Official Midd 2010 Decisions Thread

Sorry, I didn't say obcessed with scores, but with over 6,0000 applicants isn't it strange they would take someone flagged with personal quality issues? I would imagine most applicants to Midd don't have low ratings. Again, from the article:

However, there were problems in his file. The boy had flunked at least one class and consistently drew low ratings on PQs -- personal qualities. A school recommendation suggested that the student might need support, socially. An alumni interviewer noted that the boy came across as unenthusiastic during their meeting.
The low PQs prompted numerous questions from the application readers and admissions officers. They wondered: Would the student be better off at a place like MIT? Would a little extra hand-holding -- a carefully matched roommate, say -- be enough to help the student adjust at Middlebury?
And while the applicant won admiration for what the committee agreed was an extraordinary math talent, they seemed to worry that he was academically lopsided. One of the readers was disappointed that both his essays were about math.

I really wanna see that mit kid. Congrats to every one !! By the way I wanna ask you the same question are you the rodeo queen that we see on the class of 10 page

Other thoughts:Can't wait to get there!

My daughter was accepted with about 2050 SAT (don't know for sure). She hasn't been in a prep school, or even a school that offers APs and her teachers are barely aware of SATIIs. Unlike most of the other "top" schools she applied to, Middlebury gave her an on-campus interview, a chance to talk to teachers and visit a class, an alumni interview, a chance to send in supporting material, and even the application gave her a chance to show who she is.
As for the math whiz discussed in the article, maybe Middlebury accepted him with the idea that he might thrive in a smaller, more caring school. I thought college is a place to mature and a liberal arts college is a place to broaden one's interests--I'm sorry that for so many of you nowadays, you're supposed to be a complete perfect package before you even apply.
By the way, my daughter is coming to Middlebury. We're ecstatic!

Congratulations mom!
