Official Kenyon Class of 2010

White Materia: You will find a whole bunch of upperclassmen at Kenyon as well, who are really into Frieda Kahlo, I being one of them!! She is awesome!! woot!!! And along with her works, you must have also watched a movie on her???

"Frida" the movie is excellent. We watched a year ago in the Art History club. The movie represented the artist's life very well. I loved how they used the special effects to weave her works and her own personal life seamlessly. Selma Hayek was absolutely beautiful in the role. The cast was strong, and the movie portrayed her pain and suffering in the most dignified way. Definitely loved Geoffry Rush as her older lover, and along with the elements of bisexuality: intense and erotic.

My favorite paintings of her are "Cropped Hair", "Dos Fridas", "Henry Ford Hospital", "Broken Column", and "Love Embrace of the Universe". I have lots of favorites obviously, so she is indeed one of my -favorites-. I could go on and on about her, but I'll save everyone the trouble. XD

I just wonder if you know that 15 international students have been admitted ED this year: http://www.kenyon.edu/x6161.xml. I guess that is pretty much compared to the number of intels admitted last year.

ShtekmaN, in fact this article was written before August 2005 (as mentioned somewhere). I don't believe they can update the website that quickly :)
I would like to ask the international applicants about the part I application to Kenyon. I summitted it kinda late about a week ago and still I haven't heard anything from them. Kenyon stated that Part I must be approved before I may complete the entire application which is due on Jan 15. But the deadline is coming and I'm quite worried. So what exactly did it take for you to be approved to complete the entire application?
Thanks everybody in advance :)

I am an international student too. In fact the Part2 and3 are linked to the online commonapp. So you can add Kenyon to your college list and finish the materials online first and send an E-mail to explain your case. You have sent the part 1, right? They will be back to work on Jan. 3; right then you might get a permission to continue. In fact I guess few applicants are stopped at the Part 1 :-)

Hey jaah... I am not sure... but I thought that the deadline for RD is early Jan? like somewhere first or second... check again, I may be wrong though! =) But it's all right, it gets approved quite fast.

i am SURE the deadline for RD is jan 15. however, i have heard sth abt the part one deadline being Jan 1 or sth. Not sure abt that, but app deadlines are Jan 15.

Hey guys,
It's so funny to read what u r writing since it seems like reading myself again, a year after being admitted to Kenyon.

I am also an international student, I think this year just 5 or so int'l have been admitted ED. Last year a total of 15 accepted to attend Kenyon.

Let me know if u have some questions, u can also pm me on aim.

good luck guys

My name is Dal. I live in Atlanta, GA.

I just found this site when I googled "Kenyon" and I really wish that I had found it sooner!

I got into Kenyon ED and I am absolutley estatic about it. In the South, people tend to go to about only 5 different schools, while I could have gone to those schools, I found Kenyon truly refreshing and the minute I stepped foot on campus, I felt at home.

I had some questions about the drinking scene at Kenyon, but they were aptly answered in another thread. About the "Wellness" dorms, though: Is their any stigma attached to living in one of those dorms?

Again, I can't tell you how excited I am to be going to Kenyon and I can't wait to get there

2010!!

DAL

frankly, nobody really even cares if you live in wellness or not. this is not to be demeaning to wellness people: its just that wellness is not a big deal at all. wellness people do not always sit together or eat together or what not. the only way i characterize wellness is that that's what they call third floor mcbride. not all people there are non-smokers/drinkers either. i think it is just one of those baits for prospies: "and yeah, if you dont smoke or drink, you can choose to live in wellness."
having said that, i dont even live in wellness so maybe i am not even qualified to say all that. and yet, i request, lets move beyond wellness.
its the same thing, pretty much. dont worry abt it.

Hi Dal. Congratulations on being part of the Class of 2010 like the rest of us. What I like about this site is that I can meet with my fellow classmates so soon. I can't wait till I see you next year, Dal. AIM me if you ever want to chat. I've already been getting to know kenyon_10, AHarris, and QuakerOaties on IM.

Oh yeah, for any of you that use LiveJournal, QuakerOaties has set up a LJ community for us: http://www.livejournal.com/community/kenyon10/

Sign up and say hi!

Hi, Dal. Nice to meet you! I am looking forward to seeing u next year. I wonder if the weather is a factor that attracts u to Kenyon. In fact, I live in the southest of China but my parents are from the north. So I really like snow very much and it is so fantastic when it snows:-)a little "childish", right ha?
Hi, Mike. Nice to meet you. Do you have MSN? If so, could u add me on?Thanks.
Oh! Now comes an important thing.
Happy New Year to everybody! And wish everyone a funny, promising and glorious 2006!

It may not surprise you that Kenyon is relativly unknown in the South. Yet this is precisely the reason I chose Kenyon. Also, in the South snow is virtually nonexistent and the ohio winter sounds exciting to say the least

Alex, unfortunately, I do not have MSN. I do have AIM.

Ohio is in the Midwest, a springboard towards the Eastern Coast.

Kenyon is well-known and respected in many areas, but the general public has little to no knowledge of Kenyon and its prominence. Which sucks, but oh well.

I personally love winter snow, but the freezing cold can be quite annoying to say the least. Bring something warm! :D

Hey people!! Let's revive and welcome Ace and JDai onboard this thread!! :) Oh well, how I wish I am the Dean of Admissions so that I can be the first to congrats Kenyon acceptees. :p

Congrats Ace and JDai!! Perhaps you may want to do a bit of introduction here so that we can know you better which will make our experience on the Hill slightly better come August?

still thinking about cedar point, sledding on the hill with a stolen dining tray, academics at Kenyon, Kenyon Athletic Center (a place great for me to shed those extra kilos), Kokosing... :D

I'm new here - just registered today.
I'm an international student from mainland China and I got admission from Kenyon (ED2) a couple of days ago. It was hilarious!!
I'm looking forward to meeting my future classmates soon!

so, my younger brother got accepted to kenyon. i'm happy for him. it's one of two schools that he applied to. not sure if he'll choose it yet (depends on aid).

I also got into Kenyon ED2! I'm from New York, and very into theater. So excited about heading to Gambier next year! I look forward to talking to all of you!

Welcome actionrunner and RadioTV2 onboard this thread!!

WOw!! It's incredible that your bro only applied to 2 schools! And no worries, Kenyon's need-based aid is really good, judging from what we have gotten so far (the ED I people... i.e. Alex, me and White Materia)

that's good to hear. i think he prefers kenyon over the other college, which has assured him all finaid he will need. yeah, he applied to both shcools early so that he would have a decision before any of his safety schools (which is basically the state univeristy that doesnt give good aid).
