Official Northwestern University Transfer Thread

I didn't have to turn in my spring grades. But I'm a junior transfer, so I don't know if things are different for sophomore transfers.

Either they lost my transcripts or they want my spring grades...but I'm a Junior transfer. So I'm guessing it's the former?

I read a discussion about transfer decisions from last year and people were receiving letters well into June. I think the last one that I saw was June 24th. I'm really anxious to find out if I was accepted to NU. I'm going to Loyola if not. I live and work in downtown Evanston, so it would be great if NU would take me.

for those of you who were already admitted, what colleges are you guys coming from?

Hey all,

I just wanted to give you transfers who are thinking about going to Nu some advice. It is a wonderful school with tremendous people....however, I applied last year for transfer and remember not getting any financial aid (not even a penny-loans do not count!)--so just be prepared that normally first year transfers will not likely get any aid and you will be paying 50K (or deferred loans if you like to see it that way)-just wanted u to be prepared :) at least for the first year-ouch-but....Best of luck in your decision.

they said they were missing my hs transcript...but i already sent in mine in march!

My case is different from Danzluver's in that I got a full financial aid offer my first year here as a transfer, but this might be because I'm severely low-income.

what's severely low? Under 40K?

this concerns me greatly as well. i haven't heard anything from NU's financial aid office. if they offered some financial aid, i would definitely go to NU, but if they don't give me any, it's a tough call between NU and Rochester, which is meeting my need. hopefully they will give me something :</p>

yea, just under 40k.

That's a pretty good point. They say that right on their website also. Do you think that the problem is that most transfer students don't find out if they are even accepted until after the deadline for financial aid has passed? That's what I was thinking, but it could be for another reason.

Are they really that stringent on fin aid for transfer students?? I couldn't find anything on the website that said they were, tommysaxondale. That would be tough if I got no finaid. That's assuming I get in of course, haha. I hope I hear soon...

I would hate to rain on anyone' parade, but if your parents make too much money, you definitely will be in a bind. sanjenferrer is right, unless you are severely low income, or perhaps independent they simply don't have the funds left when it comes around to transfers. At least that's what I was told....I wish I I could have gone to school there but I couldn't afford that sort of tuition even for one year. But i believe things happen for a reason...again, best of luck to you all!

I just checked my financial aid and THEY OFFERED ME FINANCIAL AID!
Now I'm definitely going to Northwestern! They matched what Rochester is giving me, so despite having already committed to Rochester, I guess I'll have to say no to them. That's a $500 deposit wasted, but this is by far the best thing that happened to me :). I really needed aid this year because I likely won't get any next year, since my parents are gonna make a whole lot more money when we move.

I think this is a good news to a lot of other people as well, since it shows that NU does offer aid to some lucky people like me. Transfer hopefuls, don't lose hope, especially if you are accepted early. Best of luck to everyone.

swmass, could i ask how much your parents are making? if I don't get much fin aid, i doubt i could go to NU. I was just wondering what kind of aid i should be expecting. you can pm me if you want too.

If your parents make $160k what are the chances of getting aid?

Probably zip. Sorry kindofblue, there's no place for the middle-class in higher education anymore.

Ok, you submit the application by May first and they tell you by the end of May whether you are accepted or not? If so that's really fast!

Actually, they said people would be receiving decisions until late July. As people said before in the thread, it wasn't uncommon for people to get decisions late June last year.

And what about June 1st commitment deadlines?!?!
