Official Northwestern University Transfer Thread

heh. to those you have already been accepted/rejected: how long was it from when u got the email that you were “in progress” until you got the letter in the mail?

JGee, I haven’t recieved an admissions decision yet, however when I emailed the admission’s specialist and inquired about the status of my application she told me that my application was complete and under review. She did also mention that she couldn’t give me a specific time frame of when I would hear back because depending on the application it can take a time frame that isn’t necessarily predictable. I don’t think there is an average time of application turn-overs.

I wish there was though!

I don’t know specifics of acceptance letter. I will probably call later on to check. I emailed them on the 6th to make sure my app was complete and they responded on the 7th of May. This was before I sent in my spring grades. I ordered spring grades around the 17th of May. I never received any other emails.

Does Northwestern do the “big acceptance package” vs. “small rejection letter” deal?

Yes, Northwestern does do the small/big envelope. The big ones say congratulations on the front of the package, so be sure to look out for the big white envelop sticking out of your mailboxes! I know they use small ones for rejection, got one last year :/

I’m so tired of waiting!!! I don’t know how I am going to wait 4 more weeks!

praying for the big envelope…

once again, the mail came and went, but no letter :(. I submitted my spring grades just incase. Hopefully that will speed up the process slightly? I was really proud of my spring semester.

I know, isn’t it nerve racking to go to the mailbox everyday? haha, I hate it.
What are your stats, FreeClear, if you don’t mind me asking? I am just curious as to what the competition is. :)

it’s cool. It’s nothing special lol. I’m going to be a junior. Majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Chemistry, but thinking about switching over to biochem.

College GPA: 3.83 (all A’s but a few damn A-'s)
HS GPA: 3.5 (had a TERRIBLE freshman year)
ACT: 26 :frowning:
In college I have been working in a primate neurobehavioral lab for 2 years and went to a local conference as well as the Society for Neuroscience conference to present a poster. I’m currently working one 2 papers for publication (one being based off of the poster presented and the other I’m the first author.) I will also be attending Society for Neuroscience this year with my name on two posters.

I’m currently researching at a medical school auditory processing lab with the hopes of becoming an author on a poster.

I hope they ignore my high schoo stuff because it’s weak, but I know that I got awesome recommendations and I have decent essays.

What about you Mul? Anyone else wanna post their stats so I don’t feel awkward haha.

excuse all the mispellings, I’ve drank A LOT of coffee today… …on* 2… and …high school*…

haha

Would be entering as a sophomore
College GPA: 3.85 from William & Mary (3.93 first semester, not sure if theyll get the final transcript in time)
SAT: 1430/1600 2160/2400
HS GPA: 3.92 Weighted, 3.45 Unweighted
College EC’s: Model UN (5 conferences, 1 best delegate award), elected hall council rep, couple other random ones.

If I get in, I have to choose between WashU and Northwestern (seems like everyone else is in this same situation -_- )

I also will be entering as a junior, going for a double major in International Relations and French, with a minor in Spanish language.

H.S. GPA: 3.85, alot of EC’s including student council officer for four years, delegate to the school board, over 400 hours of community service (with a Golden Medallion State Award for Volunteer), President of both French and Spanish Club, A Grant Writing Committee, United Way, Junior Optimist, DECA, BPA, and a few more I cannot remember, haha.

Test Scores: I honestly do not remember, haha. I think I got a 29 or a 30 on my ACT, did horribly on my SAT (except for my French one, got a 689 out of 700)

I have been to two colleges thus far. Firstly, I was at the University of Mary Washington, and got 3.85 for both semesters (those A minuses really do suck) and did language/culture activites and clubs on campus. I was supposed to go to NU, but found out too late to go back, so I went to the University of Notre Dame’s Holy Cross College, and got a 4.0 for both semesters, some of my classes taken at Notre Dame. I studied abroad last summer at La Sorbonne and L’Institut Catholique in Paris, France, and I am studying abroad again this summer with Semester at Sea in 9 different countries in the Mediterranean and North Africa. I was the only French tutor at Holy Cross College and continued to volunteer.

Reccomendations from great professors, one went to NU and is very involved with the alumni association. Two other inside connections at the University within the Administration and board, two family members are alumni (one was went for both undergrad and grad, my grandfather, and did alot of philanthropic work with University when he was alive) and…pretty good and specific essays. Also applied as a transfer student last year, was “waitlisted” (I was only notified because of a connection) and ultimately rejected while in France (July actually) and it was too late to return to my previous school. :/

So, wow, this is super long. haha

I’ll try to make my post short and quick. I think the common thread is that most of us bombed high school. But hey, it’s ok, some people mature very late. As long as it happens before it’s too late…

Applied: Junior
HS GPA: 3.35 (top 15%)
College GPA: 3.95 (good state school)
SAT I: >2300
SAT II: ^around same area
Hooks: Sent them a supplementary application with some of my writing (articles, short bio/interests, even a poem)
Other: Applying as Econ major/Stats minor, but have interests in many fields. Wrote about how WCAS would help me to continue pursuing those interests. I thought my formal essays were a bit weak though. Tested really well in HS but didn’t give a flying hoot about grades. Figures.

does NU release rolling on a weekly basis, or random everyday?

I honestly do not think there is really a structured system for their admissions review process, it obviously isn’t looked at by who applied at what time, because my friend who heard applied close to the deadline and was rejected, and mine was finished in February. So, I think it must be random, whoever is on the pile? haha

yeah but i meant if they release decisions rolling on a daily basis, or release them rolling on a weekly basis (i.e. every monday)

xfer, I don’t know. I would almost imagine that they don’t, but that’s just me speculating. I’m not sure how they do it.

囧!Help!

Please help me!
I really want to transfer to Northwestern uni and I’ve already applied for the fall semester, but I don’t have a SAT score, and it’s impossible for me to get one now…
And I’m on waiting list of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
People say I could call and maybe I could have a chance to let them reconsider…
I don’t know what to do…
Helpless…
SO, Please anyone, please help me~

Here is my situation:
I’m currently in China, in an international program in a prestigious national university where teachers are all hired in the US with high standards, all course are designed as American Universities all in English (books are also bought from the States)
Freshman year GPA: 3.93 (4.0, 3.86)
Sophomore year GPA: 3.97 (3.93, 4.0)
Major: Communications
Ranking: top 1%
I’ve got plenty of extracuriculum activities

Though my high school grades are not very good, because the system in China is different, we tend to have very difficult test, so the score can’t present anything, but the ranking in class and the whole grade is much more important. I ranked top 15% in my high school. However, I don’t think they will understand…

They won’t review my application if I don’t give them my SAT score, I feel desperate!
Should I call? What should I say?

Sorry it’s very long…I’m just overwhelmed

Call them and explain your situation, alot of people do not take the SAT’s, but they may require that you need to take an ESL test or something of that sort. Are you an American citizen or a Chinese citizen? This will make a big difference, if you are international you have a whole different application process, if you are just studying abroad and are an American citizen, then did you take the ACT? If I were you, I would just call the university and explain your situation. Don’t stress, you will be fine! :)
