Official Nov. Literature Test Thread

I second that one...also, it is definitely a sonnet - i just double checked it... see this
About the sonnet, not only the form (octet and sextet) but the most recurrent theme (unattainable love) coincide, so it's definitely allusion to mythical whatever... (see the link)

it's vanity.

o noes!!!! i put greed because she was greedy for Joseph... no? no? ok

What were some of the choices for that one?

I don't think it's vanity.....what made you think it was vanity?

there was no indication of class other than her silly vocabulary, which is also and indication of vanity. On the other hand, there are lots of aspects of the story that point to vanity: she thinks she is undeserving of any criticism, she thinks she is young and beautiful, she thinks the guy wants her, etc.

I'm not entirely sure...there is a thing with the servants going on as well, and at the end where she has to leave cuz she is called by sb superior...there is some sort of hierarchy...either way, doesnt matter

worrrrrd

it's ova

The answer was definitely vanity. The entire tone of the passage was mocking her vanity.

Was irony the trait she didn't possess? I narrowed it down to that and aggression, and this was one of three on the test I wasn't sure of.

yeee vanity.

I think she must have been aggressive, because of how she is compared to an animal about to pounce on its prey.

what were the other 2 questions you didn't know?

What was the question and what were some other choices for the vanity one.

That's why I figured it was vanity, since it couldn't have been any of the others. That's good.

Did anyone get why Pygmalion was jealous? For some reason that one baffled me. It seemed like there were too many ways to interpret the passage for that question.

I hated the pygmalion one, I just didn't get a good grasp of it. What was the first question? Something about what galea (sp?) allowed pygmalion?

I think I got -4 on that one passage, at least

for the zora one, was there there an answer that went like: some days she felt proud but most days she was depressed or whatever? i can't remember for sure

All those passages stumped me....I am more of a math and science person. Hopefully I get above a 650 though

For the Zora passage, it's basically saying there's a higher power that we have no control over, right?

What I got was that she was really confident in herself, the bag stuffer is like God, and she feels "lost" compared to everyone in the world.

I thought that she meant by saying that if you empty everyone's bag (the content's which symbolize individual value) into a pile, you will not find something more special in one individual's that another's. I thought it suggested that no one person is better that anyone else.

I have a whole bunch of questions
- for the trumpet one: why was "beating" used instead of beat?
- Zora one: what was the reference to the "God" supposed to reveal? answers were how dispensable human life was, malicious god etc etc.
- Pygmanlion: what were the connoiseurs not? like lovers of beauty etc etc.
- Pygmalion: what did "furious" mean?
- first one: what was something and "ironing" supposed to represent? I think I put prolonging and somthing.

Can anyone guesstimate the curve? If I want a 750 how many can i miss/skip?

For the trumpet one, I put that it emphasized the immediacy of the action.
