[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to UT, Texas A&M.

[/ul]General Comments: Don’t stress too much about test scores as long as you can balance it out with a good extracurricular profile. Pretty satisfied with the results and hope that everyone who also got accepted a great year and to those who were deferred or rejected, there’s always a better school for you and it was NYU’s loss for not taking you in as they have lost many of the brightest ones of our generation.

Congratulations to all those who got accepted! Could anyone chance me on the link below for Stern and Gallatin? Thanks

[] Volunteer/Community service: 60+ hours and day to day stuff like picking up trash on the side of the road when walking home
[] Summer Activities: self teaching programming, traveling (which is why i havent been able to attend camps or hold a steady summer job)
[] Essays: Main - 7/10? People said it was good, but I wrote it the day I turned in the app. It was about being part of the GSTA and taking pride in that and challenging the norm (my school is a catholic school) and using my html skills to design a website for the group. Supplement - 9/10 I talked about touring at NYU and how the girl had emphasized that people actively learned and make things and I talked about how I want to work with people who have passions and don’t just do the minimum. Talked about what I had done to pursue my interests.
[] Teacher Recommendation: 10/10 - bio teacher, leader of GSTA, is very wonderful and has seen me work in her class and outside of it. Second was english teacher, dont know because she wouldnt let me see it. English teacher has seen me at good and bad so its a toss up really.
[] Counselor Rec: 9.5/10 she basically interviewed me and then put my answers in. Good review, sounds like an interview though.
[] Additional Rec: 10/10 - Woman I shadowed at Kaplan, lives in New York, family friend who has been technologically tutored by me, so shes seen me be professional and she’s seen me be me.

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): female going into STEM, financial aid not needed.

[/ul]**Reflection[ b][ul]
[]Weaknesses: I got very depressed junior year which resulted in my changing schools and staying back a grade. GPA could be way better.
[] Strengths: I’m working through my depression and getting stronger every day, I didn’t try to hide it or act ashamed of it (i just said, this is what happened, this is where I’m going now), female in stem, no financial aid needed
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I have drive and independence and I know where I’m going even if I’ve struggled getting there at some points.
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:

[/ul]General Comments:
Never thought this would happen. This might sound trivial, but to people that want to take a risk and apply somewhere crazy follow your heart. Be logical and prepare for the worst but hope for the best and follow your passions, in and out of school. Find meetups where you live and make a website to do what you need to do. The Internet is a wondrous place and a lot of good can come from taking that initiative. Take advantage of all you can. I hope this is helpful, I remember these things were helpful to me when I browsed this site for the last three years

Reflection[ b]
Weaknesses: UW GPA and IB scores
Strengths: ECs definitely, essay, hooks
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: most of my ECs are connected to my major, so it shows a lot of passion
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to UMass- Amherst, Northeastern University and Case Western Reserve University
General Comments:
I actually thought all the odds were going against me, I got a 1750 on my SAT (but didn’t send). I was so ready for a rejection. but i’ve put so much work into my essays and ECs that they paid off!! :)

I confused. Unless you are extremely wealthy, why apply ED to NYU. The financial aid is terrible. Then again, if you need financial aid, it won’t be hard to be released from your ED commitment given that virtually everyone is gapped.

Because it increases your chances of making it and if they can’t meet your financial need, you can back out

I was accepted ED1, but I got no financial aid or scholarships. I cannot attend as a result and it breaks my heart. :frowning: DON’T APPLY ED IF YOU AREN’T SURE YOU CAN GO BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL REASONS. Also I think that scholarships are granted unfairly. Good luck.

xim0204…did you inform NYU of your decision? What was their reaction…or did you simply hit the decline button on Albert? It doesn’t seem it should be a problem for you with other schools…since terrible financial aid package.

@brazos21 I will hit the decline button tonight, but I have called my admissions counselor at NYU and have already made it clear that I cannot attend. Before doing so, I asked him if there was anything he could do and he said that he couldn’t.
