Official Princeton University Class of 2016 Results

How can you say academics isn’t a part of your life and then get a 3.86 GPA. I have to sweat my ass off 10 hours a night to pull off a 3.8 UW… and no one from my school’s done more than that.

Your comment on “kicking ass” if anyone sent a report from a 5000 dollar summer camp is also a bit disturbing. It’s a good thing I’m behind a computer screen, but what’s a man to do if paid summer camps are some of the only opportunities?

Decision: Deferred

Summer Activities:
Stanford EPGY Summer Institutes: Number Theory (11–Strong Rec. from Advisor)–really liked it as well; didn’t go there because “Mommy told me”
*Mentioned passion for travelling, importance of getting together with family–do not know significance Princeton attaches to these; frankly, for me, summer’s a time to chill

Others:
International Student: Japan
Nationality: Indian
School Type: small, religious school following the California Standards
Income: 100000<I<150000; I=income

Why Deferred?
-Strong intl. candidate pool? ECs, potentially. Aid–my Guidance Counselor keeps telling me?
I don’t know what else to say, except I keep alternating between royally ***ed and apathetic… oh, and keep promising to slack off. It seems academics has no value, folks.

Thus concludes dasadhikarik’s rant on college admissions. Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to you all.

To those deferred - ok, they didn’t reject you guys outright. You still have a chance. At the end of the day, they had only so many spots. It is clear that they did want to hold on to you guys. One thing to keep in mind in your essays - How will you contribute to the Princeton community? At the end of the day, there are say 4 with 2300+ and leadership, but then someone with that and something the college wants (say a top band member, one girl from my school was all that and ranked in the top 10 state swim, one an accomplished tap dancer). How are YOU going to enhance the community? At the end of the day, that person with a 2200 and maybe just 3 APs instead of the 8+ APs will be chosen. If you are a swimmer, go varsity swim, if you are good in a musical instrument, you better have done some orchestra/band. Another girl I know raised tons of money for her community cause giving her great recommendations. You NEED to stand out. Good luck. Anyway, if it is not Princeton, you will surely get in to one of the top places and you will be successful no matter what.

Check this out http://www.princeton.edu/admission/whatsdistinctive/studentprofiles/_all_students/</a> (almost everyone had done something out of the norm, BEFORE getting admitted)

yeah all of that is true, i definitely could have written more intriguing essays. but at least i still have a chance.

worst part for me? if i manage to get it i will most likely walk-on to the varsity field hockey team. i didn’t start playing the sport until my junior year so i only started recruiting stuff after my senior year (was all-league, all-state finalist, team mvp). princeton already has their fhockey class filled that they can support in admissions by the time i contact them, but the coach tells me i can probably get in academically so to not worry about it and then just walk-on… i do have the athletics that they want the admissions department just doesn’t know it

[] Teacher Recommendation: AP English Teacher seemed to really like me (my junior friends tell me that she still tells stories about me); Chemistry/AP Chemistry Teacher (2 years) liked me and detailed how for me, learning is more than in the classroom, as I like to experience things I think both were very good, but I’ll never really know

[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: No results yet.

[/ul]General Comments: Still pretty upset over it. Princeton has been my dream for a while now…I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. My confidence has been shaken quite a bit and I have no idea where I’ll get in, but I do believe that wherever it is is where I’m meant to be! Congratulations to all of you who were accepted! From what I’ve read, you guys deserved it  And for those of you who were deferred, chin up! It could be worse; you still have a chance! Best of luck in the regular pool! We all have to trust that we’ll “end up where we’re supposed to be” (I haven’t heard that one 1,000,000 times).

Oh my Gawd you are amazing! I can’t believe you didn’t get in! You totally deserved a freaking acceptance! But don’t worry there are a lot of amazing colleges out there and you will definitely go somewhere awesome. Good luck!

How did you not get deferred, at the worst? Your rejection is very shocking to me.

Reflection
[li] Strengths: Essays, variety and level of achievements in ECs, interview[/li][] Weaknesses: SAT (especially CR)
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I must’ve impressed adcom with my essays that exactly reflect me as an individual. Maybe also because of my nationality and my contributions to my interests (autism, chess, business/finance)
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: didn’t apply anywhere else (Princeton SCEA)
General Comments: glad they didn’t penalize me for the less than impressive SAT scores.

This is funny. You “impressed adcom with your essays?” Yes, but your second point is MUCH more important. A member of the national chess team and junior chess champion? Best student company? Developed a new autism therapy? I hope you never had any doubts as to your acceptance.

@latinisfun: my essays were primarily about chess, my entrepreneurship experience, and autism.

What I’m saying is: I’m sure your essays helped, but I’m sure you didn’t need stellar essays  Take it as a compliment.
