Official October 21, 2006 PSAT Discussion

What did u guys get for the question that asked according to the article, what would make astrophysicists very happy?

If I remember correctly, the passage stated "swift yet peaceful" rather than "swift and peaceful." If so, the conjunction "yet" would imply a contrast within the excerpt itself, and not between the excerpt and the remainder of the paragraph. Does anyone remember which conjunction was used?

lol dandelion, astrophysicians

:-) You crack me up!

mnoaaa, that one was they would be happy if they didnt have that problem to deal with or something...

It would make them happy if people didn't publish wrong things about stars.

Indian. DO you mean the choice about the song?

if only stars didn't twinkle...

13 pages within a 24 hours period...

naidu, where did you read that in the passage? i didnt put that...

no, mnoaaa, i put the one where they were talking about how they wished that stars didnt twinkle, b/c it makes their work much harder

So far, I have 1-2 wrong and I am not even sure about those, so hopefully the curve on the CR is better than last years' cause apparently this years' was harder

I've got some studying to do junior year then.

read what?

Did anyone else here take the PSAT last year? Comparisons? I think the math was about the same, the writing about the same, and the reading a little harder this year. After all, when was the last time you heard someone say stopgap (other than on this message board)?

i dont get this, how did i seem to do the best in CR... I SUCK AT CR

dude lobgent, i dont even remember the psat from last year... the critical was a bit easier tho...

I didn't take it last year, I was in India for that Week only

did anyone get a sentence completion, something about courted their displeasure?

ahh i can't even remember. i put court though.

wait, you were in india in the middle of october??

thats awesome!

This question seems to have conflicting answers amongst CCers. Want to vote? or give explanations as to why you chose the answer you did?

b.courted/accomplished

lydia423: 1. A

Also, anyone care to give me the letter answer to the one on the astrophysicists in the writing section? I put A (as is).

.:Indian:. = B

I put C for the astrophysicists, cant remember what it was tho

(x+y)(x^2 - y^2) = 0

Can someone explain this one? I got x=-y, because (-y+y)=0 and (-y^2-y^2)=0. Therefore, it works in both sets of parentheses, where x^2=y^2 doesnt set (x+y) to 0 in all cases(2^2=2^2, (2+2)?0) but it seems like you only need one set of parentheses to equal 0 anyway for the expression to be equal to 0...
