Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

so what are your stats for spring transfer? I applied to CAS for film studies.

-I have a 3.72 GPA at Rutgers, deans list and honor society, interned for academy award winning writer and director alex gibney this past summer.
-3rd place for tennis county tournament 2 years in a row in hs.
-went to juilliard for cello for 2 years 8th and 9th grade.
-did a lot of independent fundraising where i raised a total of 8k, which was donated to greenpeace for environmental awareness.
-Got an amazing rec letter from head of english department and vp of academic affairs.

What do you think my chances are? Just confirmed with admissions a few days ago that my application was complete and was currently being reviewed. I am currently an English major, sophomore, at Rutgers but have a much stronger interest in Film.

easier to get into CAS econ or Stern Econ???

@econfigueroa

CAS; however, Stern Economics is more respected and better of regarded then NYU CAS Economics.

It really depends what you want to. For example, if you want to work in business and Wall Street, Stern Economics is better.

Students also face this problem at the University of Pennsylvania vs. UPenn The Wharton School.

I heard Steinhardt’s Media, Culture, Communications major is relatively easy to get into-is that true? That’s the one I’m applying to. It’s basically NYU’s Public Relations major-and I’m coming from the Public Relations major at University of Texas at Austin.

yes, steinhardt, gallatin, and the hotel school are all relatively easier to get into than cas.
they tend to be more academically lenient

@econfigueroa

exactly what MitchAPalooza. CAS econ is more policy oriented whereas Stern econ is more business focused. A lot of students apply for CAS econ with the intent to internally transfer into Stern and it doesn’t really work. Make sure you know what school you want to apply not and don’t just apply for the easier one.

Chance me for stern!

yeah that’s what I thought. I’m grateful too, I had okay high school grades (though I did do IB diploma) but I have a lot of EC’s and community service and work experience, and I feel like coming from UT Austin will help me. I guess we’ll see :)

Bump and @Investment, your grades & ECs are good but you just never know with college admissions. Just do good on your personal statements and you should have a great shot.

@investment

you should be set as long as you finished all your pre-reqs.
also, cornell ‘begging you to apply’ :stuck_out_tongue: is a general info packet sent to phi beta kappa members for community college. some other poster who is a member posted something similar.
but as long as you complete the pre-reqs for cornell also, i say you have a really good shot.

Are you considering going to Fordham lincoln center? I am (if NYU doesn’t take me). I mean, it is a good school, right? That’s what I’m reading. And it has a nice campus/location. Plus I heard it’s really respected in the NYC area, do you know if that’s true? Also, when you got accepted, was it via email or have you gotten the actual letter yer? I got an email-still waiting on the letter :)

Hey guys. I’ve been reading (read: stalking) the Spring 2010 transfer thread and it looks like there’s a way to find out if you got in before you get the letter.

Go to this link: https://start1.nyu.edu/ibin/getnetid1.cgi</a> and fill it out and see if you can create an NYU email. If you can, you got in. If you can’t, your app hasn’t been processed yet… or you got rejected. I’ve tried it and so far, no luck.

Also, did anyone get a notification letter from NYU (not commonapp) saying NYU got the application? I haven’t gotten one.

@sloanewesley I haven’t gotten one either. I am pretty scared, and paranoid that everything didn’t get sent in.

@pinkgrapefruit

I saw your post in the other thread. I wouldn’t worry about it. Usually you are allotted a grace period when filing applications.

Thanks Mitch! And was anybody able to create an account with the link sloane posted?

I got a letter in the mail from NYU about a month ago with my NYU ID on it, and today I entered it in the link and was allowed to make a password and set up my student account. I guess I’m in.

@lrt242 lucky! Are you applying as a transfer? It still isn’t working for me, but I’m still hoping I get in…what are your stats, if you don’t mind my asking?

@pinkgrapefuit i never got an email or a letter saying they got my app but when I called to verify that everything was in, they said they didn’t know wwhy I hadn’t gotten an email but that they had gotten everything.

the link didnt work for me eitherrr. I called nyu about a week ago and they said they will start to send decisions early december.

@kmart
im only gonna consider fordham if i get $20000+ in aid. from what i gather a fordham degree doesnt carry much wait nationally bt its strong in the nyc area (its third behind columbia and nyu). I havent got a letter either. They said fin aid will arrive within 2 weeks after the letter tho so thats good. i actually like fordhams campus location size dorms etc better than nyu bt i got into a couple UCs as a winter admit so im probably heading there if nyu doesnt work out

@tallFrodo

Do you mind me asking which UCs? Out of state transfer or in state?

Instate uci ucsd
