This is posted for my sister (she asked that I post her decisions)...

*Decision: REJECTED *

[] Essays (subject and responses): Did the required one on describing the environment from which she came and wrote about her interests in Chemistry & Music. I believe she also submitted an optional essay about music, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I read all of her essays and considered them quite strong.
[] Teacher Recs: Should have been quite strong. One came from her math teacher who she's had as a teacher for four courses and an advisor for four years. The other was her Spanish teacher (Yale graduate who has taught at Yale) who is known for writing excellent recommendations.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably good, if a bit impersonal. She's considered a bit of a "phenom" in her high school so I think he spent a good amount of time talking about that and her overall record rather than discussing personal thoughts on her.
[] Applied on: ~12/30
[li] Hook (if any): legacy (father attended MIT). She's also a year accelerated in mathematics (taking multivariable calculus this year), not that that's all that special for MIT. She submitted some files of her flute-playing along with her application.
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: lower CT (very affluent area from which top schools take a disproportionate amount of students... things are VERY competitive when it comes to get into top universities/LACs)
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): private school... typically 6-10 students go to Ivy League-level universities a year (those who get in at the Ivies have been almost exclusively minority students). 5-8 usually go to top 20 LACs. Most of the class usually attends mid-tier universities and LACs.
[] Ethnicity: white
[] Gender: female
[/ul]General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Ah well, we were hoping for a spot on the waitlist, but this doesn't come as that much of a surprise. She didn't have her heart set on any place in particular, so fortunately isn't too crushed.
