Official June 2012 SAT Math (US)

did u guys get like 10 lines that are on the pentagon, two points per line

For the cd collections one where 3/8 was given away, and 7/8 of the remaining CDs were given away, how did you guys get 5/64 CDs remaining? I got 7/64 :(

wait now I’m switching back again to I and II only:

if NC is 0.6, then isn’t the statement #states>=5 FALSE, because five would not satisfy the requirements? so the statement isn’t ALWAYS true, so to say that it MUST be true is false?

another way to think about it: what if III was “you need at least two more states”? doesn’t that on a number line look like, given NC=0.7:
<-------X--------------->
6 5 4 3 2
but really only #states>=6 satisfies, so why is 2-5 included in the answer range?

edit: yeah my number lines go in reverse

@daishi55

It’s really hard to explain things without showing, so let me start over.

The shape given is a triangle, and in the triangle, 2 shapes make it up. One is a quadrilateral, and the other is a smaller triangle.

In the quadrilateral, they give you 2 90 degree angles and a 120 degree angle, and you can figure out that the other angle is 60 degrees.

Now that you got that, the triangle comprised of the quadrilateral and the smaller triangle is a 30-60-90 triangle.

Now, look at the smaller triangle. You know that one side is 15(given), and is across the 30 degree angle that you just figured out. Use your trigonometry, and the Sin(15degrees)=15/hypotenuse = 30

Now, add that 30 with the 60(given) which makes the side opposite of the 60 degree angle of the triangle comprised of the quadrilateral and triangle a length of 90. Now that you got that, you can use trigonometry to find the opposite side of the large triangle(which is what the question was asking for)

You can either use Tan(30degrees) = x/90, or you can use Tan(60degrees) = 90/x,
both will give you the same answer(about 51.9) which is equal to 30sqrt(3)

I doubt CB would give us different values.

@nbachamp: yeah, I got 10 c:

@daishi again

If NC was .6, you would still need AT LEAST 5 states to compromise 4.15 million acres.

The two key words are “at” and “least”. So even if you needed 7 states, you would still need at least 5 states, even though you are going to have 7.

Basically it is saying the least amount of states to possibly make up is 4.15 million acres is 5 states. Any more is fine, but 5 is the least amount.

Did anyone have a problem with a parabola that had one labeled point (-1,4) and there were two constants present? You were supposed the find one of the possible constants, which was k if I remember correctly.

In short, did anyone have this problem because I really struggled on that one section because I ran out of time for whatever reason. I believe that it could (here is to hoping/praying) be an experimental section. Am I right or wrong?

is the section with the questions experimental? “what is the greatest integer that solves the inequality sqrt3x - 2 < 9”

how much does it cost to decorate the box one

and “Set A is all multiples of 2 and set be is all multiples of 3”, how many numbers are shared from 0 to 6000

is it experimental?

@Squikii

He gave 3/8 away at first. Then he gave 7/8 of the amount he had left away.

Assume he had 64 CDs to start.

Giving away 3/8s of his 64 CDs will leave him with 40/64 CDs remaining. Then if he gives 7/8s of the 40 CDs he has remaining away, he would end up with 5/64 of his CDs.

@rameshwar Yep, that would be experimental.

As much as i want the answer to be I and II… i realized III is true as well :S
By experience how do you think the curve will be? can some one tell me what i might get by getting -1?
what about -2?

^rameshwar - that was experimental

@Lolol1 - thanks, makes a lot of sense

@Squikii: here is the expression for what’s left in the collection:

x - (3/8)x - ((x - (3/8)x)*(7/8)) = 5x/64 = 5/64 if x=1=whole
^~^~^^^~
initial 1st give away 2nd give away

790 by -1, 760 by -2

Probably isn’t going to be a nice curve, as this was very simple.

I’m saying these scores only by looking at a standard raw point conversion chart. You might have better or worse.

WOW -2 is 740?? that looks to low… if i get -2 and they give me a 740 i’m going to be really ****ed… I thought that if you miss only 1 its still a 800…

Sorry, meant 760 :P.

And that depends on the curve. In Oct or Jan, the CR had it so even if you got -3, you would have an 800. It just depends on that curve.

I know for sure this curve wont be really good because i found this test much easier than the may one…

I got something like 5.6 states needed at the minimum, making 5 not enough, so I put I and II. Where did I go wrong with my calculations?

your calculations are fine; your understanding… not so much. It said at LEAST five states.

Does anyone remember if the 30sqrt3 one was C? I don’t remember if I put that or 30sqrt2. I don’t even know if 30sqrt2 was an option.

30sqrt(3) was the correct answer.

30sqrt(2) was an answer choice, but was not correct.
