Is it worth it for me to retake this test? I’ve asked before and everyone has said no, but I hate how my scores were lowered. I accidentally skipped one in reading that I shouldn’t have (770 w/ 2 incorrect and 1 skip, could’ve been a 780) and because of my 8 on the essay, my writing score dropped 40 points to a 760 (80 mult. choice). I don’t know why my essay was so low, I thought I had written a really good essay. Those two dumb mistakes cost me 50 points, so I could have potentially gotten my dream score of 2380. So should I be satisfied with a 2330 when I was so close to a 2380? Thanks!

@aStryker97 Your score is really good but if you want to retake it, then you have to make that decision. Ask yourself this question: “Did I really do my best? If I retake it, will I do worse?”. If the answers are “no” to both of those questions, then by all means, retake the SAT.

@astryker97 You don’t need to retake that. Colleges won’t care about so insignificant a difference in score.

Can someone help me reconstruct the CR curve, based on the # of questions missed? I thought I got every vocab question right, but apparently got 1 wrong (ughh) for a total of 3 wrong on CR and a 760 CR. If -2 on CR was an 800 (as it typically is), then 1 CR question kept me from a 2400 I have a 2360 overall.

Did you take the Jan 25th test in the USA? If so, that would mean:

67 – 800
66 – ?
65 – (780?)
64 – 770
63 – 760

This would assuage my distress a bit, as that sole vocab question I got wrong would’ve cost me 20 pts (and a 2380) rather than 40 pts and a 2400…

@riffed did you leave any blank?

^ nope, 3 wrong and 64 correct, so raw score of 63 – scaled score of 760.

My kid missed one sentence completion question in CR, and he got 800.

My kid’s scores were as follows:

CR: 800
M: 800
W: 720 (730 from previous sitting)

Would colleges discount his Writing performance?

It depends on the college, but regardless, that score is good enough for any college.

Similar to StevenToCollege… but a much bigger spread for my kid:
M: 770
CR: 660
W:550
How important is it to take again to get W score up? Likely a STEM major…so his M/CR seems pretty good. Comments?

@LCalum depends what schools he’s applying to

@MadSpaceCow @Hawkace Thank you guys for the advice! I’ve always done poorly on the essays, so I think I’m not gonna retake. However on the score report it says I skipped a reading when I know I didn’t (this happened to one of my friends as well, so I’m not completely crazy). It’s too risky to do a score correction because I might have missed that question :P

Hello everyone!

I’m doing some research on SAT score variations and was wondering if anyone who got an 800 on the CR and Math could tell me some simple (non-personal) information from the score reports. If you look on your Online Score Report there is a heading that says “Will Your Score Improve If You Take The SAT Again”:

If you received an 800:

What is the change in score?
What are the percentages of scored higher, scored lower, and scored the same?

Thank you!
