***official june 2013 sat 1 score thread***

From my sophomore and junior PSATs i was expecting a 1600-1700 but i made it to 1800 composite! 560 reading, 620 math, 620 writing. i’m a tad disappointed for the reading but whatever im pretty happy haha

Not entirely content with my scores. I know I can do better than what I got. I was expecting at least an 1800 (scored a 1970 on the online practice test and an essay of 10), but, unfortunately, only scored a 1760. Hoping that my ACT scores are better! If not, I’m going to have to retake the SAT in the Fall. Wanting to get into UGA, but not sure I can with these scores. =\ I have a weighted GPA of 4.3 (unweighted-4.0) and will graduate with 4 or 5 honors. I know I am more intelligent than my scores are showing. Any suggestions on raising math score? That is my main problem, apparently!

Critical Reading 610 83%
Math 500 45%
Writing 650 90%
Multiple Choice 71 (score range: 20-80)
Essay 6

General guideline for all those who want to improve

If you are below 1800-1900, take a class. You have some fundamental errors regarding the strategy of test-taking and there are tricks that you can laern that will significantly improve your score. Remember that SAT isn’t exactly a measure of intelligence but more of common-sense, ability to allocate time effectively, and test-take.

If you are above 1800-1900, then don’t take a class. The only advice I can give you is to work on practice tests over and over. You are very lucky to be taking the SAT because while the ACT only releases like 3 practice tests in the red book, SAT is generous enough to release like 11 practice tests in one book. Just work on all those and you’ll get better. One note though, I think the actual test is somewhat harder than the practice tests.

Also practice memorizing vocab.

Also a lot of people have problems with math. Math is, as you’ve already noticed, mainly problem solving. What they teach you in school is not problem solving – teachers will only teach you cold, hard math like 6x+2=8 whereas SAT math is like 6 groups + 2 people = 8 blah blah blah and make it into a word question.

If you continue to practice word problems, you will begin to familiarize yourself with the method of solving them. I was personally in a middle school club called MathCounts and they have a lot of challenging problems that prepared me for ACT and SAT math. There’s also organizations called AMC and other stuff that have plenty of practice questions. Go out there and find practice material! It will help you!

At what point will your SAT score not help you any more? I’ve heard some say 2100, others 2250, while some other insist that every point counts. Above a certain point, don’t they just see you’re qualified in this area and move to other parts of your application?

I think that almost everyone considers 2300+ sufficient. Obviously 2400 is glamorous but as far as being worth a retake when 1 stupid mistake will kill your score 2300 is the cut off for absolutely good scores.

760 CR
750 Math
790 Writing

2300 overall
Second time taking, if you include freshman year’s 2010 lol…hope it’s good enough for Berkeley :/

O.o
Aah well ignoring the above post (If it has not been deleted)
Don’t know what to say about my scores. Wanted to get 21+
Maths: 730 :frowning: ( expected way more)
CR: 650
Writing: 670
Composite: 2050
It is good enough for all universities but one. This was my first and only try. :/

This is so stupid, they won’t let me PM people back until I reached 15 posts -.- seriously collegeconfidential…

Anyway, to NWskier: Sorry I don’t really understand what ‘reviewing’ is. I got a 2010 beginning of freshman year, took it again at end of junior year and got around a 300 pt increase.

@Corsairre

Sorry I wasn’t very clear in my message. It turns out if you have an increase of 350 pts. or more between two test dates they automatically flag your scores and they do an “investigation” to see if you were cheating. Anyways it sounds like you missed the cutoff haha, luckily for you you don’t have to wait another 2-4 weeks for your scores ><.

I was just checking in to see what your score increase was. Also congrats on the 2300! thats awesome

I screamed when I saw my scores.
790- Bio M
750- Math 2
670- US History

I don’t really care about the US history score because I only took it in case one of the others went very badly. I also omitted 8 of the 50 math questions but still managed a 750. I was expecting about 710/700/600. So I was very happy.

Ooh I get it now. That happened to you, huh :frowning: sucks. And thanks! Do you mind if I ask you what your scores were?

Just a general message to everyone out there:
About 2200+ is good for schools like UPenn, Duke, etc.
About 2300+ is good for schools like HYPS, MIT, etc.
This is also affected by other factors including race, international, quality of EC’s, etc.

2270 which breaks 710CR/760M/800W

I really only took it to increase my math score (750->760 …ok), but the writing is definitely welcomed. Would I be fine for HYPS with a 2330 superscore?

2330 is absolutely fine, like psmusic18 said anything above 2300 is fine for those schools. After that though they’d look at GPA/ECs.

Composite: 2060
Math: 800
Writing: 710 (10 E)
Reading: 550

couldn’t seem to increase my reading score for the life of me

This was my first attempt, I got 1810.
640 cr
520 m
650 w (9 essay, 63 mc)
I will definitely be retaking it in the fall.

@Corsairre

I think in 9th grade I got a 1740 but i had done an all nighter before that so I could’ve done a lot better.

I did a diagnostic test and got 2140 (780CR680M680W) w/o studying, then practiced math a ton for a month until I was practice testing between 750 and 800, so I hope to be at ~2200+ for this test. BUT I HAVE TO WAIT 2-4 MORE WEEKS! arghhhh

How did you jump 400 points? Was it just by going through the SAT College Board review book?

On the bright side, you know you got at least 350 points higher :stuck_out_tongue: And yeah, it’s really annoying, but then again it’s summer right? Just relax and check for your grades a week later or so :)
