Official Northwestern University Transfer Thread

my school has an online system for sending transcripts so I used that, im sure calling would work too. “top of the pile” haha, doesnt sound to reassuring. i kinda think this will end up taking a long time

Just take it easy guys. We will get the decisions when they send them. I am just gonna wait and stay happy during summer break even though I have little possibility to get in to NU. God bless us!

So usually how strong are the transfer applicants vs. freshman class? I hear that their decisions don’t come out until late June… any truth to this?

Yea I applied last year and studied abroad, didn’t find out until Mid-June of their decision. I re-applied this year with an even stronger application, and I honestly think they will not tell us until June-July. I think one of the reasons is they are on the quarter system, so they do not really know how many people are going to be returning to NU next year, so it is hard to accept new students if you don’t know how many are going to transfer elsewhere.

So, I emailed the transfer student help person and I was told that my application was currently under review. Does that mean they are actually looking at it right now and I should have an answer in the near future?

Ahh, I just need to know so I don’t end up losing a $200 deposit somewhere else if I do get in!!

I’ve been talking to the transfer coordinator too, and my email from yesterday explained that my application was also in review and that I shouldn’t expect a decision within a week because there’s no telling how long it will take the committee to review an application. Nothing concrete. :frowning: I just want to know where I’m going next year!

For people whose applications are under review: did you already mail Northwestern your spring transcripts? Or did they not need them?

Last time I called, I was told that I needed to send my final grades…but I’m still waiting for my teachers to put them in…

I was told that spring grades aren’t required unless the review committee wants to see them, so it can’t hurt to send them now/as soon as possible because if they do want to see them they will already have them instead of having to wait to get in contact with you and then have you get in contact with your school and have them mailed.

yeah i was told that my application is under review by the committee, but that doesnt mean much and that i could hear a decision in a week, or in a month

When I asked about my application, it was considered complete. I was told that spring grades weren’t mandatory, but could be helpful if I had them. I just need to find time to go to my registar to send them. Sweet, I’m pumped that I’m potentially losing $200 by depositing somewhere else…

^ well i’m potentially losing an $800 deposit that I have to send in by the 6th of June but i really wanna go to northwestern…i have no idea what to do…

A friend of mine got a rejection letter already.
So they have been sending out the “no’s” to people I assume.
I also called and they told me that they are still actually dealing with the incoming freshmen and they just recently started the transfers…
So, I actually called and spoke to a school where I had put a deposit, they told me that I could get the deposit back if I let them know before orientation. You may want to call your schools to which you have sent deposits and see if this is the case.

wow, someone already got a rejection letter? Maybe I’ll call my other school and ask, I just feel kind of bad saying, “Hey, thanks for accepting me, but I’m only going to come if I can’t get into anywhere better.” But money is money, right?

Yea that is 100% fine, colleges understand that you can’t make a 100% commitment to something as big as education, I talked with Loyola (my back-up) and they were fine with it, they understood completely and are allowing me to make a deposit as late as I would like, as long as it is before orientation.

I am dying to hear back, but I don’t want a rejection letter, so I am willing to wait!

My dad called today, they said the latest is the end of June. Looks like we have some more waiting to do

Hey Mul, if you don’t mind me asking, what school are you transferring from?

I applied to Loyola as well! haha. So it’s nice to know the deposit thing is taken care of. It could be worse, I mean in past years people haven’t heard until mid-July and what not.

anyone know if northwestern has a waitlist for transfers?

Well I’ve already paid a 500$ deposit to claremont mckenna but they have like this comittment card thing which asks us not to accept any other univ once we’ve paid the deposit.! so i think i might not be allowed to accept northwestern…that is provided they accept me first! but im on top of the world with claremont having accepted me…oh well! will i still be allowed to accept northwestern IF i get in?
