***official june 2013 sat 1 score thread***

@kc3314
I wasn’t very specific; I got a 1740 in 9th grade and then this spring (I’m a junior) I took that diagnostic test. But I increased my score just by doing school assignments and reading lots of books in my spare time. I also probably added another 100pts just from practicing the math section, because when I took that diagnostic test I literally made mistakes like:

2x+8=12
2x=4
x=1/2

So I just had to practice being very fast and deliberate, as the “difficult” problems weren’t challenging.

@Corsairre Yeah I need to just relax and enjoy my summer! Thanks for the reminder :)

BairnOwl, thank you for posting the link to the page on College Board where they show the pecentile rankings for the OVERALL (composite) score. That was exactly what I was hoping to discover by coming to CC tonight! :*

DS#2 got a composite score of 1920, which isn’t as high as most people on this site :wink: but still pretty good. It’s the 89th percentile, overall.

CR: 660

Math: 600 ← I should sue his stupid high school, which hires winning sports coaches and then sticks them in math classes where they leave the kids to watch videos and do worksheets so they can go coach

Writing: 660

Took the SAT for the first time…got a score of 2220

Math - 780 Dunno what went wrong, was expecting an 800 :(

Reading - 710

Writing - 730 Got a 9 on the essay, could have been better :(

What do you think? Are these scores good enough for MIT, Stanford, Upenn and ivy league schools? Should I consider retaking the test? (I think I could have done better in critical reading and the essay)

@kc3314 & NWskier I think it’s also due to the 2-3 year break in between taking the SAT, right? By then you would’ve learned a lot more stuff, especially for the reading/writing sections. And yeah, let’s both relax ^^ Next year’s gonna be pretty busy, ugh.

Navyagupta, I wouldn’t worry about the math so much, I mean it’s only 20 points away from 800 :stuck_out_tongue: I’d focus more on CR.

My son(sophomore) had his first try of SAT and got 2240 (710R/730W/800M). He probably will target Columbia/Chicago/Penn/Yale in a year. My feeling after reading this board is his score isn’t good enough and probably need to retake it in Junior year. Do most of these schools look at the superscore or all scores?

(ah, first post ever…)

International student… and first time taking the test,

CR-690 (Lowest score I ever had. The last section was dreadful. I knew I ruined everything as soon as I finished it.)
M-780 :frowning:
W-740 w/ 10 essay (…which is also ridiculous, because I rarely got MC wrong while prepping)

2210… such an awkward score…

I’m aiming for an Ivy or just a random school with FA (I seriously have trouble affording the tuition… D: ).

So should I retake the test (and sit through a four-hour flight, considering my acrophobia…)? Any advice? I’m quite desperate… :/

Ok, so I just logged on collegeboard. This is the 2nd time I’ve taken the SAT.
CR: 680 (+ 30 pts)
M: 610 (+ 70p pts) :frowning: :frowning:
W: 690 (+ 50 pts)

Did you guys feel that the curving this time was quite low? The 3 practice tests I took in preparation for the real thing were harder, yet my score was actually much higher :s

760 CR. Expected.
700 Math. ***? I was hoping for 800 :frowning:
800 Writing. This doesn’t even matter…
I had wished for a 2300, but so much for that… Would retake it, but I don’t think there’s really any point of doing so and wasting money. Yeah, whatevs. It’s just a test so I doubt it would help me much in the admissions process as I will applying to mostly liberal arts colleges only.

Cr: 760
M: 760
W: 750 (thought I would have done better:(
Total: 2270
The first time I took it I got 1850, second time 2090…I probably took 10 practice tests and studied every prep book I could find…wanted a 2300 but don’t feel like taking it again…do you think it would be worth taking the act? I took it after the 1850 sat and got a 27…

Bsullivan - I think your score of 2270 is really great already! Yeah, I don’t think it’s worth retaking for 30 points. ACT is a good idea, since most people consider it to be easier (time is challenging to manage though). However, with your SAT score, taking the ACT would only help you if you get AT LEAST a 34. That is something to take into account.

Oh, and tigerdad - to answer your question, most ivies do in fact look at superscores. However, some do require you to send in all your scores.

Remember that the SAT is only a small part of the college application. That is why colleges look at superscores. You and your son should think about whether or not you want to devote more time trying to raise an already decent score instead of focusing on other things to boost his application (but then again, as a sophomore, he’s got time).

WHOAA, compared to everyone elses scores I feel like I did horrible lol considering where I’m planning on applying I think my scores are good :slight_smile: this was my first try so I might retake depending on my definite college list.
Composite: 1910
CR: 680
M: 610
W: 620
essay: 8
any recommendations on what to do to up my math score??

Practice practice!! I did almost all the math sections in the blue book, but used “outsmarting the sat” to study concepts and tricks as well…the more you practice, you will start to notice that the problems are pretty similar between tests, you just have to learn how to solve them…I also used princeton review and Barron’s after the blue book!

@PrincessPea
Yeah, I got an 8 essay with 80 on mc for a 790 writing. Probably a different curve when your daughter took it?

how do you find out the state percentage? It says Nationalal average on the college board. Does the detailed one we get next week tell you at state average?

Composite: 1980 (first time)
Math: 720
Writing: 650
Reading: 580 :frowning:
Essay: 8

I thought my score was okay until I started going through this thread. Now I just feel really bad about my score. Any ideas how I can get that reading score up?

DS (just finished grade 11) took it for the first time with minimal preparation (we’re from Canada and just discovered this amazing site) other than 1 diagnostic test (1750) and 1 follow up home test (1900) using MgGraw Hill:

2040
CR 730
M 730
W 580
MC 58 & Essay 8

I have read a great deal on this site and we are now armed with several resource books (CB Blue Book, Princeton, Direct Hits 1 & 2) and will also purchase Essential 500 and Sparknotes. DS is off for the summer and will have the time to prepare fully for October 5th.

2210 FINALLY!! 790 Math (I know I got one wrong) 750 Writing(Didn’t expect to do this well) 670 CR(Was expecting to do better but can’t complain

@prowlings, thank you. I think he should retake in a year or so. You are also absolutely right about SAT just being a small part of the “ingredients” colleges look at.
