Essays: I thought my essays were fantastic. I loved my supplementary one. It was unique, I thought. My common app essay was about my family because I have adopted siblings from another country. I guess they just weren't good enough, though. Ugh. All that blood, sweat, and tears.

Recs: My counselor loves me, although she's not a great writer. Two teachers loved me too. One told other teachers he'd vote for me for president. My principal even wrote me a rec, and although that was to explain a program unique to my school, that I went to the Czech Rep for, my counselor read it and said it was very positive.

Um, what else? I am basing this on other threads...I guess my weaknesses are my math SAT, and that I'm a white girl from NJ. Strengths - CR, French maybe, essays, and I thought I had good ECs.

Final thoughts -- it is so, so their loss. Don't cry guys!!!

i got deferred too

oh! my interview. it wasn't great. i had all this fantastic stuff thought out, but the guy didn't even go to midd, his son did, and he talked about him the whole time. it wasn't necessarily bad, though. and how much does it really count?

a;lsdkjfals;kdfjas;ldfk i'm just extremely annoyed. i really loved midd, but i'm putting it at the bottom of my list now.

i wonder if the rumors are true -- the only kids who get in early (as a gross generalization) are athletes, legacies, minorities, and geographically desirable people. the rest of us just have to fend for ourselves during RD.

Zlin,
Don't give up hope!! Your stats are amazing!! Apply to a bunch of similar small LAC schools and I'm sure you'll be successful!! And don't forget, Middlebury is still a possibility. Good luck! And get to work sending out more apps...

Accepted! :DDDDDDDDDDDDD

AP: French Lang: 3, Human Geo: 4, French Lang (re-take): 4, German Lang: 4, USH: 4, English: 5, Chemistry: 5

Grades:
I have a 4.8 GPA weighted and 3.9-something unweighted. I only took one honors class freshman year but after that it was all honors and AP. I took 1 AP class sophomore year, 5 AP classes junior year, and am now taking 6 AP classes. After my freshman year, my French teacher offered me the chance to skip French II by self-studying it over the summer. I took the opportunity then went into Honors French III. At the same time, I had decided to take German I my sophomore year and the teacher who proctored my challenge test was impressed and offered me the chance to skip to Honors German III (with no prior experience, besides that first week of German). I did and got an A in the class. I took the AP French test after Honors French III just for practice and scored a 3. I took the AP German test last year (my junior year) and pulled off a 4 somehow after only two years of studying the language. So, as you can see, Middlebury is my dream college and I tailored my application towards that with my essays and rec. letters (I got both from my former French teachers).

Anything else you want to say? Uhm... about the comment about only minorities getting in and all that. Well, I'm really happy I got accepted but I do see that because I am half-Filipino (other half Caucasian) and because I do live in Arizona, things could be tipped my way. Either way, I'm really ecstatic and never thought in a million years I'd get into a college that has such a stellar language program (I'll be majoring in French)...!

yeah being deferred really isnt a bad things guys

i mean it definitely sucks but it means that they are still interested in you. not to mention we will probably get priority over the rd kids cause we applied for ed

At the risk of infuriating others, I am going to say that whether or not a kid gets a mere bump in admission committees because of their athletic, minority or legacy status is typically never enough to get them an acceptance letter. It is very clear, at least to me, that you are a great candidate for the language program of Midd and that you also fit a unique demographic that has them killing about 2 birds (race, demographic) with one stone. However, I also wouldnt have batted an eye had you been accepted and your demographic was white girl from NYC. It is pretty obvious you are in the right place and so... Congratulations on all your hard work and dedication.

Thank you so much.

I'll just add onto that and say that I have worked extremely hard and would not appreciate it if someone attributed my acceptance letter to only my race or only to where I live. I have worked hard and even though I do not have the long lists of volunteerwork or clubs like other people, I am extremely passionate about languages and I showed this in all of my application. So, that's that.

deferred. join the club kids. the person from jersey...you had rediculous stats very sorry about the decision...those stats looks great...just shows that they're looking for this class makeup and it all varies on what they want

ya i'm still surprised by how many kids have gotten deferred here, and I have no idea how zlin did not get in...

accepted- !!!

accepted ! i hail from the wild wild west as well.

guess it sucks to be from new jersey

I think Zlin definitely has a point. Most recruited athletes go ED, and since each team gets a number of spots, that's a lot of people. And diversity candidates, whether racial or geographic, get priority as well since schools feel they make for a more interesting campus.

yeah i was an athlete and didnt get in
joys of being a white male suburbanite

wow....sorry to hear about all the deferrals guys

wow...i can't get over how many there were....usually CC doesnt have that many. But at least they weren't denies.
good luck everyone
