find like that, though. Also, when I pull up other people’s pages, they have 33 as well so idk if it’s unique to mine or if it’s just the code for that particular badge.

(also, for future reference, you can take a screenshot, save it, upload it to ■■■■■■■.com, then link it wherever you want)

I have 33 as well; those numbers probably aren’t significant. But we’re finding out the names of the finalists in less than two weeks! Not long to wait :)

I’m a STS noob, but how do you claim your badge?? They sent me an e-mail and I made an STS account but nothing’s showing up there…

^It can take a couple days to show up. I would wait at least until next Monday before getting worried.

If you are not a semifinalist, is it worth reporting your badges to colleges?

Do the badges carry any weight for college admission?

I got a research report badge and I don’t know if I should report it to colleges or how.

Yeah, I’m wondering if this Scientific Research Report Badge is just a “sorry you didn’t get semifinalist, but your paper wasn’t a failure” badge or if it actually means something. I like Intel’s new badging system, but they don’t seem to reveal their criteria. I will probably put my badge as an update on my midyear reports anyway though.

I received a letter of recognition for being selected as a semifinalist and a booklet of semifinalists from Intel.

hey guys, how can you see your rank? i keep logging in and i dont see any rankings popping up

The rank popups are meaningless. They only indicate what order people claimed their badges in. So number 33 was the 33rd person to claim their badge, etc.

i had a hunch that was it, but thanks for the clarification imareaver!

@chillin

actually, it seems that 33 is the number of the Semifinalist badge itself.
If you look at the other badges, they have numbers such as #31 and #30.

@ collegedad

I meant the rank popup you get the first time you log on, not the number in the URL. Yeah, that number does correspond to a particular badge. But, like, when I logged on I got “Semifinalist Rank #172,” (making up number) where I was the 172nd person to claim my badge.
