Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 720 Math, 730 Critical Reading, 730 Writing
[
] ACT (breakdown): Did not take.
[] SAT II: Did not send.
[
] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.48
[] Weighted GPA (if available): 4.05
[
] Rank/percentile (if available): School does not rank, but I am about in the top 25%
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Only reported on Common Application, but did not formally send scores: AP Euro (5), AP US History (5), AP English Literature (will take in May), AP Calculus AB (will take in May)
[

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Mock Trial (president), Feminist Alliance (President), Creative Writing Club (President), Model UN, Tennis, editor for a very well-known political website, intern at my district’s courthouse under a first justice, creative writing in general
[
] Job/Work Experience:
[] Volunteer/Community service: Volunteer at my town’s historical society
[
] Summer Activities: intern at a district courthouse under a first justice
[] Essays: Very good, counselor said best he had ever read
[
] Teacher Recommendation: One was kind of oddly written, but the teacher’s veneration and warm feelings for me really showed through. Another, I’m not sure about, because the teacher and I had very different personalities (me being very outspoken in her history courses and her being very goody two-shoes-ish), but I think she wrote me a good one because she admired my ability to always express my opinion. Another one I had to get from a teacher who I asked to write about my “integrity” and “high moral standards” because I knew my counselor was writing me a terrible recommendation.
[] Counselor Rec: Terrible, counselor hated me, said he would write in my recommendation that I cared more about the grades than the actual learning.
[
] Additional Rec: I had an extra recommendation, which I read, from my Mock Trial team’s lawyer adviser. It was very well-written, and I think it really highlighted my strengths as a mock trial attorney.

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes
[
] Intended Major: Economics, but put Art History on application
[] State (if domestic applicant): Massachusetts
[
] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Highly-ranked public school in Connecticut
[
] Ethnicity: Korean-Japanese, but did not report on Common Application
[] Gender: Female
[
] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Extracurriculars and awards, and SAT
[
] Weaknesses: Recommendations and GPA
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: My essay, SAT, and extracurriculars helped make up for a low GPA, and I don’t think the counselor recommendation even matters so HA SUCK IT guidance counselor!
[
] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Rejected at Vassar College, deferred at UMichigan, had to withdraw other apps because of ED agreement.

[/ul]General Comments:
At my school, the average acceptance into NYU was a 4.05 weighted GPA and a 2050 SAT. As you can see, NYU was definitely within my shot even RD. It was originally a match/safety that I applied RD, but I switched into ED last minute because my grade in AP Calculus was so bad and because of my counselor recommendation. Still, I am very happy to have made the choice to ED, as this year seems ridiculously competitive, and I am proud to be a part of the class of 2019. Go Violets!

Did you guys get any merit aid as ED2 students? Always wondered if schools just didnt give it because they have no reason to incentivize you to come

@dvgbhs‌ yeah I got around 20k in merit aid

@ImNYUobsessed Hey, I got around 40k in Merit Aid (this includes grants and work/study) but I’m really worried about the extra 26k in loans… What do you think about this financial aid package? Are there too many loans?

@SebasAL‌ I got no federal aid; the 20k was purely NYU scholarships…
Anyway…it all depends on your financial situation - can you pay back 26k, or can you ask your parents for some contributions?

do you know if it’s possible to get aid after the decisions have been released? I did the CSS form but my did didn’t do that noncustodial form so NYU Albert says “Award access not available.” please help

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes

Income Bracket: $250,000

Intended Major: Mathematics

State (if domestic applicant): Virginia

Country (if international applicant):

School Type: public

Ethnicity: African/Caribbean American

Gender: female

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM

Reflection: I wish I would have taken the standardized tests a lot sooner than I did (end of junior year-beginning of senior year) and studied for them more

Strengths: GPA, Class Rank, Teacher Recommendations, and Essays-really showed my interest in the fields of math and science; I put my heart into the why NYU supplement and I feel that the admission officers really got a good idea of my character and what I can add to the campus. I was a little worried about my essay though because it was straightforward and the writing style wasn’t very “creative”.

Weaknesses: Definitely standardized test scores

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: my character and potential was greatly exhibited through my application and recommendations

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: rejected from Columbia, accepted to Howard, VCU, and Saint Johns. I haven’t heard back from Georgetown, UVA, Georgia Tech, UCLA, UC Berkeley, George Mason, Virginia Tech, UMichigan, UChicago, Fordham, RIT, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Spelman, Duke, or VSU but it doesn’t matter because I will be withdrawing my applications and attending NYU.

General Comments: I am incredibly grateful and blessed beyond belief. NYU has been my dream school for a while and I’m really excited to be attending this fall! A lot of people told me not to waste my time applying because I had a “bad” SAT score but I love NYU and applied anyway to see what would happen. To all of you who are afraid to apply to your dream school because of a low SAT or ACT score: apply and see what happens! You never know what God has in store for you. Congrats to all of those who were accepted and if you were not accepted it just means there’s a better school in store for you!

I thought I would take the time to post my stats because reading other peoples’ stats on here was really helpful to me, but the posts on here aren’t very accurate in terms of who will get accepted/rejected as most of the people on College Confidential have near perfect standardized test scores. I can attest to the fact that schools absolutely have a holistic approach to admissions so follow your dreams no matter what your stats are (low gpa or scores)!!!

[] Strengths: Essay (ha) , Recommendation, Extra-curricular (if they saw it in a good light),
[

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted because of my essay HAHAHAHA
[
] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: top universities in my school, but haven’t heard back from other international universities

[/ul]General Comments:

Mainly posting this for the reference of internationals who are in the same sticky situation as I was when I was applying. I had trouble looking for answers to my questions when I was applying, because my guidance counselor doesn’t know a single thing about the process and I didn’t have any outside help. Willing to answer any questions for people

I honestly didn’t expect to pass an an international, mainly because I need close to full financial aid, my application doesn’t look extraordinary and my SAT score SUCKS. I’m also two years younger than most Americans if I go there. Might not accept the admission offer though unless I get a sponsor.

**Decision: Accepted to Gallatin **

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 710 CR, 610 M, 650 W (I sent in my A-Level predictions and asked the officers that consider that as my main standardized exam though)
ACT (breakdown): -
SAT II: -
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): My school doesn’t use the GPA system.
Weighted GPA (if available): -
Rank/percentile (if available): My school doesn’t have a ranking system.
AP (place score in parenthesis): -
IB (place score in parenthesis): -
Senior Year Course Load: A2 English Literature, A2 Economics, A2 History, and a critical thinking class.
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): International award for an essay

Subjective:
Extracurriculars/Leadership: Eco Club Chair, Fine Arts Journal Editor and Writer, Feminist Group Co-Founder and Executive, Executive of national youth organization, MUN Chair and Parliamentarian, Workshop Coordinator in a national conference, youngest member of LGBT activist group, Media team leader, Documentary Director, Director of school recycling program, and Co-Founder of anti-Trafficking group.
Job/Work Experience: Intern at leading animal conservation NGO, doing PR, marketing, and youth education.
Volunteer/Community service: About 100 hours in educational outreach.
Summer Activities: Community service and internship.
Essays: In my counsellor’s own words, “nothing’s perfect, but this is pretty damn close.”
Teacher Recommendation: I asked my English Literature teacher and my History teacher. I get along very well with my English teacher and I assume she gave me stellar recommendations. I am not close with my History teacher, but he runs MUN at my school so I think he was able to also give me a good recommendation. I didn’t do as well as expected in History last year, so I asked him to write my recommendation to explain the situation.
Counselor Rec: Excellent, I think! My counsellor and I get along well, and she is very impressed by my extracurriculars and academic interests.
Additional Rec: I asked my senior Fine Arts journal editor and Feminist Group coordinator, who is also an English teacher at my school. We are friends, and she wrote me an excellent recommendation.

Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: No
Intended Major: Human Rights and International Relations
State (if domestic applicant): -
Country (if international applicant): Thailand
School Type: Private international school
Ethnicity: Thai, Chinese, Burmese
Gender: Female
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I have impressive extracurriculars and leadership positions despite attending an academically-focussed school with very little extracurriculars. I would also say my bisexuality, but at NYU, that isn’t really a big deal haha. Though, I did explain that I was the only out person at my school, which partially caused my anxiety. I think my admissions officer emphasized with that.

Reflection
Strengths: Leadership, extracurriculars, essays, recommendations
Weaknesses: My grades last year, my mental breakdown last year
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: -
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: -

General Comments: If you had a mental illness that brought your grades down, please do not be discouraged! My depression and anxiety really brought down my grades last year, but I explained my situation to my teachers and my admissions counsellors, and they understood.

And please don’t be discouraged if your school has a poor extracurricular program! You can always start your own clubs and do things outside of school, like I did! Doing that has been far more rewarding for me than simply making do with what my school offers.

Update:

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I just found out that I got into Beloit College with a Presidential Scholarship.

I also got accepted to Earlham College, but I am declining all other offers and withdrawing my other applications as part of my ED agreement for NYU.
