I suppose it is a bit early but I figured sooner rather than later . So will anyone else be transfering to NYU for 2011? I know I will but I'm not so sure I'll get in though because of my mediocre hs stats but I figure if I do well goods grades, ecs letters of rec, etc, I'll hopefully have a chance. What about the rest of you?

Why does stern have to have the strictest requirements.

@Sean

Stern is a rigid program, unlike some of the other divisions. my major, Communications, doesn’t care what order you take the core requirements in. Stern has a specific order from day one of the first year, and they expect transfer students to be able to keep up.

I was moaning rather than posing a serious question… I’m set to finish all of there prerequisite classes in the next two semesters so I’m more concerned about intangibles at this stage.

I will be applying to Stern as a sophomore transfer. I have good HS statistics with a very business-oriented courseload but weak ecs. I wont be able to fulfill all the reqs cuz the courses are not offered at my college. What does Stern focus most on in a transfer application?

I’m currently a Freshman at RPI, and I’m looking to transfer to NYU as a sophomore transfer (or second semester transfer?). I’m a Communications major right now, so I’d most likely be looking at Steinhardt.

Is the application out yet?

Yes it is on the common app.

@MAHEEN11

Just trying to help you out here. I think you should wait until you’ve completed most if not nearly all the prerequisites. It’s been said that prerequisites are one of the most influential factors in deciding admission.

I’d take a look at this page first and then go from there.

[Stern Special Program Requirements](<a href=“How to Apply”>How to Apply)

Darn, I figured I would wait a year and then apply for spring semester. Guess I have to make this year really count. Mitch, do you know if the site posts any stats of accepted freshman?

@MItchapalooza:

Thanks for your reply.

I have already gone through the link. I am attending Bryn Mawr College and it does not offer accounting courses. But in my spring semester, I might be able to take managerial accounting at UPenn. This is not confirmed though. I am currently taking an Emily Balch Seminar (which is compulsory), a wellness course (compulsory) and 3 other classes including statistics, calculus 2 and intro to Econ. The college is not allowing me to take more than 3 classes in my first sem. But I am planning to take four classes next semester. I am attaching a link here so you can better understand my position. The only difference is that my final A-Levels result is out. I got 4As (Accounting, Econ, Business Studies and Maths). My college is not allowing me to skip intro to econ even though I had an A in my A-Level. I will be taking microecon next sem.
Could you please chance me as well?

I couldn’t find the 2010 incoming Freshman class profile but I did find a few statistics.

[Just the Facts](http://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/is-nyu-right-for-you/faqs.html)

There’s also [College Admissions - SAT - University & College Search Tool](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>http://www.collegeboard.com/) but I believe those are 2009s statistics. Looking at the 38% applicants admitted seems a bit high.

[College Search - New York University - NYU - At a Glance](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

@MAHEEN11

Well I guess you’d have to explain why you haven’t taking the accounting classes under the additional information section. Do you also know you must have completed (or be in the process of completing) 30-32 semester hours? I don’t think you’ll even be close with 3 classes this term and 4 the next.

Once again in my opinion you should wait. Why rush your application when you can perfect it to have the greatest chance of admission? If I were you I would go find a counselor at your school and talk to them about your intentions of transferring. I would also get in contact with NYU to see if you’re on track.

MAHEEN11 I heard if you don’t have the pre reqs you get an automatic disqualification .

@somebeast
Is that if you aren’t taking any of the pre reqs or if you haven’t completed them?

@DHazen1172

If you show planned completion of the prerequisites you should be fine. However, to not put yourself in that spot always try taking the prerequisites as earliest as possible. If you’re transferring in 2 years than try taking those prerequisites in the 3 semesters prior, rather than taking them in the spring semester of your last year where the admissions decisions are being sent out.

What is the average GPA of transfer students admitted at Stern right now?

@MitchAPalooza
Thank you for the help. I was wondering, say I only have three of the prereqs completed (or in the midst of completion) would I be good or would I have to finish all four pre reqs for consideration?

@swagger

There seems to be no hard data out there but my guess would be somewhere in the vicinity of a 3.8+. I also remember reading that Stern places a heavy emphasis on math grades and scores.

@DHazen1172

Well you do have to complete all the prerequisites eventually. What I meant to say was try completing them all before the Spring. For example: (This is a 2 year transferee.)

First year at your Institution:

Semester 1:
- Course X
- Course Y
- Expository Writing
- Financial Accounting

Semester 2:
- Course A
- Course B
- Managerial Accounting
- Calculus I

Second Year at your Institution

Semester 3:
- Course Alpha
- Course Beta
- Statistics
- Microeconomics

Then you would send your application in. This is the best scenario since the Adcoms are not depending/wondering how you will do on the prerequisites because you have already completed them all.

Semester 4:
- Whichever classes (& and it won’t matter because they’re not prerequisites. Meaning you have freedom in picking your courses.)

However, you might be able to complete the classes in that time order or whatever the reason so it might look like this instead:

Semester 3:
- Course Alpha
- Course Beta

Send your application in with the your Spring Courses. This is showing planned completion.

Semester 4:
- Statistics
- Microeconomics

This can also work however now you’re leaving doubt in the Adcom’s mind because they do not have the whole picture. I’m not saying this is not acceptable but the first scenario is the best one out of the 2. Of course they can accept you but if you do not complete the planned courses then your admission would most likely be rescinded.

Remember you also have the additional information section to describe why you couldn’t complete the course for whatever reason.

Hopefully that made sense.

What is a credit hour? How do you define 30-32 credit hrs? I ll call nyu soon.

HIS* 101 Western Civilization I (HIS 103) 3 S.H

S.H = Semester Hours

Meaning you’ll most likely have 3 hours of lecture per week for that course.
