Reflection
Oftentimes my grades slid, and my junior year had my lowest GPA with the highest workload, but I brought it back up senior year first quarter (and am maintaining it second quarter!) with even more APs (they are easier though). My extracurricular/job experiences really made my application

Strengths: Lots of self directed extra-curriculars that I had to go out of my way to do well in, especially the patent I filed, I also think that I am personable and came off as passionate and enthusiastic to my interviewer
Weaknesses: Though my common app essay had a very good topic in my opinion, my writing is kind of dull, and I think I could have been much more poignant. My grades and SAT could have been better
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I had a lot of interesting extracurriculars (biggest thing in my opinions), I also thought I made a good impression to an admissions lady when I visited the school and to my interviewer.

General Comments: I thought my chances going in were about 50/50, I got really nervous as the deadline approached when a lot of my friends (smarter than me) were deferred from Ivy- League colleges, but my efforts paid off!

Intended major(s): Neuroscience, cellular and molecular bio
School Type: Arts and Sciences
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 200+
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):

Reflection

Strengths: I think my ACT score, course work load, interview, and essays the reason why I got accepted.
Weaknesses: GPA score. I was very scared that I wouldn’t get in because my ACT was low compared to JHU’s 3.9 average accepted GPA.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:

General Comments:
I don’t think that you need to have a million ECs. You need to have a few that you are very dedicated to. And you also don’t need a million leadership problems. JHU wants a student who has a passion and uses his/her’s time wisely doing something that’s important to them. Your common app essay is incredibly important because it allows you to present a different aspect of yourself to the application guy; it shows something that can’t shown through your GPA or SAT/ACT scores. Just do what you love and good luck! If you don’t get in, don’t worry about. JHU is becoming more selective every year.

Other

State (if domestic applicant): Puerto Rico (territory)
Country (if international applicant):
Intended major(s): BME
School Type: Private
Ethnicity: Puerto Rican
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: 104,000 but lowered to 30,000 now in 2015
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none

Reflection

Strengths: ACT Score, essays, my ethnicity. My athletic achievements and extracurriculars were really diverse. Also my letter of recommendations were probably really well written.

Weaknesses: SAT II are low, but I had to submit them for BME.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I guess the fact that Im a Puerto Rican female wanting to go into engineering seemed impressive. I have absolutely no idea how i got into BME. My SAT IIs were horrible compared to other applicants who have commented on this forum on their rejection to BME.

General Comments:
I really don’t think people should base themselves on what other applicants have posted. You could have everything they’re looking for, but might have someone just like you and they happen to pick the other person. Just because a university rejects you does not make you any less smarter. I was actually pretty confident about my acceptance, at least for the University. As for BME, I based myself on what other applicants posted and was convinced I was not going to get into the program, but in the end I did. I think my essays helped me a lot. Take advantage of their online resources, like Essays they have liked. It will help you write something that really appeals to them.

Why you think you were accepted: My Counselor and Teachers said it was my Essay.

General Comments: These threads show a very, very small fraction of the application pool. Don’t use these as serious indicators of your chances.

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Congrats on JHU

Hey guys! So i am currently out of the country right now and my parents are the only one at home in the U.S. right now. They are pretty bad at English so they dont know much of what comes in their mails. Is there anyone who can photocopy their acceptances and send it to me so i can show my parents what the letter looks like to see if they have gotten any? Thanks!

If you don’t mind waiting until around 5 pm @Adella I can try to find it

vrhou98 Thank you so much! I’ll wait
