Chinaman, YAY!!!!! Congratulations!!!

To echo what DigMedia said about the kids who were deferred...I agree. Son's Penn decision came kind of early in the overall ED/EA round and we I don't think he or I realized how LUCKY he was until recently. I used the word lucky because what he's now seeing happen to his friends makes his admission all the more amazing. EVERY one of his friends has been deferred. Yes, white AND black. He has several black friends who applied to HYP. One friend's deferral (Harvard) is especially surprising because this kids was mid 1500s on SAT, straights As.....and just smart as heck. The others were high 1400s, low 1500s to Y&P....all deferred. Prior to this, I wasn't sure what to think of the argument about black kids getting in.....especially those from privileged backgrounds. Now, I don't believe it. Son does have one black friend who made it into Columbia. Parents are teachers.....nothing elite, no wealth.

Son is feeling LUCKY right about now.....while all around him his friends are feeling huge disappointments. So for everyone who was falling for the myths about the black kids getting in.....don't believe the "HYP"e!!

CONGRATS to Chinaman's son! I am not surprised because everything you have shared about him reveals that he is a very special young man who has a promising future. I know how proud you are of him and this is the icing on the cake! Very happy for your family how it has all turned out for your son.
Susan

Chinaman, is your son going to go to Africa first?

Yes he wants to go, but a problem exist as he applied for research while as an udergard. Both departments have accepted his proposals and he will be paid for it. So now we are waiting for fin aid pacakges. My son has a great desire to work in the African countries ravaged by AIDS, thus he wants to volunteer work if colleges let him matricaute a year later. Since it makes him happy, I will satndby his decisions. If his fin aid pacakages comes allright and we both are happy with it, he may withdraw from other schools.

Congratulations to all. What a list!

Oh, the paid research sounds great! I hope the aid package is agreeable with you. Does Yale not show you the aid package online along with the decision? Guess not. Sounds like Africa might have to wait a bit. I don't see their AIDS problem improving much anytime soon. So, your son will still be needed when he's done at Yale. Doesn't that sound great? "when he's done at Yale"....He's going to YALE!

Chinaman:

My heartfelt congratulations! I was very confident he would get into Yale as he is such an accomplished young man. I hope the financial aid package comes up trump for you and your son.

Chinaman:

I was looking for a separate post about your son, and found out here that he got accepted EA to Yale. Congratualtions. Sounds like he has some wonderful opportunities ahead of him.

I believe that the EA financial aid package for Yale will come on April 1 when the regular decisions come out. Please don't let yourself get bogged down by the money issue. I beleive that the way will be made and the package will be affordable to you and your family. If you can get a hold of Candi she may have posted on the yale board and sometimes comes back to check in on us (currently a freshman at Yale who had a "0" EFC), maybe she can give you some insight on the Financial aid package.

Congrats to Chinaman and family!

My daughter was accepted ED to Northwestern. I'm mostly a lurker here, but it seems as if I know many of you from your posts. Congratulations to all of you!!! I'm thrilled that your children's hard work and dedication have been rewarded. Well done!

I have to say that it was an amazing piece of good fortune that I stumbled onto this website during the summer. My daughter had always wanted to go to Northwestern, but the admission horror stories that we had been hearing had convinced her that she shouldn't even apply. The wisdom, experience, optimism (yes--lots of that), and most importantly encouragement that she received here changed our thinking. CC was truly life-changing for my daughter. To me, it's the perfect example of the power of the electronic community.

Well, enough gushing. All of you have another reason to celebrate during the holidays. Best of luck to your children in the future!

Suzy:

I'm very happy to hear the good news. As my kids would say, Northwestern is an awesome school!

Congrats Suzy (and welcome out of lurking!). This board is such a wealth of knowledge. I can only imagine how much it has helped kids and parents with a very complicated and intense process. And major congrats to Chinaman and son. I have always appreciated your posts because they are so sincere. Wow, reading this thread is inspiring. If only we could have a big party somewhere when all is decided and meet in real life!

Suzy, welcome to the board. Your D will LOVE Northwestern.

Son got into Wesleyan ED. Is very happy and relieved. So am I!

Chinaman--congratulations! I too have appreciated the sincerity of your posts. And your son sounds like he is going to make great contributions wherever he goes!

Suzy--Good for your daughter for gaining the confidence to apply! What a great outcome!

Cedronella--congrats! as i told mom55, my D loved her experience there, and I'm sure your S will too!
