Any ISPers?

I just want to give my experiences of the two universities as a high school senior. I was accepted to both but will be attending neither (lol). UChicago gave me a feel of very focused academics, as in the people there are all quirky in their own way, from talking about Star Wars to the Einstein-Bose Condensate. I would categorize the general student population as “nerdy.” Northwestern on the other hand seemed much more laid back, with sports, parties, and frats seeming to have a larger influence. I got an impression of a school that was smart, but had the atmosphere of a state school albeit on a smaller scale. To me, the students at UChicago gave off an air of academia that the students at NW did not (I personally liked UChicago better but my best friend said he preferred NW). Just my 2 cents.

Essentially, NU is fun, and UChicago isn’t :-D

Out of curiosity, anyone know why the Facebook group hasn’t let anyone in yet? I’m itching to meet some more new Wildcats!

I’m not sure why they haven’t. I think they let in a few, but maybe it’s just because this is the first or second week of spring quarter. Not really sure.

Is it possible they are only letting in people who have deposited? It would explain why there are the ED kids plus a very small amount of students since then… I’ve been waiting to be accepted into the group as well. Really frustrating.

They let the small group of RD in early, and all at once. I figure people have deposited since then. I’m not quite sure the reason, but I’m sure they’ll let you in soon

I didn’t make the deposit yet and they let me in. But I had requested it quite early… like a day after the decisions came out!!

@rishav17, have you made any progress wrt your financial situation with NU?

Yeah I was wondering the same thing- how is your appeal going @rishav?

still haven’t been accepted to the NU facebook group - I saw that over a hundred students have been added in the past 8-9 hours or so. should I be worried? :/

@endlessroad - I haven’t been added yet either… they might just have a huge number of people to go through and have to check everyone. I also haven’t officially enrolled/sent in a deposit yet, so I don’t know if that matters

Until the RD group, only about 550 were on there, and there were 900 some ED. Then add in all the RD (which is probably 2000 since there is a 45% or so yield, and 1000 people would come), so there are probably a lot of people asking to join.

@comm17 - I haven’t officially made my deposit yet either… Hopefully, the NU FB admin will add both of us by the end of this week. I can’t wait until I interact with other 'Cats! :)

I got enough aid, NU was incredibly generous to me. I’m so excited - see you guys in the fall!
:D

Are any of you guys gonna chose to live in a residential college? I’m torn between public affairs and commerce.

S made his decision after WildCat Days and we sent his deposits today. Go Cats of 2017!!

D has spoken and she is coming. Although NU will cost us $100,000 more over the next four years than another top 20 school she believes that NU is the perfect fit for her. We are not rich and are going to have lots of sacrifices but we wholeheartedly support her decision. After several recent visits, NU has also emerged as the #1 for my junior S. Let’s see what happens next year!!

Congrats to all of you who have decided to choose NU…You can never go wrong with this splendid choice!

@Indycat - Congratulations!! I think almost all kids who choose NU have great scholarship options at other schools. For what it’s worth, we’ve paid full freight for our D’s fist two years and in spite of the sacrifices view it as money VERY well spent.

I think Berkeley was among both our kid’s options, and it sounds like they reached the same conclusion. Great minds apparently do think alike.

Funny - our S is also following in our Ds footsteps although they’ll be in two very different subject areas. Few schools have such strong programs across diverse colleges. Good luck to your son as he makes his choice over the coming years!
