Official October 21, 2006 PSAT Discussion

I'm can't remember all the questions but...

A circle with a sqaure and its radius is 8:
the area is 32

3rd sunday:
21st

size of the line (with the 2 isoceles triangles):
17

Diameter of circle whose area is: pie over 16
1/2 or .25

That's all I can remember

I had a lot of trouble with the grammar section; there were many problems that I thought was no error, but I wasn't sure.

Does anyone know the answer to the Food and Drug Administration checking drugs problem or the Charlotte Bronte painting one?

i think #2, the charlotte bronte was no error.

did anyone put "wry" for the tone of the parenthetical statements?

i got the "stopgap" one right. someone told me she put portent :(

i hope i got 240. don't you?

oh yeah, did you guys get 80 green two-door cars with alloy rims?

I put no error on the FDA one. I was unsure if it was D. It went something like "before they (d)are on the general market" or something.

I put D for the Charlotte Bronte painting. It was something like "Charlotte Bronte wrote as well as painted, but she is more recognized as an author (d)than as a painter."

What did you guys put for #20 on writing. It was something like "Meteorites are very interesting to astrophysicists, since they provide them information on solar system formation." All the choices used the vague pronouns "they" and "them", so I put the answer that used "who". But the answer that had "who" was weirdly worded, so I'm not sure. -.-

And yes, it was 80.

I did Mari.

Also, did anyone find that the first critical reading section was kinda hard, but the rest was ridiculously easy? The only other part that made me really think was like the last four questions in the writing section.

I put surly for the parenthetical statements but I'm 99% sure that's wrong, I was about to change it up but didn't get a chance.

i got 65 :(

the fda one had the error, it should've been were.

the 2nd critical reading section was the only one i think i might have messed up. i did the sentence completions too slowly and rushed reading

The surly one was wry I'm pretty sure. I put surly, but then looked up both words when I got home, and now I think its wry.

For the stopgap one, I put stop gap.

The meteorites one I put the one using the "who".

The FDA and Charlotte Bronte, I put no error for FDA and as well as for Charlotte Bronte, which was a bad idea looking back on it now. But whatebever.

For the passage about the nature hikes, what did you put as the tone of the two? I put Humor vs earnest.

for the Charlotte Bronte one, I figured it would make more sense if "as well as" was changed to "as much as"... but now others have told me that they left it as it was.

howd you guys get 80?

The first tone question was wry. The second was humorous vs earnest.

What did you guys put for the atmosphere of the Wimbledon stadium one. I put D because it was comparing an atmosphere to a stadium.

Does anyone know how the FDA question was worded?

100 red cars
120 4 door cars
140 alloy wheels

This means that there are at most, 100 green cars, 80 2 door cars, and 140 alloy wheel cars. The minimum value among those is 80.

Howd you get 80 out of the cars?
There were 200 cars, 50% were red, so thats 100
60% and 70% were the other precentages.

I put surly too, and here are the definitions of wry and surly (the other first three choices weren't right, I think..)

wry: devious in course or purpose; misdirected. ;;distorted or perverted, as in meaning.

surly: churlishly rude or bad-tempered;; unfriendly or hostile; menacing; irritable.

I dont know. I guess surly is correct?

and... the 21st for the sunday question? I think i got the 22nd... but then again, i forgot.... do we get a full score report? .. as in ... will we find out which questions we got wrong on the PSAT?

wry:
dry; humorously sarcastic or mocking; "dry humor"; "an ironic remark often conveys an intended meaning obliquely"; "an ironic novel"; "an ironical smile"; "with a wry Scottish wit"

from google dictionary

its wry, don't feel bad I put surly too b/c i kept thinking of the quote:

"something is awry" or something like that.

i also got 80

no, but the parenthical citations was commenting on how the person lacked ability ("nil to none") or something like that... that wasn't sarcastic, that was rude, right? haha

oh yeah, and what was the PURPOSE of the twinkle twinkle little star passage? was it to tell people of how astronomers solved problems or something?
