Official January SAT Scores 2014

Sophomore asking, from the results here i see that people are doing very well in math compared to CR and W. Does that mean the math section is easier than the others, or is there a language barrier for the students here? O.o

@arceuz

The main reason that scores are generally far better in Math and even Writing is because those two sections can be studied for very effectively. Practice mainly for math, and for writing just learning grammar rules. CR, aside from vocab, can’t really be studied for very effectively. You can practice sections, but at the end of the day it is just asking what you understood from some random passages that are never really all that similar. If you look up the page at my CR score, it is relatively high but I didn’t study. I’m just inclined towards performing well on that kind of stuff.

Hey guys! I got an 8 on my essay, which was very unexpected because I usually got 11 on practice tests at other test centers. For the prompt about whether progress is a result of struggle I wrote about the French middle class struggle in the French Revolution and Rosa Parks’ 1 yr long bus boycotts in Montgomery, Alabama. I’m so confused what I did wrong, I can post more of what I wrote if it helps. Should I have had 3 examples?

@hopeisbeauty how long was it? did it take up both pages?

@brixx21 yes it took up both pages.

my writing score was 74 so honestly the essay really screwed me over

MAN the curves were so damn harsh…FOR ALL 3

^heck yeah man.

@hopeisbeauty

My kid got 67 on Writing MC with 11 in essay and probably ended up the same Writing score as you.
The Writing MC was what screwed him up. Otherwise, he would have gotten a 2400.

Compared to November, all the curves were pretty much the same except for the writing…
The writing curve was a bit harsh. Can’t complain about math but my friend got 3 wrong and ended up with a 710. I’ll agree that’s also pretty rough.

The curves were not even harsh.

^…?? Which test did you take?

the curves might’ve been harsh, but i thought the test overall was a lot easier than most of the practice tests i took to prepare

^hence why the curves were harsh because the test was easy.

Compared to these curves the test was about average. http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf</a> I got 3 math wrong and got 720 but that’s usually 710

Sigh

CR- 570
M- 680
W- 690 (67 MC and 10 Essay)

CR was much lower than expected. I usually get 700 on practice tests for CR, so the 130 point drop for CR is very strange, even if you factor in test day stress. Math was a bit lower, as I usually get 700-720, but Writing was a bit higher than usual, as I usually get 610-660, and I expected an 8 on the essay, but I got a 10.

I’m taking it again in March.

The Math curve must have been horrible, because I got 5 wrong and got a 680, and that means 6 points off raw score for a 48, which is the lowest curve that a test would usually have. If the curve was at its best, my score would have been 720.

I just got a 780 on a Math practice test, and the one I got wrong I changed from correct to incorrect because I thought 0 was a positive number, so at least there is high potential for me to get an 800 on Math in March. Hopefully I don’t become too nervous on test day.

May exam anyone?

The curves for the US and international versions of the SAT are different, obviously, so that should be taken into account.

@steventocollege Is it possible you can post your son’s essay now that the SAT score result summaries have come out? And congrats on his achievement, you must be very proud of him! Where did he attend SAT tutoring?

So is March SAT going to be harder? And what about June?
